Sorry about the screenshot. I got it from Cruisemapper. Sure wish I could fix that typo in the title 🫢

Hi all. I thought I had my mind made up about which cabin I want for our Alaska cruise on Zaandam in June 2024 but I see some icon right outside the cabin I'm interested in (6223). Please take a look at the deck plan attached. Does anyone know what that plus mark looking thing indicates? There is nothing on the legend that matches that. Thanks for any info you have.

I'm trying to interpret the deck plan for deck 6 on Zaandam. Two questions... is the aft deck area available via stairs from decks above and below it? Also, I can't tell if there are doors leading from the corridor to aft deck. They show a solid line so I'm not sure if there are doors.
We're considering cabin B6223 for an Alaska cruise in June 2024 hoping that the aft deck won't be too busy with other passengers. Any insight would be appreciated!

I've heard the area is called the "potato patch" due to the rough seas. I'm not super sensitive to sea sickness but if it's really bad I will pick a cruise out of Seattle. Thing is, I can drive to San Francisco and would need to fly if we go out of Seattle.

Thank you everyone!

I haven't been able to find a way to narrow down a search to only the forum I'm in. Maybe it's because I use a tablet, so get the mobile version of the website. I want to be able to search just the HAL forum. Help?

It's our first LRBC. Can't wait. If I spot that black and pink bubba mug I'll introduce myself!

We're going on a full ship charter for a Blues Cruise so this cruise will be really different. We can wear shorts in the mdr, there is live blues music on all stages between 11:00 am to 2:00 am+ and the last day is pajama day so we don't need to worry about packing our clothes that evening. Yes, I'll be carrying cocktails everywhere. Can't wait!

Hi all. I see that I can order a bottle of liquor to be delivered to my stateroom. Am I allowed to mix a drink and take it out of the stateroom or does it have to be consumed in the room? Also, do you know if they provide glasses with the bottle or do I need to use the stateroom tumbler?

Crew News thanks for sharing the bar menus and wine offerings. Will definitely be making a trip to Total Wine and More before we board our ship in Fort Lauderdale. I don't mind paying the corkage fee to drink wine I know that I like.

Even worse than forgetting to check out - I couldn't find my cart!

Thank you. The website said "added to cart" for both excursions but they didn't show up on my itinerary so I called and they were not booked. I booked them on the phone and now I see them on my itinerary. Thank you so much. I would have been really disappointed if I'd thought I had them booked and they ended up getting sold out!

I think I prebooked 2 shore excursions and added myself to the wait list for another. I didn't receive an email confirming - should I have? I can't find a place on the website to see if they've been booked. Can someone point me to where I can find that info?
TIA

Thank you. As you said there is very little information on this port

Thanks for all the good tips!

Trying to figure out if one of the beverage packages would be beneficial to me. Can someone who has recently cruised with Holland America tell me how much a single beer is if ordered at a bar?

On my Android the magnifying glass searches the whole site. Isn't it possible to search within a forum using a tablet?

We've decided to drop our luggage at the port on embarkation day before returning our rental car so we don't have to carry it on the shuttle. We are not trying to board early so boarding should already be taking place.
My question is - should one of us stay with the luggage while the other returns the car? Will the Porter's take it immediately and secure it somewhere or does someone need to keep an eye on it?
If the advice is to stay with the luggage are there benches or something to sit on?
Thanks for your advice.

If you do a search, you will see several very recent discussions on this exact topic....
Thank you for your reply. Is there a way to search just the forum you're on? Every time I've tried a search on this new version of the CC website it returns results from the whole site making it tedious if not impossible to slog through all of the results especially if the search term is fairly generic. No sarcasm here, just hoping you know something I don't. 😊

I've read advice that says to bring your prescription medication in the prescription bottles they came in. Between my husband and I that would be 12 bottles - rather bulky, especially for a carry on.
We usually put our prescription meds in one of those compartmentalized organizers - both when we travel and at home.
Looking to hear opinions on bringing the bottles.
Thanks!

Thanks to all. It sounds like a compact poncho is the way to go. I'll check my CVS.

Good information!
Cruiser Bruce - we will be driving to visit family so we will need a car. I didn't know there is a Florida Departures board, thanks for that info.
iancal - you're right. I forgot about the extra tax they charge when renting at an airport.
BSinPNS - picking up at the airport and dropping off at the port sounds ideal even though we'd have to pay the airport tax. Thanks for the tip about dropping off the non-carry-on luggage first! Smart!

Hi all. We will be on a 10 day partial panama canal transit cruise in January. Many of the excursions say to bring "rain gear". Is that basically a poncho or something that provides more coverage?
Some of the posts I've read on here say the ships sell ponchos - opinions on whether to bring one or buy one on the ship? I'd probably have to buy one online - can't think of any place local that would sell them.
Thanks for your thoughts.

We will be flying into Fort Lauderdale two days early and renting a car. I'm looking for opinions about whether it would be better to: A) pick up our rental car at the airport, return it there and take a taxi to the port, or ,B) take a taxi to the port when we arrive in Fort Lauderdale, pick up a car at the port and drop it off when we go to the port on embarkation day. It's six of one, half dozen of the other, but embarkation day can be stressful for me so I'm wondering if it might be better to return the car to the port rather than the airport - no taxi ride would be required on that day.
Opinions?
Thanks!
Karen
