  1. I booked an obstructed ocean view cabin (10 days before sailing). Four days later we got an invitation to bid on a balcony for a suggested price of $300 per person and a mini suite for a suggested price of $500 per person. This is our first NCL cruise (have sailed 40ish times with other lines. We bid 165 per person for the balcony and 220 per person for the mini suite. We were notified 2 hours later that our balcony bid was accepted. We are very happy with that. It is still 1100.00 less total than what we would have paid at full price.

  2. I saw the dinner menu online.

How is Coastal Kitchens for breakfast and lunch? What kind of food?

Is Coastal Kitchens noticeable better than other venues by way of food or service or ambience? Thanks

We thought the food, service and ambience was wonderful in Coastal Kitchen. The room is smaller than the other dining rooms and so the noise level is not as bad as other venues. I thought the meals were on pare with Chops and much better than at Chic and American Icon.

  3. Just off of Dec 1 sailing. My husband and I did not find the casino as smoky as on other RCCL ships. There were plenty of people smoking, but think they must have fixed the ventilation problem. That being said, the last two nights were extra crowded and the smoke was worse.

  4. We had DO 6290. We had a larger balcony on a slant and was very deep. Sitting on the deck chair, the lifeboat started about 12 inches below the railing. Sitting I could see the ocean looking straight ahead. We saw an E1 balcony and it was very small. A DO in my opinion would be a much better option. No noise from the lifeboat, but there was a strange noise at night coming for somewhere and in addition to minor creaking.

  5. Your story is so sad. RCCL robbed you of your vacation. I am not sure how you can be jerked around for 6 hours of a short 2 day cruise. RCCL owes you a full refund for the five of you. Your ordeal not only effected you, but you siblings as well. When you write to the powers that be (and I hope you do), I would put in writing exactly what I expect for compensation. This was wrong. When I sail on Monday and if something like that happens I will stand at guest services until the hotel manager arrives and escorts me to my cabin. Please let us know if you get any resolution to this.

  6. Wine drinker here....if I order the beer and wine package what is the maximum dollar amount for a glass of wine ...$8, $10, or $12? I like Conundrum so if I order a glass of that will it be covered under the beer and wine package or am I going to be charged extra?

Conundrum is $15 per glass on Quantum. That is a lot of extra money to pay on each glass.

  7. We have cabin 6290 on the Quantum, which is listed as 50% on the Anthem. I don't know if it is the same on the Q. It has a larger balcony because it is on the side of the hump. I would love to see a photo of this balcony.

I have room 6290 also. I am sailing Dec 1. If you are sailing after me, I will post a pic.

  8. Wonderful review.

Did you know you could ask for an egg crate to put on the sofa bed, it could make a huge difference.

I would highly recommend the seeing the Christmas Show at Radio City Music Hall while in New York. I saw it years ago and it was just fantastic.

If you go on to a web site Groupon.com you get buy half price tickets to some theater performances as well as discounts on dining and other activities.

  9. [

Low point so far was Grande. We felt the venue was a glorified MDR with subpar food quality. Lobster bisque was bad and the tiny shrimp in the "jumbo prawn cocktail" appetizer may have gotten even smaller.

Thanks for your taking time to tell us about your cruise. Was the dress code enforced in the Grande?? My husband does not want to wear a jacket, so I was wondering if any men just wore a shirt and tie (and pants of course)?

  10. Hi guys,

I'm new to Royal and boarding Splendour on Saturday.

I quite like the odd flutter in the casino, and when I sailed with Cunard you could just stick your Sea Pass into the slots or hand it over to a cashier and they'd charge USD to the account (with no additional charges).

My first time with Celebrity I realised they didn't do this and I was unprepared. I was unwilling to pay their fees for cash withdrawals so I didn't bother.

I assume Royal is the same as Celebrity? It bugs me having to get USD at a crappy exchange rate in the UK when I have a card that gives me perfect exchange rates on foreign currency - useless though as there will be no regular ATMs on board!!

    SUPER EXCITED!

Actually there are ATM's on board in the casino. I just let my bank know the amounts I would be withdrawing each day. I have free ATM withdrawals from my bank, so no fee to do this. I hate to carry a lot of cash on a trip. Check with your bank in advance as mine has a $765 limit each day.

  11. I will also be on 3 night and 2 night samplers. Will be taking tons of pictures and videos. Will be saving and scanning compasses too.

Will you please check to see if the Diamond Plus coupon for buy one get one free for the first night can be used to dine in Wonderland.

Second question, will Diamond plus members be allowed in the concierge lounge (don't know if they are making changes to the policy on the Quantum.

    Thanks.

  12. A few years ago my sister went to DI to trade in a 2ct diamond tennis bracelet for a 5ct bracelet. She bought the bracelet at DI a few years prior. The cost to upgrade was $4,000.

We decided to go to Cardows to see what the new bracelet would cost there and the price for a new one was $4200. We had shopped at Cardows in the past and have always gotten a great deal.

My sister bought the bracelet at Cardows and gave her daughter her old bracelet for Christmas.

So be sure to know your prices before you upgrade. What DI was actually giving her was $200 for her old bracelet.

Both bracelets had the same clarity, cut and color.

  13. I am so excited about DD. We are doing an 11 night on Quantum in December and can't wait to try all of the different options. We still booked 5 nights in specialty restaurants. We live in rural Maine where there are not a lot of great places to eat.

We also love a table for two. We socialize in the concierge lounge, but love to just enjoy dining alone.

I just wished that RCCL offered the same menu from Grande in an informal setting as well. I love the entree's from that menu, but do not want to get all dressed up. :)
