  1. I loved my Alaska cruise...soo beautiful.

We booked an outside cabin, not the balcony stateroom when we went.

Although it was too cold to use a balcony on our trip I found myself still wishing we had a balcony.

On the other hand, it did save us a little money.

    Enjoy your trip...we loved it!

  2. Thank you to all who have posted their feedback on this situation. It has actually helped me decompress from the incident and have some clarity on the event. I am actually a pediatric nurse and have taken numerous classes in cpr and other life saving responses. Still, my actions were as a bystander and first responder.

To the last post...even knowing the new ratios I found myself falling back on 15:2 ration and confess to opening the airway first and giving breaths. I was focused on giving deep compressions and attempting 100 compressions per minute.

Sunshine...Yup! I reverted back to the same 15/2 ratio as well at my work...it has worked for many for years.

You are a hero in my eyes and I know

others feel the same way, especially the woman's family!

  3. I am an ortho-trauma nurse and I gave CPR to my neighbor years ago, and it did take about 15 minutes for the EMT's to get to his home to take over. I was exhausted and my hands were bruised for a few days. It is really hard work to do CPR properly, especially by yourself.

    Kudos to the OP...!!!

BTW, my last CPR update called for chest compressions first, at a 30 to 2 breaths ratio, or at least, that is what I was trained for in my community. Things change every few years..so this may not be accurate at present.

  4. There is also a 15% tip applied as well.

    The last time we sailed we brought 2 extra bottles of wine on board. We left it in our luggage. When we unpacked, we found a card in our luggage that said;

'For your information, your luggage was inspected due to suspected alcoholic contents. At this stage, no items were removed; however, you may be contacted by an employee at a future point if the alcohol levels in your check-in luggage combined with your hand-carry luggage exceed the allowed limits.'

  5. Some of the Col.'s topics were, Gulf War Intelligence Operations, Eisenhower and the Cold War Intelligence Operations, The U2 Spy Plane Series, The SR 71 Supersonic Spy Plane, Intelligence Aspects of the Attack at Pearl Harbor, Covert Military and CIA Operations in Vietnam and others....

He centered on the intelligence gathering mostly but he had a wealth of information on military history as well.

  6. Being on deck 9 or 10 in the center is good....and I think being on the Alaska cruise is a good cruise to start with. When you are looking over the water, keep the eyes moving and look at the horizon.

Some people can desensitize to sea sickness.

I have been sea sick on a fishing boat with 4-5 foot waves but never on a ship. I have sailed in moderate seas, but nothing worse than that.

You may want to get the patch by your dr, but keep in mind some people get side effects from them also.

I cannot wear the patch, it makes me dizzy.

Let us know how the cruise goes for you!

  7. One of my favorite parts of the ship is the aft up on level 14, where I can view the wake....love that area.

I think Princess offers decent dining options...we love the Vines and the International Café. At the Vines, providing you buy a drink, you can have sushi and tapas. The International Café offers fresh pastries in the morning, sandwiches and salads for lunch and later on. At around 3:30, fresh baked cookies are given to the passengers with milk...nice touch!

I think the entertainment is good,,,,my only complaint is that the DJ starts so late for me. I can't stay up past 10 waiting for more current music to dance to. But, if you like the classic or ballroom dancing, there is plenty of that offered earlier.

My stateroom has always been very quiet so I usually sleep very well. I love the rocking of the ship....the last cruse we got an upgrade but we were under the walk way of the pool and eating area, so we heard chairs moving all day long and sometimes at 3am. So, I have learned the hard way that upgrades is not always a good thing.

I hope you enjoy your trip!

  8. My one and only cruise on CB last year was also the worst Princess cruise I had taken, with most staff not their usual smiling self, food not quite up to par etc. BUT other people I know on the cruise thought it was all good.

I also had a not so great cruise on the Golden this spring, but all my other experiences with Princess were really enjoyable.

  9. We just recently sailed on the Golden this April and the ship is beautiful.

The wear was noticed in our room. The carpeting was quite stained(perhaps coffee spills), the balcony door wouldn't lock, even after it was supposedly fixed. And we had a major squeak somewhere within our walls by the closet when the seas were moderate. It was loud enough that I had to buy ear plugs. The drain in the shower was slow to drain so you had to take a fairly quick shower.

We did notice a board under our mattress for support, and the pillows were comfortable.

I also noticed quite a few public chairs and sofas that lacked cushion.

Other than that, the ship was great!

  10. Not everyone gets to see the summit of Mt McKinley.....however, it was such a clear day that we were able to see it when we were at the lodge..

    what an amazing sight.

We were disappointed with the trip into the 'interior' of the park. The road was well travelled and it seemed as though everyone else travelled the same road.

We did see one elk, but so far away that we couldn't see it without binoculars.

We did have a great trip in Talkeetna...we did a river trip and saw some wildlife....we are from the upper Midwest so we are kinda spoiled with the wildlife.....but, that trip was really nice.

  11. I think the price is worth the experience....it is more than a meal...it is an experience!

One of the courses was lobster risotto....amazing!

We learned so much from the chef...and the desserts were out of this world!!

  12. Its all the unwritten rules of who to tip and who not to tip. If this is the case should we tip the check in agent so we can get on the ship, the captain so he does not sail to close to an island, the chef so he doesnt give us food poisoning. How about the porter so he doesnt trash our luggage, oh wait, we have to do that already. Very corrupt sytem they have going there.

Or , how about the nurse who goes above her line of duty for you, or the stewardess?....we could go on and on.

At the pier, I tip extra out of fear.

  13. . The flight may seem a bit daunting, but it's not so bad actually, and I'd do it again in a heartbeat for a chance to spend some time in FP. In fact, if I were to do it again, I would choose a cruise that stayed in French Polynesia, as it was far more enjoyable - to me - than Hawaii. Hope that helps with your decision. Best of luck, and happy cruising. :)

OH my! I forgot about the airplane ride to Tahiti itself. We took it from LA and as soon as we got on the airplane I saw the most beautiful women ever. The service was wonderful...we got the best meal and the stewardesses kept wanting to give us champagne!

8 hours later we were in Tahiti....
