  1. A RESCUE is a different story. If there was a search to save someone's life of course as many people as possible should be watching, scanning & searching!

But the RETRIEVAL of a dead body is completely different. I honestly would try and imagine the parents and family of the deceased person were present and act accordingly (i.e. I would excuse myself in respect.)

We did not think that she was alive since people do not normally survive. But I was still sending out positive thoughts hoping it was going to be ok. My point was though that there was no disrespect or anything negative meant by watching.

  2. Why would anyone watch something like this? I would have made sure I was otherwise occupied not so much to protect myself - but out of sheer respect for the deceased. Frankly, I have no sympathy for gawkers who intentionally watched the retrieval and then needed counseling to deal with it.

My thoughts and prayers are with this lost soul and his family & loved ones during this sad time.

Really? When I was on the Epuc in March there was a lady that went overboard. The rescue was right outside my balcony. I did not intentionally go to see it as I had just gotten back to my cabin. But once I realized what was happening I stayed. It wasn't out of morbid curiosity but more of just praying that the person was found safely. Thankfully in my case she was. We were not the only ones on our balcony. Everyone that was there was speaking whispers and you could here everyone just hoping it would be successful. When they did return with her a huge cheer went up. None of that was disrespectful in the least.

  3. We are doing the ziplines with them and I hate heights! But my husband and kids are really looking forward to it so I'm taking one for the team. I'm excited to see the sloths. Haha. That will be awesome.

Thanks for the review. We are on the Getaway in a couple weeks.

  4. Thanks, good job.

Particularly interesting to see the med charges listed like that.

Makes the case for Trip Insurance ! I've met people on cruises who didn't even know Medicare doesn't cover trips outside the US.

Yikes. I generally know what to expect for medical costs in the US so I don't think this is off base. As far as insurance goes I'm more worried about medical evacuation than anything else. That's crazy money.

  5. That's the first time I've seen the charges posted for the med services - which is funny, since I've ended up there twice with family members (on 2 different cruises.) It's amazing to see what all they can do (and what they charge for it.)

Sorry your cruise was so chaotic - that travel path was a hoot.

That's why I took the pictures. It was weird that it was just out there. I think the captain initially attempted to find calmer waters and just gave up!

  6. Overview:

This was my first cruise with NCL. Nothing went the way it was supposed to. We did still have a good time but it was not as relaxing as I had hoped. I don't care that my food wasn't awesome. I figure that it just stopped me from overeating so much! Lol My friend loved all of her food so I probably just had bad luck. I'm going on the Getaway in July with my family so I will see how that goes. I was going to buy 2 future cruise certificates but didn't just due to the chaos. If all goes well in July I probably will.

Hope this helps people doing research!

  7. The day we were to disembark we headed up to the buffet. It was gray and rainy. The ship was a little late getting in but not horribly so. The buffet was ok. I got my coffee which was all I really needed anyway.

We grabbed our stuff and headed to self disembark. It was well organized and crowded. Everyone was quiet and respectful. Before we knew it we were off and waiting for our uber.

The next 3 days were spent in Orlando. The first day we just relaxed. The next day we went to Epcot and saw all the flowers. The last day we went to Disney Springs. So in short we entertained ourselves.

Finally it is time to go home! We were at the terminal and they announce our flight is delayed by 20 minutes due to a maintenance concern. Ok. No big deal. About 20 minutes later we get a text saying that our flight is delayed 2 hours! Really?? Ugh. They hadn't made an announcement in the terminal yet.

So off to the counter we go. Behind us there were some people complaining about being delayed 3 hours. We had to laugh because it had been 3 days for us.

In the end we flew into Rochester and our loving husbands picked us up and took us across the state to Albany where my car was. It was a long day but we were finally home!c8d07ebe39a9d70a7440ab098ed45f5d.jpg4ff986c6236d92ab12df3e56398d3aa1.jpg

  8. Then we got to the room and saw them dropping the rescue boat to get the lady that fell over board. At the time we assumed that it was a spring breaker. Now my understanding is it was a lady in her 50s. Either way it really sucked to watch. We knew that normally people that fall overboard are not rescued alive and thinking that a young girl fell was horrible. Not that it's easier if it's an older lady but I have teenagers. I know they are not known for their critical thinking skills.

Anyway there were quite a few people watching from the balcony. It was very quiet and people were whispering to each other and you could hear everyone just hoping that the person was ok. Once the captain announced she was onboard and in medical a big cheer went up. We breathed a sigh of relief and went to bed.

  9. Since we were not going to go home we ended back at Maltings because I wanted more Old Fashions.

Around 10 pm we wandered back to our room. On the way we noticed they have a list of charges outside of medical. I work in the medical field so I took some pictures. I thought I was weird to see them posted like that. edd9c68fcfdb179a67b842f0be9ea0be.jpg6bf5e4a2e57bf553c27c7433f59ad590.jpge97450ee6f8ab9e043ad1fd8fcb5aeb1.jpg5c9d5d7bf0199bb41c2eb30d6821873c.jpg41f270f1884ff5d1459b487a512ce4f1.jpgae415f0a7a571ca63223f8287521caf5.jpg

  10. This is were our trip goes sideways. We had turned our phones on in Nassau so we could check in with our families. We had headed back to the ship early and were sitting out on the deck and our phones both pinged with texts. Our flights the following afternoon were cancelled due to another snow storm. Crap.

We tried to book new flights on the app but they were going rapidly. We ended up on separate flights on 2 different days. So then I called Southwest to try to fix it. I didn't realize you can't call an 800 number outside of the US. Sooo.. that wasted time. Then I get a lady on the phone that sounded like she was Indian. I normally do not have a problem understanding but she spoke way too quick and would not listen to me. After 5 minutes she finally stopped and told me should couldn't even help us rebook our flights!

So another phone call and sitting on hold for what seemed like forever. I think it was at least 5 minutes. We got a very nice guy on the phone and he was very helpful. BUT the only flights he could get us were on Saturday when we were supposed to go home on Wednesday.

Now a whole different panic. We have to find a hotel to stay at that is fairly cheap for 3 days. My friend is a Disney lover but they were all booked. It took us about 3 hours to completely get it all settles and then it was time to sail away. 060c078681a7a702b7d8a7d1310c01f4.jpg2dcda59153b0157b8f658432a7d2a85d.jpgbea0cfbe095568801f2850c7829d1eb6.jpg

  11. The following day we were supposed to go to Nassau. Again there waves were too much for the ship to get into port. We missed it again. The following night we met a young couple that was supposed to get married that day. Luckily they were able to do it the following day when we did actually make it. d6f3bc1e1b10620bfe433f4a7b91918d.jpgbcb031cedab69b33005e6ebd17c5d5b7.jpg949cc4df5ba84625f092c7d2f9868ae1.jpg417c41ae7f8abea4775083afd390d0bb.jpg34251f0a6037acc94c380d4dcbe07ff9.jpgd33e8cb43d8b10ff5b2e830522f7a99f.jpg

  12. We went to the sushi bar and had lunch. I tried raw tuna for the first time. It wasn't bad at all. The sushi rolls were taking a long time to come out. They kept bringing food out instead. So edamame and miso soup were complimentary. There were so many people that they actually put us in Teppanyaki.

That night we had dinner at Teppanyaki. It was great as well. b4f877f435cc361fa902ad56a3417449.jpg746798a7e9681fa5272e33296bfaef91.jpga05bf2b5544595833cbb2c8a5a3816f0.jpge12a08c01019461a196c0837145efe52.jpg795162f3b8a6c72311ad4bb06ec56788.jpg1fa8c4a3c745a7443c9826f7191cbccc.jpg

  13. The next day we were supposed to go to the private island. Unfortunately we were experiencing 5 to 10 ft swells so tender for us. We regrouped and went up on deck 18. It was very quiet and no bar. So no spring breakers. I managed to get burnt to a crisp even with sunblock. Lol

The following day we explored Deck 19. It was even better. Lol. I napped in one of the chairs up there. 850ed6957ce7f2b0f7017e00d94165af.jpgbcebebee08c8b9b831d61b03da3d70ec.jpg2f8c8fc365afb227b8d56c3fb4eee082.jpgcbc2c8ff2be232d8f2b304bea6c1e923.jpg8a289344c7a83128e48b13f6fcfa7fcc.jpg23c35d9be9ada03d10f789dfc5b832e8.jpg
