We were in V7131 on Nieuw Statendam to Norway in June 2019. Very comfortable cabin with a bit extra space both in the room and on the balcony. It's the same width as a standard cabin, with about a 9-foot triangular extension at the verandah-end of the room. The verandah itself is about the same depth as standard, but longer in width, since it forms the “hypotenuse” of the triangle. Both the desk and loveseat are against the long wall. I was able to use the space for floor exercises. Happy to answer any questions,

Thanks so much for posting these pics! We have that room booked for our cruise in the next few weeks. The rep at Holland said the bathroom might be a bit larger. Did you notice by chance?

    Thanks!!!

You're right ... I looked at the Koningsdam deck plan, not Nieuw Statendam, where 7107 IS an SS.  Sorry, OP, your room is a standard Verandah size, 9 ft by 22 ft, and the picture links I gave you don't apply.

Since the room sizes that HAL quotes includes the balcony it is possible that the HAL rep who said the room was larger was looking at that total, not just the inside space.  Or they were simply wrong!

Thanks for all the info. I hung up with Holland..... I moved to room 7131, She said the room was definitely larger. The balcony would be smaller...but the room is larger.

It is no larger or smaller than any other SS cabin. It is 50% wider than a standard veranda.  So which are you asking?

Is the room larger...not the balcony. I was told by one agent the room is larger than a standard balcony room.  Thanks

    New to Holland

  4. Quick question......I called Holland direct and received two different answers. We booked the Nieuw Statendam room 7107 balcony room. I know the balcony is larger. I can see from the deck plan it's true. Well another agent said the room was also a bit larger than a regular balcony room. Was wonder if anyone can confirm.  The 1st agent said the room was NOT larger. Not sure who to believe.     Thanks!

Just an FYI -  We were also at Princess Cay yesterday, and you should be aware there is no running water to wash hands after using the restroom.  Just Purel hand sanitizer.  The beach is still beautiful, and we had a great day, but with all the warnings you get onboard about hand washing, it might have been a good idea to alert passengers ahead of time.

We agreed 100%, as a lot  of other passengers on board did.  Many other people  we met were surprised as there was no running water in the bathroom sinks and most hand sanitizers were empty outside the bathrooms and by the buffet line on the island. We did enjoy the sunshine.

  6. Outside of Cuba, buy your Cuban cigars at any "La Casa de Habanos"

That will be a certified seller of Cuban cigars

And to add to your correct advice, La Casa de Habanos has a store in Cozumel.

There's a "La Casa del Habano" in Cozumel. Is that the same thing as "La Casa de Habanos"? La Casa del Habano is a restaurant, bar, and sells cigars. Reviews say the owner rolls his own cigars, which are classified as Cubans. Wouldn't they need to be rolled in Cuba to be Cubans? I also haven't figured out if they sell name brand Cubans or not. I'm wondering if I should go here or to Havana Bob's Cuban Cigars (or somewhere else) when I visit Cozumel. Havana Bob's Cuban Cigars advertises that they sell genuine Cubans, and all reviews back that up.

  7. The deck 10 Spa Balcony rooms are deeper than deck 11, but appear slightly shallower than the standard balconies on decks 7/8/9. There are few real "perks" to booking a spa balcony on HAL (they DO NOT have access to the thermal suite or hydrotherapy pool for example). If it is not too late I would save the $$ and revert back to your original room if you can and spend the monies elsewhere

I can't go back to he original room. They gave me 10034. Like you said....the balcony is smaller then original room on deck 7. They said there are 2 chairs and a small table for room 10034. The only other place they could move us was on deck 5 right above the lifeboats. Thanks so much for all your help. I was in a panic. :)

Thanks......after waiting on hold for a supervisor for about 45 minutes. I was moved to room 5117. I was told the lifeboats are under us...but does not black the view. Thanks for everyone's help.

  9. I would never try to board late again.Things don't always go as planned. Once we were at the rental car place waiting for their shuttle maybe around 1:45 pm just 10 minutes away from port. The guy never showed up. They did not know where their driver was with their van. There were 10 of us waiting for the van. They finally got another driver and van. We were the last one on the ship. It was the most stressful day. I had a migraine for 2 days after. I will always be early from now on. You never know what will happen. Moral to story....be early ...:)

  10. 1st time on Holland......

Was going into the website to make some purchase for our cruise. I do not see " just standard" bottled water for sale. I saw the Evian water, but I am looking for just the standard bottled water. I tried calling and they are closed. Does anyone know if you can buy the standard bottled water once we board. I do not want to carry it on with us.

    Thanks!

  11. Probably both answers were right, but not very helpful. Sorry about the confusion. It will depend upon which ship you choose. The newer, bigger HAL ships like the Konigsdam, or ones that have had cabin upgrades will have more in-cabin entertainment choices.

The older ones that have not yet been upgraded more likely will not - but there is a very large list of DVD's still available to play in your cabin, just not on demand in your cabin. What cruise were you starting to look at. HAL does have more smaller and older ships than what you find on much of the Princess fleet, so this probably not a good comparison for what for some of the HAL ships. The Konigsdam would probably be the closest equivalent to Princess.

Still not much help, right? If you can narrow down to a few possible HAL ships, others with direct experience can help you. I know we were surprised how many in-cabin movies were available on the Nieuw Amsterdam that we never had on our more usual smaller, older HAL ship choices.

General guideline for age and size:

Konigsdasm - Eurodam -Nieuw Amsterdam - largest, newer, most likely to have the most in-cabin entertainment

Zuiderdam- Noordam - Westerdam - Oosterdam - middle - larger but not as new - getting refurbished one by one

Maasdam, Veendam, Zaandam Volendam, Amsterdam, Rotterdam - smallest and oldest HAL- also getting upgraded one by one

Prinsendam - in a class by herself - smallest and oldest of all, but still called the Elegant Explorer -she is a special journey ship

Wow.....Thanks for all the good info . We were looking at the -Nieuw Amsterdam.

  12. We are planning a cruise with Holland. (not sure what ship yet) We have been on several Princess cruises and really enjoyed all the "on demand" movies on The Regal Princess and Royal Princess. When I spoke with the HAL agent she said they also offer on demand movies but it was very limited to about 10 movies. I called back again and was told the "on demand" movies had a HUGE selection of new on demand movies. Can someone please confirm either way?

    Thanks
