  1. I've only sailed Princess and Carnival, and yes, able bodied people are not allowed to use the elevators during a drill. However, the staff stationed at the elevators always has allowed people with disabilities to use them, my husband travels with a scooter and hasn't had a problem --except that after the drill the elevators are open to all and he doesn't have a chance fighting the swarm of able bodied people who don't want to use the steps if they don't have to. So normally he finds a place to relax and I walk back up the steps to return our life jackets to the room and join him back downstairs later.

  2. Thanks for the replies.

I measured the opening on the Emerald last time I was on it, and the door opening was 22 inches (balcony room - not sure if inside rooms are narrower than balcony rooms - or if the openings are wider on the Emerald than on the Island).

I was not able to get an HC room for a cruise that is sailing at the end of November - so I booked a minisuite, just to have the extra storage room for a scooter. The step up to the bathroom is not a problem. My husband walks short distances very well - his problem is that he cannot walk the lengths of the passageways between cabin/elevator/dining room/theatre. We traveled without a scooter in December and he said 'never again'.

I guess I have to wonder if a 19.5 inch wide scooter is TRULY 19.5 and will fit through a doorway that I'm hoping is truly 20 inches. The travel scooter can be disassembled and moved through the doorway by two people sideways --- but what a chore that would be.

And honestly I don't want to take an HC room from someone else on a different sailing if we can make it work in a minisuite.

If anyone else has any knowledge of Princess ships and door width, please let me know. When I called Princess they told me the door was 24 inches. Not even sure if that's true, but the opening is clearly not.

  3. Has anyone ever measured the door opening width clearance on a Princess ship? Wondering if a 19.5 inch travel scooter will fit through the door of a standard cabin or minisuite --- or if it would be necessary to disassemble the scooter in the hallway to get it through the door on its side (which seems REALLY inconvenient).

  4. Just thanking those of you who brought my attention to a couple of errors on the site. They have been corrected. And everything should be ok now. I would love to hear from anyone who has stayed in D311, D312, D414, D415, D503 or D504. I named these particular cabins as particulary open to view. Would just like have some confrimation to see if I got the right room numbers. Thanks again

I can verify what you are saying about D311 and D312. We were in C309 which is next door and one level up from D311 - it is completely open to those fore and above. Here's a picture looking aft from C309, I think it gives you an idea:

  5. Tom - I'm curious --

On the rear bumpout section it appears that cabin A625 is immediately above B637. B637 is marked as being uncovered. It would seem to me that it would be at least partially covered by A's balcony. I'm only interested as my next cruise is in B637. It's not a big issue for me if it's covered or not, but I did choose it thinking it looked like it was covered (from my view from C309 - admittedly a long distance glance). What do you think? Could I be right?

  6. It looks to me like all of the baconies on the Caribe deck are large except for the ones in the two "bump outs" (C232-C310 & C416-C504).

Yes, we stayed in C309 in December on the Coral and the balcony was tiny, but I chose it specifically because it was a corner with the wrap around glass railing and we had a great view. Yeah, people may have had a great view of us too - but I didn't care. Except for the morning of the Canal transit, we rarely saw anyone out on their balconies. Seems like a shame to pay for a balcony and not use it ------
