Towards the end of another day, a summary.

For a sea day without sunshine and sun loungers, it has been a good one. The talk by Gervase Phinn on some of his experiences as a school inspector was excellently delivered, amusing but thought provoking. He really is an excellent speaker and if he is ever on a ship on which you are cruising, well worth listening to. He has five more talks to go.

Lunch was three small plates in the glasshouse. The plates may have been small but there was plenty of food for one person. A glass of velvet devil red wine was a good accompaniment. At around £14 for a large glass, it makes the top drinks package seem to be a good choice but of course it depends on the tipple you choose. For beer, and a lesser degree spirits (around £8 for a 50cl measure of something decent), maybe not so good.

We have a classical guitarist onboard (Carlos Bonell) who has collaborated a lot with Queen and Paul McCartney as well as playing classical selections with various orchestras. His 45 minute concert was very enjoyable, including a range of styles, including flamenco, the first movement of the Spring concerto from Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, the Beatle’s ‘Penny Lane’ and Cavatina, from the film ‘The Deerhunter’. All were excellently played. He is also appearing five more times. The busker who we have onboard was not of the same quality. After renditions of two Ed Sheeran songs, we left when he started murdering my favourite Adele song.

Tonight was the first celebration night. As the main courses were not greatly to my taste, I chose the main course from the pay extra ‘signature menu’. Apparently, I was the first person to select this. Although the steak was cooked excellently to my requested medium rare, if so few people are choosing to pay extra from that optional menu, its days may be numbered even at this early stage. In my opinion, it would be a shame if this happened, but consumer demand (or lack of it) may dictate its future.

The weather has been fine all day and the sea has been calm with little movement to suggest we are crossing the North Sea. Hopefully this will remain so but somehow, I doubt it will.

We've just come off the Aurora R320 Caribbean Cruise and we didn't have the choice of the signature menu at any time in the Medina Restaurant.  We thought the service in the restaurant was excellent and if our food was not up to standard (tough and overcooked meat on many occasions) it was changed, or the offer was made to substitute it.

  2. Just returned home from SE Asia cruise on Millennium. Wow, wow and WOW! We had an amazing time.

Started in Hong Kong but with rain, fog and cold, Halong Bay much the same but absolutely stunning. Hue was cold and wet, but did a cyclo ride which was huge fun. Ho Chi Minh City was warm and sunny - great. We booked our own tours with Authentic Asia Tours and can highly recommend them.

They also arranged an overnight stay in Bangkok with car, driver and two full days - brilliant, but be prepared for huge crowds.

Did our own thing in Singapore as we’d been previously so just went to Chinatown and the new hotel in the sky.

We added on 3 days in Cambodia to see Angkor Wat and that was fabulous and well worthwhile. People were lovely, smiling and friendly everywhere and the food - oh boy, what can I say!!!!!!!!!!!

Hotel accommodation is great everywhere, you can get a bit pressurised by children wanting to sell stuff, and be prepared to haggle everywhere in markets.

Go for it, you won’t regret it.

  3. Seems I find many trip reports from loyal Celebrity passengers and people who cruise Aqua/Concierge class.

My report is from Deck 2, inside guarantee , 3 people sharing a room

First about me, I have done about 5 cruises on major lines, all of the ships being smaller and older (Fascination ,NCLStar, Ryndam, Majesty of the Sea) I have no desire to get on a ship with 4,000 to 6,000 people. I also split my vacation time between land and sea.

I had a group from work ask me if I wanted to come along with them to Bermuda. Since I have never been and I live in NJ I figured what the heck ( even though I just came back from Providenciales about 4 weeks before)

I am single and usually travel solo, so having 3 to a room was a little bit nerving to me, but the costs for a solo cabin was out of the budget.

We booked through a travel agent my friend used, have no reason to book with them again. At least we were able to get a room assignment right away and were able to get a room with the fold out chair and not the bunks.(we booked early May)

  4. Found this in Roll Call Tool/Celebrity Connections FAQ

"Use your Beverage Package many places on board

Your package can be used many places on the ship—in the Main Restaurant, any specialty restaurant, the casual dining restaurants and buffet, plus all bars and lounges. Beverage packages cannot be used at the in-stateroom mini bar, through Room Service, or at the Enomatic® wine-dispensing system in Cellar Masters."

    Cheers
