First off, I am not coming here to complain; I am just genuinely curious. I know some say it is random, but I have to think Carnival has some algorithms for determining what offers people get (for instance, I usually rack up a lot of drinks on Cheers so I only received the RU9 promo 😂). But what isn't making sense to me is what I am seeing right now. Carnival is trying to fill ships. I have been on 14 Carnival cruises, with my 15th booked for the Mardi Gras in November. We had 3 cruises cancelled and then rebooked last year, so an obvious willingness to cruise. I also live in Florida, so I have easy access to cruise ports. I am not a heavy gambler but play enough to receive occasional bounce back offers. However, I keep seeing all of these posts about $100 rooms (and have heard friends who haven't been on a cruise in 4 years getting emails with that type of promo), yet I'm not getting any decent offers. Again, I'm not complaining as I'm not even sure I could squeeze a cruise in right now...just more curious if anyone knows the science behind it.

I received the $100 offer and $200 onboard credit also...i hadn't sailed carnival in 7 years i did play a little in the casino back then  i've done like 9 carnival cruises ..i had been checking the prices on Mardi gras oct.30 sailing probably 4 or 5 times..my guess is they sent me this offer knowing i had been peeking but never booked....other ships showed up as available for the promo..i scrolled about 3 times thru them but none i really liked all of a sudden Mardi Gras was added to my available choices...coincidence? maybe or maybe not..

  2. I do love the money bar..many years ago when it was zhul ha..there was only a straw covered bar type structure, there was someone that day that offered to follow him to see the best parts of the reef,it was awesome..yes it is a rocky entrance but it was awesome, now that it is money bar I have been 2 times, food and people there were awesome,we snorkeled but I did not try hard enough to find the spots our guide brought us to the first time, food was good too ,I will always try to get back there, wish I could stay sometime for the sunset, and looks like they have a band at night..

  3. This will be my 2nd solo cabin on Epic end of Nov. last Nov.i met a very nice friend from Wales ..we had fun together ..so we both booked the same cruise to meet up again..we have been emailing all year...I have read you can ask to have 1 of the beds removed from the cabin and have more floor space..i am going to request this when I am onboard,i never used the other half of the bed anyway, just used it to move the decorative pillows out of my way for sleeping

  4. Not having much luck finding my answers on the solo threads or in my search on the NCL board, except for reading through peoples pages of reviews.

This is my first time travelling solo. I'm in a balcony, so I realize that I do not have full access to the solo lounge (I have no issues with that and totally understand). But I know that I can attend the solo gatherings at the set times.

So I'm looking for info on these gatherings (and yes I realize each solo host/hostess, runs them a little different).

Have people had good luck meeting others that they have things in common with

How do sign up sheets work? Are they just for shows and MDR or are there ones for the specialty dining venues as well?

Is there a new sign up sheet every evening or is it for the length of the cruise?

If the mega ships are very hard to get into shows and specialty dining, what happens if I don't reserve before or the beginning of my cruise, since these gatherings aren't until after you are onboard.

Any information you can give me about these gatherings would be much appreciated.

I agree I think it may vary among hosts but on my epic solo cruise last nov. there was a sign up sheet for shows ,she said they hold a certain amount of seats for the solos to sign up the night before..other then that our hostess dropped the ball and had better things to do then organize our dinners ,there was a sign up board for things,i think someone had to start an organized dinner etc. but others signed up if someone took the initiative..thou o think this is not the norm..still had an awesome time..did sign up for a few shows the night before with our hostess worked out great!

  5. Hello Everyone, I had some other vacation plans go bust for this winter and decided Ive never taken a cruise so lets change that. I'll be traveling solo and am a single straight male in my mid 30s with a fairly active lifestyle. I've done a bit of research trying to find my best options and am working with an agent as well and she has given me a few options and has promised a few more to come today. here is what she has found for me so far

    Carnival Conquest

11/25/17 for 8 days Eastern Caribbean leaving from Ft Lauderdale, FL

1/6/18 for 8 days Southern Caribbean leaving from Ft Lauderdale, FL

Royal Caribbean Serenade of the Seas

11/24/17 for 10 days Southern Caribbean leaving from Ft Lauderdale, FL

1/26/18 for 10 days Southern Caribbean leaving from Ft Lauderdale, FL

A few of my requirements as I see them:

    1) not necessarily looking for a singles cruise but would be nice if there is a higher likelihood of single travelers around my age

    2) would prefer not to be overrun by families and kids

    3) want a fun Itinerary with lots of opportunity for exploring (hiking, snorkling, kayaking, etc) in port as well as fun activities on board

    4) best bang for my buck? drink packages, food packages, etc.

    5) Would prefer to leave from florida because it looks like leaving from other places has half of the itinerary stopping at ports in the US...

I have also been looking at other cruise lines like NCL. No concrete dates in mind but I want to do something this fall/winter if possible.

now that Ive laid out some background, here are my questions:

Of what I have listed in the first 4 options, which will I likely have more fun on and have more of my so called requirements met?

Other things I should be looking for?

alternate recommendations for cruise line, month, itinerary?

Thank you all very much in advance! these boards have been of tremendous help researching for this trip.

I've done a few singles cruises(with a group )..they were fun and met new friends..but I liked the ncl epic with the solo lounge as well or better with less expense..i'm doing the epic again this nov. met a new friend last nov. who is booking again also...I prefer the epics solo cabins...IMHO..also the drink package as a perk can't be beat..

  6. Thank you for bringing back this thread, first time going on Epic end of this month..did ok on Carnival broke even or was up some on last 3 Carnival cruises ,was wondering about the slots on Epic sounds like they may be about the same, have used a lil advice from friends ,the usual type of stuff, does seem to help some..;)..never have gambled at a land based casino ,so cannot compare

  7. I ,m sure this is what I caught on Superbowl sunday a few years back ,ship sailed the day before on Saturday..i felt sick at half time, went to the cabin and stayed on the commode for the entire second half of the game feeling like I was dying nothing I have ever had before,my roommate came to check on me ,I asked her to go to the ship store ,she did ,there were 2 stores all shelves bare of stomach remedies, she was told many were sick,i waited till we stopped in belize to get Imodium from the store there, even after imodium everytime I ate it made me feel real sick, this was on the Dream..i emailed Carnival when we returned and told them they need to stock there stores better ,they said they did not own these on board stores and would pass this along...I truly believe they new Noro was on board..and brushed it under the rug...anyone that says oh why didn't you go to doc, cause I didn't think I had it till it didn't start to go away till the 5th day of a 7 day cruise...at least I didn't gain any weight on this 1..and yes I would still sail on Carnival ..just bring Imodium

  8. I have been on 10 Carnival cruises and have booked my first NCL on Epic since it will be at Port Canaveral next fall,i can already feel the huge diference when speaking with NCL customer service verses Carnival,Carnival is so more inviting fun and friendly,i do not have a good feeling at all with NCL customer service!

  9. I do have to say on another cruise i booked an aft balcony on the dream with a friend (which i paid for)..they called us out of the blue before we left and offered her ,her own balcony cabin at no extra charge, seems they had waived single supplement near sail date,so hard to be to mad, except being to warm did make me feel ill,i keep myself very comfortable at home not used to having no control over air...

  10. I was in a very hot cabin AC not working ,i hadn't checked to see if they still had the Guarentee since i hadn't cruised in a year, and didn't think of checking, after they could not fix the air i went to guest services and told them i wanted to use the guarentee she looked at me like i had 2 heads and no knowlege of it,i did not stand my ground since i wasn't sure if it was still offered, after getting home i did check and yes i should have stood my ground i heard the cleaning staff say there was an empty cabin on our floor i;m sure we would have been moved if i stood my ground does make me question their operations..the meek get nada..and it was a pack n go,very low cost..so i think they felt very lil obligation
