  1. I have been cruising with my daughter since she was 8 months old. We never had grandparents or family to leave her with as someone said above and to be honest we wanted to travel with her. It has been great she is now 6 and has been on 8 cruise with another scheduled for September. I agree with what people have said above. Bring everything diapers, wipes, bottles, sippy cups if your toddler needs 1, dish detergent to wash cups in the room, toys for the room, medicines (cold/ allergy) or whatever they may need. Bring a blow up tub if your little 1 doesn't fit in the sink if you aren't in a stateroom with a tub. There are times when you can go to the kids club and stay and play with your child. Usually in the morning. Have a good time and go with the flow.

Here she is with our room steward. We had a great time

  2. I have been cruising with my now 5 year old since she was 8 months old. For me it was not difficult at all. You do need to bring everything he or she will need (diaper/ formula and so on)

But other then that it was a very east vacation for us. It was different then when we cruised before kids but we love cruising and so does she. there are times (usually in the morning) when you can go to the kids club with baby and play. If you get a balcony, you can hang out there while baby naps. I agree check out the family boards they have a lot of advise.

  3. I just called Carnival. All of the above minus seafood shack are included as kids eat free with an adult if you are booked in the family harbor. I think the kids have to eat off a kids menu that includes typical kids menu stuff (ie chicken nuggets kids pizza.) I have kids that love sushi and steak and Italian food. Oh well.:(

Yes I was told they free all the sit down restaurants. So not the Seafood Shack.

    From Carnival Website.

    • "Kids (11 years of age and under) dine for free off the kids' menu in Fahrenheit 555, Cucina del Capitano, Ji Ji Asian Kitchen and Bonsai Sushi. Children must dine with an adult"

  4. Congrats,

I cruised while pregnant. It was years again as my daughter is now 5. We filled out the form and had our doctor sign off. We never had any issues. They did not contact our doctor. They asked for the form during check and filed it away. I didn't see any difference in our check in process from when I was pregnant and when I wasn't. It took the same amount of time. Only difference I had during that cruise is that our Bar bill was cut in Half LOL.

Also I would just say bring the original form with you even if you faxed it ahead of time in case they ask for it.

  5. I took my daughter on multiple cruisit's while breastfeeding and I never had any issues. No one said anything to me or treated me any different then if I was at home.most times i use a cover but honestly if it is to hot I won't use one.

  6. I just posted the following on another thread concerning babies on board. While it will upset some, have a read:

    ______________________________________________________________

Okay, I'm going to upset a lot of people with my opinion:

I would never bring a child on a ship who is not ambulatory and who does not have basic speaking / language comprehension ability. Crying in public or diapers in a pool do not concern me, but evacuation does.

    Why?

The unthinkable, think of Costa Concordia, or a similar calamity that could strike the ship, and the need to evacuate quickly, sometimes not as you might imagine it during the muster drill.

How might you carry your baby if forced to climb down a "Jacobs" rope ladder down the side of the ship? You had best have a back harness to put your baby in. Never assume that you will always get into an assigned life boat. What if you have to enter the water before climbing on to a boat?

Yes the chances of this are very slim, but it is worthy of serious thought.

Otherwise, look up the names Titanic (obvious), Empress of Ireland, Morrow Castle, Andrea Doria, Prinsendam, Oceanos, Estonia, Sun Vista, Achille Lauro, and the list goes on and on. On some of these babies, not to mention entire families were lost. On some, all were saved, but to put a baby through that?

Never assume that in a calamitous situation that other passengers, many in a panic, or the crew will give you priority over others. Sad, but true.

Sorry to take a different tack on this, but I feel it should be mentioned.

So I say to each it's own but I don't Vacation without my child. That is just was works best for my family. As for your feels about things. Should my child not fly in a plane because it could go down. Should I not put her in a car because there could be a car accident? If I stopped doing the things I love because of the what ifs in life (even with children) then whats the point of living. Not flaming or anything just my 2 cents.

  7. We have been on 8 cruises, 5 (6 if you count when she was in my belly) of which have been with our now 4 year old. Been cruising with her since she was 8 months. We are booked on another 1 in 21 days. We love cruising and after having my daughter we debated waiting til she was old but why should we wait. I have cruise with and without a Balcony and either is fine although we prefer a balcony.

I hate umbrella strollers, so bring a bigger 1, but Because the room is small keep in mind if you bring a big stroller it may not fit through the door and you may have trouble with hallway. We usually fold ours in the hall way.

keep track of how many diaper you use in a week or however long your cruise is, and bring that amount please an extra day.

bring everything you might need for the baby, (medicine, formula if you need it, wipes, ect.)

I also brought those Diaper trash bags in case of a poop diaper so the room didn't small. Some cruise lines offer Diaper genies but when my daughter was in diaper they didn't.

Most ships don't have a tub, if you child is not comfortable with showers, then you need a blow up tub.

During the day if the baby needs room to run around, find an empty room.

The kids club has times when you can take your child and stay with them while they play.

We like the main dinning room for dinner and have never had a problem with our little one but she is used to be eating out so its fine.

bring a small bottle of dish detergent and a sponge to wash any bottles or sippy cups.

Please feel free to message me with any questions

  8. I was also on this sailing. The seas were so bad that we missed the M & G. My hubby and our daughter were both sick. I thought the weather was pretty good in port though, other then the rainy morning we had in tortula.

as for us, This was our first NCL Cruise (we have been on many carnival and 1 disney), and we had a great time. We even bought a Cruise next certificate. Our room steward was great, as was the kids club. But I agree with the original poster. There was just something off about this cruise. There were 3 or 4 staff that stood out on this cruise but most of the crew just wasn't that out of your way nice that I am used to on cruise. I mean no one was rude or anything and everyone was working hard. But something was missing from what I am used to on a cruise. 1 example I will give. We went to O'sheehan 1 day, we ordered our food and we got it. We waited and waited and waited about 30 minutes for our waiter to come back to order dessert and another drink, he never came back, we finally gave up and left. Another example, we asked our waiter one night at dinner about ordering drinks, he said he would send a bartender, same thing we waited and waited. No one ever came. finally after we were finish with our entree, the waiter offered to go get our drinks.

  9. Sometimes they do offer promos where kids sail free if they are 3 through 8 person in the room but for generally speaking no. This is true for most cruise lines. I have cruise with daughter since she was about 8 months and we have been paying the full 3rd person rate. I booked a cruise with NCL back in February for this coming January and they were running the kids sail free promo.

  10. I am leaving on the Gem 10 fay on 1/12/2016.

Does the Kids club open up on the first night? If so do you know what time? I want to make dining reservations. Also does the club generally close at night.

I was thinking of getting the spa pass. Is the spa separated for men and Women? Would my husband and I be able to enjoy it together?

I meant to say What time does the club generally close at night.

  11. I am booked on the Gem out of New York for January. I booked back in Feb. when the UBP was truly free. We have been on many cruises but never NCL. We choose NCL for many reasons. We generally like to at the end of september (our anniversary) or in January (to break up the winter). We were Carnival loyalist (the price is right), however we also like the convenience of cruising out of NY(where we live). We have a toddler who we cruise with and it is much easier and cheaper for us to not have to fly to florida. Carnival no longer cruise out of NY in the winter. We also wanted to try something different. The UBP Promo was just a bonus for us as our onboard account balance is usually mostly alcohol but we never drink enough to make purchasing the drink package worth it. O and I forgot they had the Kids sail free promotion when we booked as well, which is another bonus since we have a 3 year old and it the main reason, they won out over RCCL. That and the fact that we didn't have to travel to Jersey.

  12. They have your photo in the system, but I don't think it ever comes up when you swipe your card around the ship, only when the security staff scan you on and off the ship. So it is really not that difficult to get away with using someone else's card, but the staff are usually pretty good with names and faces and with all the packages these days (none of which are transferable or shareable) they are probably trained to be on the lookout for people using each other's cards, maybe they get a little bonus if they catch you, I don't know.

I can't speak for NCL as my first cruise will be in January but I know on Carnival and Disney, your picture come up on the computer when they swipe it at bars and other POS systems. I have seen my picture come up on the screen.

  13. My family and I have cruise out of NY in January twice. We like to cruise in the winter to break up the cold. Cruising out of NY works for us because the cost to fly to florida for 3 people on top of cruise fare is expensive and not having to fly with a 3 year old is always great. Plus we get a longer cruise for similar prices. The first couple of days and last couple of days we usually explore the ship and do a lot of the indoor cruise activities. We love it. The only thing I will say is that I find the Sea's are a little bit rougher in the winter in the north.

  14. I just noticed on my cruise Docs for my upcoming cruise in January, that we have an enclosed Balcony. What are the advantages or disadvantages of an enclosed balcony compared to a regular balcony? I am afraid we will be disappointed. We are in room 8048. Anyone have an experience with the room or location?
