  1. I called and spoke to a customer service rep as we booked directly with Celebrity and they took care of changing my husband from the classic alcohol beverage package to the zero proof package with no difficulty. I didn’t want to wait and deal with it onboard.

Unfortunately, the port of Tallinn schedule for cruise ships doesn't show the dock.

    https://www.portoftallinn.com/static/files/189.Cruise%20Ship%20Schedule%202019%20-%20Tallinn.pdf

The usual cruise dock has room for 4 ships so when ever there are more than 4 scheduled for the same day, I would expect them to go elsewhere such as Muuga.

Thanks for the info! It looks like there’s only 3 ships in port September 1 so we should be good.

  3. I was advised by a tour operator in Tallinn today that Celebrity always docks in Tallinn and not Muuga as it is a shipping port only and their itineraries are incorrect in that regard. My itinerary on the Reflection sailing August 25 also says Muuga. Does anyone here know what the real deal is? If Muuga, I’m booking a tour due to the distance and lack of public transportation out there. Otherwise we are doing a DIY walking tour..,

Muuga is far from Tallinn. Try a local company or book your ship tour.

  4. Hi Everyone,

Hoping someone knows the inner workings well enough to know if it would reflect badly on the original butler if I asked not to be assigned to him on my upcoming trip? I don't want to cause problems for anyone, but I would like better service this time around. Any insights?

    Thanks!

It will definitely reflect badly. They aren’t allowed very many negative comments and they will either lose their job or be demoted. Please think carefully about it as, although good service is important, there are times people are not always on their game for reasons we can’t know about. Crew are far from home for long periods and it takes its toll. Other times, they are relatively new and learning. I’ve seen good crew do their utmost and still get shafted due to unreasonable demands. It’s a difficult balance but I always hesitate as I don’t want to destroy someone’s livelihood.

  5. For that short cruise, I'd wait until on board and decide if you'd like a change one or two nights. You can easily get 20% off most nights. The mdr food is good and the buffet offers variety. Cancel your package and decide onboard.;p

Thanks, I have cancelled and only booked Murano for valentines Day as it was showing minimal availability. I’ll see what’s offered onboard as well.

  6. Thanks so much for your review of the Silhouette. We are sailing Feb 11 so your comments are very helpful. One question though: have you noticed if the progressive dinner is offered on the ship and if it’s still $99 pp. We aren’t in a suite this sailing so are trying to make some dining decisions. We have a package booked but it sounds like some of the specialty restaurants may not be worth the additional charge... Thanks!

  7. With the demise of the UDP we are now just looking at these packages and the issues of MDR etc

Wondering some of the same things Larry.

BTW we have a little place on Little Yellow Mt ;)

I was wondering about the same thing re locking in a reservation and then being able to convert it to one of the specialty Dining package bookings.

    What does UDP stand for?

  8. With the dining package you can’t make any reservations until you are on the ship.

As you are boarding the ship there is normally a crew member with a computer making reservations for those with a pre-purchased dining package. You can also find crew members outside the Oceanview buffet making reservations or go to one of the restaurants and someone there will make reservations. I would make this the first thing I did once on the ship if you want a shot at Murano for 2/14.

By the way, once onboard you can change the date of that first dinner if the 2nd night isn’t your preference.

Ok thanks. As Murano is filling up maybe we should just cancel the 3 night package, book Murano online and grab another specialty restaurant discounted on embarkation day...we will avoid disappointment that way.

  9. I read from another thread that you can make reservations in advance of sailing online. I realize Celebrity will require us to use one of the 3 nights in our package in the first 2 nights and we have opted for night two. Is there any way to select the actual restaurant in advance? Also, we are sailing over Valentines Day and really want Murano that night. There are limited reservations available but it won’t let me select another of my dining package reservations for that night. Any suggestions? I don’t want to pay an additional $100 usd. Thanks

  10. We are sailing on a 7 night eastern Caribbean cruise on the Silhouette next month. I purchased the 3 night specialty dining package but am having second thoughts. I’m not hearing great things about the specialty restaurants and there are only 6 dining nights as we have a late port day in San Juan. I’m hearing I can get half price specialty dining on embarkation day and then I could always book one or more other nights if we want after that. Is it really worth it to do the 3 night package?

  11. For lunch the buffet, the Mast Grill and the Spa cafe are open at embarkation. If you are sailing in a Suite Luminae will be open or if you are sailing in Concierge class cabin there is lunch in the MDR.

As for dinner the buffet is never crowded at dinner. If your assigned dining is the MDR You should have been booked for either traditional dining (set time, table ) either or early or late seating and the only delay is getting everyone escorted to their assigned table. If you are booked in Select Dining (dine at the time you choose) there can be a wait to be seated at some peak times particularly on the first night. We always go on line and make a reservation for the first night or two.

Thanks for the information! We’ve cruised several times with Celebrity and I had no idea that advance Select Dining reservations were an option. We’ve now reserved our dining online for the first night of our upcoming cruise!

  12. The Island Princess will be in Juneau on September 10. She will berth at Franklin Dock (FKL). Franklin Dock is located one berth south of the Mt Roberts Tram building and is about a quarter-mile walk.

Here is the cruise ship schedule for Juneau showing dock locations:

    http://claalaska.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/Juneau-JNU-2017.pdf (page 5)

And here is a page describing the dock locations and other useful information.

    http://cruiseportwiki.com/Juneau

If your husband has trouble walking, I would recommend contacting Harv & Marv and letting them know this. Request that they keep the original pickup point in front of your ship at Franklin Dock (FKL).

Thanks. I appreciate all the info. We are in Juneau September 15 and your link indicates the Franklin dock. We have asked they leave pick up the same but if not, hopefully the walk is manageable.

  13. Hi we are heading out next week on the Island Princess and have a whale watching tour booked with Harv and Marv. They have advised they want to change pick up from the ship to the tram entrance. I have no idea where we dock and my husband has knee issues that inhibit walking. Does anyone know where the Island docks in relation to the tram entrance?

  14. Hi, I've done Alaska before but this this time I'm taking my husband who has not. He's doing a float plane trip in Ketchikan and I've been on this before so wanting to do something different. Currently I've booked Totem Bight and the lumberjack show through the ship but am really not sure. I'd like to see totem poles and nature but hate bus tours. We plan to meet up when he's done the tour of the Misty Fjords for the remainder of our day but not sure if I should hop a bus somewhere or stay put and see the totem museum and creek street although we could likely do that when he's done his tour. He's done at 2 and ship leaves at 6. Any thoughts?

  15. We were there in October and had a group from CC that made advance reservations. They still took walk ins that day for the same price but it's subject to availability. Cost was $20 usd for 2 loungers, bucket of beer or soda and umbrella. Nice location on the boardwalk but we found there was a lot of locals bugging us all day to buy stuff, braid hair, have a massage etc. If you don't mind that, the beach and food was very good.

  16. I got a quote from him yesterday for $60pp  for the three in our party. FWIW, he can only accomodate 4 with luggage.

Well that's odd. He told me last week $150 for up to 3 and, if 4 or more people, it's $50 pp each. There's 2 of us booked and he encouraged me to invite more people up to 6, knowing he is bringing our luggage. Maybe it's a different vehicle that day...
