  1. I plan to buy a fifth of Scotch prior to boarding the ship in Southampton for a TA. I have no plans to open it until I get home. Now, here's where I need some guidance. Where do I put it; in my checked baggage or my carry-on. If I put it in my checked bag, I'll get a call from security to come to the "naughty room" to declare it. Not a problem, just an inconvenience and having to drag my suitcase back to the cabin and then re-packing it. If I choose to use Luggage Valet, I won't have the scotch to put in my suitcase prior to it being checked by customs. Then, I have a problem at the airport with carrying a bottle of liquid that was bought prior to going through the TSA checkpoint. If I put it in my carry-on, it will be confiscated when it goes through the x-ray before even boarding. So, any suggestions? It may not be worth the hassle to buy it, but the brand is not available in the States.

    Thanks, Captain Ronn

  2. You are absolutely correct! My fingers worked faster than my brain and I left out an important part of the address. Thank you. In our previous trips, we have used the Tube on many occasions. We took the wrong route once, figured it out rather quickly and decided to just enjoy the experience of a new destination; then took the correct route back.

  3. My wife and I are flying from Atlanta to LHR and arriving around 8:30a.m. With two large cases and two small cases for the two of us, additionally my wife will have a handbag that is quite large also. I have looked at taking the underground; but with all the luggage, the time of day, the Gloucester station is still two blocks from the hotel, my wife has not slept and I don't move as quickly as I did when I was much younger, I am opting for a car and driver to take us from LHR to the hotel on Cromwell Road. With all that said, does anyone have a preference for hired car services? I have heard that Blackberry is reputable and dependable. However, I'm sure that there are others. Any suggestions and tips will be greatly appreciated. In advance, thank you.

  4. As a diver with 30+ years of experience, I would strongly advise getting an open water certification before you do open water dives in the Caribbean. There are too many opportunities that without proper training and experience could turn disasterous quickly.

SCUBA is a fabulous sport, but there are risks that accompany each dive. Lack of preparation, experience, equipment failure, weather conditions are a few.

I don't know of any dive shops that will take a "diver" without a C-card. And, personally, I would not dive with them if there were.

I don't mean to sound preachy; but without proper education and safety skills, you are putting yourself and your dive partner at unnecessary risks for injury or possibly death.

  5. I love to drive on the islands and just sightsee at leisure. However, I don't enjoy construction; especially when I don't know the time delays or possible detours. So, heeding your suggestion, I will attempt to find a taxi driver that will take us on our tour and hopefully fill us with knowledge of the life on Curacao! Any suggestions on where to begin our search or the approximate cost?

Again, thank you for your quick response.

  6. We will be in Curacao next month and would like to visit Shete Boka, have a quick visit to the Blue Curacao "factory" and sample the various liqueurs, check out Cas Abaos, maybe see the flamingos, then return to the city for a few hours of wandering across the bridge and visiting the shops. For thos of you who have the privilege of living there or visit often, would it be best to hire a driver for four or five hours or rent a car at the port? The car rental would be $80-100 for the time and I have not idea about the cost of hiring a driver. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

  7. We will be in Calica in March on the Elation. For those who have ported here before, are there drivers who will take you to Tulum, wait for you, then take you to Play del Carmen for some shopping? From Playa, is it easy to find a taxi back to the ship? Any estimates as to the cost for hiring a driver or taxi for the trip to Tulum and then to Playa?

    Thanks for any assistance!!
