  1. I know a few who have had that happened although it does seem strange when people who want them cannot seem to get them.
It happened to me too on our first ever cruise on RCI - Rhapsody...we also booked late and the travel agent assigned it..we didn't realise until I looked up the room location

While the extra room was nice I would have happily swapped rooms if it was required

What I dont like is when people intentionally book them and then hope they dont get swapped out ... I think the cruise line should make sure that there is a genuine need (unless filling empty cabins last minute of course)

  2. A few months ago I had to book travel insurance for an upcoming Hawaii to Sydney cruise... found that a few companies wouldn't insure my mums preexisting heart condition due to being in the US

I originally did an online quote with insure and go which I thought was quite high... the next day an agent called me to discuss and after going through a lengthy phone consultation, doubling my excess and reducing the policy from gold to silver coverage I was given a price ...

I said I would call back the next day to confirm as I wanted to do a bit more research

I found that with Tick I was able to get a higher level of coverage with lower excess for about $400 less

When I rang back the agent at Insure and Go to advise I was not going to proceed with the quote, I was surprised when she answered the call with "Tick insurance" [emoji54]

When I queried her it seems they are 'sister companies' underwritten by the same insurer (and sharing a call centre!) yet can't cross-refer customers [emoji849]

Definitely look up Tick (I was also able to find a 15% discount code on Finder.com.au [emoji4]

  3. Have never had a problem with the "code type" safe however on our last cruise on the Legend of the Seas they had a safe which required a credit card to be swiped

We were lucky as my other half happened to have an unactivated cc which he was able to use.

So while we had no issues with the actual security of the safe, it meant the inconvenience of having to carry around a credit card (especially to beach ports) which kind of defeats the purpose of a safe! (particularly in the case of an active credit card) [emoji848]

  4. Yep last year they had the repo cruise from Hawaii back to Sydney on Radiance for $1200 AUD for an inside cabin (with $100 USD OBC) and $1999 for a balcony (no OBC)

Sooo cheap .. We did this cruise in 2013 and paid over $7k for a balcony for 2 pax so this was almost half price!

  5. I'm Australian and booked a cruise on Legend approx 100 days before departure date (during the time where we would forfeit our deposit if cancelling .. For some unknown reason the cancellation periods are stricter in Australia than the US) [emoji35]

I then realised that the cruise I had booked was during school holidays so wanted to transfer my booking to another cruise on the same ship two weeks later.

Too bad, so sad! Was told by the first call centre operator that I would lose "25-40%" of the cost and by the second operator that I would lose my $600 deposit.

I explained that I didn't want to cancel, per Se, just transfer my booking and payment to another date, however he advised that in booking the new date I would still have to cancel the original cruise and hence the penalty would still apply.

I ended up still cancelling as the second cruise suited our needs better in a couple of ways, but the loss of this money for no real reason still slightly rankles! [emoji41]

I hope that they are more agreeable to your situation or that alternatively, this is something that your insurance covers! [emoji4]

  6. This sometimes happens if you have already accessed your booking (to maybe look at dining packages etc) and then log out and try to log back in.

I've even had an RCI call centre advisor say that I'd have to call back as this message was displaying.

Just wait 20 minutes and try again :)

  7. Thanks for the great review. I'm booked on the cruise departing 11 April and a lot of the recent reviews had me feeling a bit nervous

This will be our 4th RCI cruise and I've always had a great time but was starting to think that the Legend may well be a dud!

It seems that most of the disgruntled reviewers were on the 2 night sampler cruise with a lot of of people complaining about the understaffed bars. The reviews I have read from the longer sailings seem to be much more balanced.

Glad you had a great time, you've made me feel much better! :)

  8. I'm still annoyed but "sucked it up" and have now paid the balance of my cruise ;)

I'm planning on keeping a close eye on the prices over the next three weeks (until such time as my cancellation penalty hits the 25% mark!) [emoji52]

Fingers crossed that there is a Post Christmas sale

I'm thinking that if there is, I might forfeit the deposit and change my cruise (depending on how much $$) I stand to lose

At the moment while my "preferred" cruise is cheaper, I would also lose $300 obc ... Will just have to wait and see!

  9. Or it's possible that OP waited a day or ten before booking -- and everyone before him snagged the full value

    ?

    It's possible!

The fact that cabins are now available is interesting, but it's possible people booked because of the promo and then realized they can't go on the trip and cancelled.?

Again possible, but the cynic in me thinks otherwise! :D

Or if they did I doubt they were from Australia as it would cost them too much in cancellation fees! ;)
