  1. Has anyone experience of hiring an ATV for self tour on St Kitts - Not the guided ATV tours. Interested in doing this on a forthcoming visit, but finding it difficult to find out  whether or not there is a requirement for third party /comprehensive insurance for such a vehicle. Appreiacte any related comments. Thanks

  2. Apologies for delay. Didn't think I would cause so much angst!

No obvious reason for the bucket to topple, my suspicion is that the wine waiter had placed the bottles such that it wasn't well balanced. Thought at one stage the poor assistant waiter was going to get the blame, but he was nowhere near it!

Wine waiter came back with the same bottles filled to the level he considered they had been at. This was considered an inadequate solution by both parties so Restaurant Manager was called. Suggestion made that the bottles should be replaced, however Restaurant Manager said that he couldn't make that decision (somewhat surprised that that was the case). Eventually wine waiter returned with one new bottle -which wasn't the same as either of the original bottles. Offer was made to launder clothing however that was declined.

Felt that two replacement bottles would have been fair, but was starting to get the impression that we might have to get to the captain for that decision to be made!

What I found surprising was that the Restaurant Manager was unable to make a decision over a couple of bottles of average wine at what must be a cost to P&O of probably £10-£12. Surely they make allowance for breakages etc.

  3. What would you consider a fair solution to the following scenario?

On our recent cruise, we were seated on a table for 6, which consisted of two parties of three and got on very well with our dinning companions.

On our next to last night, both parties had open bottles of white wine in the ice bucket. With no one near it and in calm seas, the ice bucket fell over spilling the contents of the ice bucket and bottles. No other real damage done other than a wet floor and some wet skirts (fortunately wasn't red wine).

For those that may be interested, I'll post P&Os solution once I've given those that wish to post what would be their solution.

Hint - P&O's solution didn't quite meet what I would have expected, but then maybe I was wrong!

  4. Would be grateful for some help from the forums great and good.

Had cause on recent cruise to cancel a shore excursion whilst on board, The excursion had been booked through Cruise Personaliser before sailing. Cancellation was made more than 48 hrs before the excursion was due to depart. Was informed by the Explorers team that the monies would be refunded in full to the credit card used to book the excursion, however a 10% cancellation would be charged to my onboard account. My grype is that I don't remember whether or not that such a surcharge is stated on CP's T&Cs, and now cannot access my CP as the cruise has been and gone.

I suspect it probably will be buried in the small print somewhere, but won't be clear. I suspect P&O have a nice little earner going here!

  5. Easily 'doable' providing your port hours are the same as ours were last October. Docked shortly after 8 on a Sunday. One of the first off, taxi to the train station, bit of a wait, but I see Renfe train timetable has trains on a Sunday at about 9:45 which sounds about right. Fast train to Santiago de Compostella. Time to walk from station up hill to Cathedral. Caught midday mass which although crowded was worth seeing the swinging incense burner. Time to look around to catch train back, got train last but one which would get us back before ship sailed, so we're back with enough time(probably around 3pm) to walk from station to port for a sail away about 4pm if I remember correctly. Check out train times and prices on Renfe website. Think the taxi may have been about 10 euros, but others may have better memory than mine!

  6. Have done this a few times and it is quite do-able with careful planning.

The issue is caused by P&O chartering the flights but that keeps the cost down. For example I saw a Celebrity Caribbean cruise I liked for next year last week and got a quote including flight and the flights added £700 each to the cost which made it dearer than P&O.

The other point we have found is that they don't check the weight very strictly at the airport and one check in told us they allow a couple of kilos over anyway for the cruise charters and they don't seem to check hand luggage too carefully. Think it is best to use smallish hand luggage bags not to attract attention but then put heavy things in them (like shoes). We have been a bit over at times but haven't been pulled up for it.

Cannot have been at Manchester Airport. Check-in "lady" had us taking 0.8 Kg out of a case for a cruise flight at the counter to get down to 23 Kgs. Sad thing was that it was the second case onto the belt and the first case had disappeared so couldn't adjust weight between the cases.

Ultimately what came out of the case went on the hand luggage!... Enough said!
