I generally appreciate it when stewards, waiters and bartenders remember my name.

It amazes me that after a year of sailing only ships from the West Coast, I can be sailing out of Port Canaveral a year later and as I step over the gangway somewhere ahead of me, I hear a crew member call out my name in greeting before I have even laid eyes on them.

I have always assumed the performers at crew talent shows are volunteers,  or at worst they receive some incentive for performing rather than working.

That's my point, when we went it wasn't like a good ol' Crew Talent Show Night when they would volunteer to perform. This was just a parade of flags with the CD reciting a scripted Carnival focused spiel.

Thanks for the detail. I don't think I work the crew too hard, but doesn't everyone say that? 😁

Seriously though, I do think Carnival asks the crew to do too much at times. Telling an oiler in the engine room after their shift they have to parade around on stage in the main lounge in front of guests, for example.

The soft serve definitely isn't ice cream, and doesn't look or taste like ice cream either.

Look at the picture below; it's "dessert mix," not even allowed to be called ice cream.  The first 3 ingredientes are water, corn syrup, and oíl, and all the daily ingredients are powdered.

Did you read what I wrote when I posted the photos? " Both versions are frozen dessert products "

I know for sure Horizon has it. Recently been on more HAL than Carnival so I can't say 100% if it's fleet wide. But I was thinking it was.

The gelato is only served on the Vista Class ships built for the North American market: Vista, Horizon and Panorama.

I’m about 50/50 on MDR v buffet, but I must admit that the served meal shown above is a little underwhelming and doesn’t scream Thanksgiving Feast. Imma need a little more on my plate. 😂

You're right about the poor presentation of the colorless plate and foods scooped with an ice cream scoop remind me of my dull high school cafeteria lunches in the 70s.

That buffet Turkey looks amazing! Yum!

It really is and when we take the grandkids we all dress nicely before dinner for our family photos with the ship photographer. Then we surprise the kids by letting them know they can change into their comfortable clothes and join everyone at the buffet 🙂

    We sailed last thanksgiving.

This was our meal. I do know there were complaints on other ships about the meal. It may have been that they ran low and meals didn’t have as much.

They must be watching their food cost serving that smidgen of Ocean Spray Cranberry Sauce 🙂  We prefer our Carnival Turkey Day at the buffet where we can practically taste the bird with our eyes and request dark or white meat or both. The pressed turkey served in the MDR doesn't compare.

You can indicate that you don't want to be seated with other guests at the time you check in with the Hub app

We've seen that on the app and we asked about it and the maitre d' said it means "are you willing to sit at a shared table with others (like traditional seating) in order to be seated sooner."

The desserts looked fabulous, but the taste did not match up. Make less, but make them taste better.

This is true with one exception: the FunFetti cheesecake served on embark day in the lido buffet on some, but not all, Carnival ships has a center layer of real cheesecake that has an exceptional sugary goodness to it. Later in the week, the buffet includes fake "cheesecake" that gelatin has been added to it to cut down on the amount of cream cheese used to save on food cost. We never touch those because the "cheesecake" bounces to the touch and there's never a jiggle to good cheesecake until it lands on the hips 🙂 Which Ships Serve Funfetti Cheesecake? - Carnival Cruise Lines - Cruise Critic Community

Our visit to the Steakhouse on Carnival Miracle last month was wonderful. No complaints about food or service. Even the cheesecake is now right-sized. No, it wasn't my birthday, but seemed disappointed that we weren't celebrating anything so I said it was my birthday. They even threw in a couple of glasses of champagne.

We had a short cruise on Regal Empress (Imperial Majesty Cruise Line) many years ago. That's really the only time I felt hungry much of the time. Ordering room service, you had to order 2-3 sandwiches in order to have enough meat for 1. The main feature at the buffet was little smokies.

Oh, and you could only double your 9-10-11 in Blackjack to top it all off... LOL

When it was time to fill out the customs form, I had to go to guest services to use one of their pens. She handed me one, and told me she'd need it back (heck, it might have been the only one onboard)!!

I hated that cruise -- and was thrilled when they scrapped that ship!

We gave up looking for a pen and used the Lil Smokies 🙂

Head chef said melted ice cream. I imagine steak is same way- well if we back the cow in it is strip if we turn it around you will get a flat iron steak Just kidding.

Sorry you are struggling to find correct information from the food management on board. Every time we have sailed Radiance, 4 so far, there has been a different Executive Chef. Maybe our fifth Chef will know when the Flat Iron Steak is arriving but your story tells me they most likely will not.

  14. Last month John Heald said the Radiance would be serving a Flat Iron Steak which was replacing the tough strip loin steak on the every day section of the MDR menu. From your menu photos it doesn't look like that happened.

Thank you for sharing your cruise with us. We sail Radiance October 30th for the fifth time.

    John Heald

Thank you, I can confirm that it will be arriving to that ship before the end of this month. Thank you mate
