  1. I don't know if this will help anyone on this thread, but our cruise stopped in Puerto Chacabuco this past January, and I can give you our experience. I had read that its important to get off the ship asap if you want a private tour. Based on the info I had, we caught one of the first tenders, and our group of 8 walked up the short hill from the tender pier to the store where we found at least 20 cab and van operators offering their vehicles for private tours. They all offered basically the same tour....3-4 hours into Simpson Valley, with stops at scenic locations including Bride's Veil Cascade, the suspension bridge, an ancient but scenic wooden bridge, etc. All the operators had signs explaining their services. None spoke very good English, but as long as they would get us to the highlights, it didn't really matter that much....I can get details on what we saw online. We had no problem finding a van operator for our group of 8....and we had a driver and a "guide"....again, neither could speak much English. I think we paid roughly $35US pp.

    Hope that helps,

    Sam

Thanks, I think we will try that, we are also a group of 8 pax.

  2. We were also "stranded" on the island and know a lot of the penguins by name, it was a very long day. I agree entirely that NCL did all they could for us.They were very generous, and it really was not their fault.

We really enjoyed the cruise and met a few new friends. Do you remember the Mississippi tug boat Captain on our tour? He suggest we all move to stern of the ferry or get off while they tried to get the ferry re floated. It would have worked in the beginning but as it was a falling tide and time was of the essence. We were all very happy to see the NCL Sun had waited for us. I am happy it was not a private tour.

Which port do you talk about?

I will be on the Sun January 2017 BA to Santiago and I prefer private excursion but maybe for this port I will take the ship tour, you make me nervous...

  3. As I mentioned above, the Blue Line Alilaguna stops at most 50 feet from the front door of the hotel. Couldn't be much easier. The Blue Line also goes to the main cruise ship terminal...the next stop after the Hilton.

The hotel provides a free water shuttle to couple of locations on the main Venice Island. Very nice place.

Many thanks CruiserBruce. It will be the Hilton. :):):):)

There are literally dozens (maybe more then a hundred) various places near various Vaporetto and Aililagna stops. Since you have given no price range, part of Venice you prefer, etc. its really hard to make a recommendation. But keep in mind that taking large luggage on a crowded Vaporetto is not everyone's idea of fun. The few hotels in the Piazale Roma (i.e. Santa Chiara, Ca Doge, etc) are certainly the most convenient since you can simply take the inexpensive ATVO express bus from the airport to the P. Roma. If you want to use vaporettos to get to any hotel you would first have to go to the P. Roma (from the airport) to even access a vaporetto stop. There is an Alilaguna Line (Blu) that does go from the airport to a few Venice stops without having to change boats.

Thank you everybody. The list map is helping. We will arrive at the Airport. Now we hesitate between 2 hotels. Very different places for both. The Hilton Molino (is the Alilaguna stop near this hotel?) and The Rialto. The Hilton is very far but if the Alilaguna stop near for the luggage transport we wil opt for this one.

The Rialto, it is his location that makes me hesitate... Could you help me with this?

In fact, i don't want to take the vaporetto with luggages. I want the one closest to the Alilaguna bus stop... But my heart goes with the Rialto.

Last question : to go to the port to take the HAL ship, what should we take? A taxi bus? (Always remember "the luggage thing")?

  5. I have old friends who will take a cruise with Princess on May 2nd.

Their friends told them that the should stay near the port because the traffic is very huge to go to the San Pedro port on Saturday.

    They will stay 3 nights.

They want a very nice hotel, and very clean one. They don't want to rent a car. They want to visit by taxi or tour that hotel offer or HOHO bus, but something safe.

I told them that I will ask on the board and hope that I could help them with that.

What is the best that I could recommend them?

    Charlot (French speaker...)

  6. Here is a tour guide that was recommended on another thread or review: Diana Persi, email dianatoursinrio@yahoo.com. Her website is http://www.tourguideinbrazil.com I'm not using her because I only have half a day in Rio, but she was very responsive to emails.

    Hi Boulders,

    Thank you for your suggestion.

Can I ask you something.... Diana and me had many emails for this tour. She seemed very nice but she ask me to pay a deposit with paypal and I am not sure that her way to do it is ok... how did you pay your excursion?

  7. Hi, we are looking for a private tour in Rio. Probably this subject had been discuss early but we just book and since we are going back to Canada the same day (plane at 11pm) and the tour with Holland are sold out, we will have all our luggage with us.

So we are looking for a private tour who can take care of our luggage all the day while we will visit Sugar Loaf and Corcovado.

Do you know a great and secure private tour?

I have asked to Rafael Torress but had a partial answer, since not heard again from him. Then I asked Manu Peclat but there are no places for this days.

Do you know other doing private tour in RIO?

    Many Thanks for your help.

  8. Here is a thread which indicates that mixed drinks above $8.5 are not included. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1845628 This is different from NCLs website which indicates that cocktails are capped based on whether they go into superpremium or not..... http://www.ncl.com/sites/default/files/Ultimate-Beverage-Package-051013.pdf

I don't know if that is generous or not as I don't know what mixed drinks cost. But if margaritas, mai tais, and martinis and the like are not included, then that is really a bummer. Plus it doesn't make sense if wine goes to 10.

I wish that NCL improve his UBP. If we are thinking of the same package with Celebrity (a little more expensive 55$), almost every kind of drink is included. All Martinis, coffee (expresso, capuccino, Irish, Spanish with alcool), glass of wine up to 12$, etc.

NCL could offer 2 package, one with everything at 55$ and a classic one (like Celebrity does) at 49$...

I know that I won't buy it for my 9 days in Baltic Sea, it is not worth the money for us. icon9.gif
