  1. I was disappointed as well at the lack of Creamed Spinach. What kind of steakhouse doesnt have it? They use spinach on the Oysters Rockefeller......which are not as good as they used to be and they went from 6 oysters and are now down to 3! I love the PH on the Gem.

We will be able to bid on upgrades on Thursday for Getaway March 10 cruise. Have paid for midship mini-suite so far. Looking at a few categories of Haven suites, not sure which is best for us. The aft penthouse has the largest rooms and balconies but is so far away from the Haven area. The forward facing suites are second largest with small balcony. My question on them is do you actually get a balcony or just a sliding window? Since they face into the wind, is that an issue? Also, only decks 9-11 are available for sale now, so they are also several decks from Haven area. The Spa and courtyard suites seem to be convenient, since they are adjacent or inside the Haven complex. But those cabins are the smallest.I have seen recommendations on all four categories so am unsure as to which is best.

Our last cruise was on HAL and got upgrade to a Neptune suite which was just down the hall from the Neptune club lounge. HELP PLEASE.

PS - we are part of a group block that are all on deck 11 mini-suites. But we are ok with moving if we get a great deal.

We like being forward.  Its a walk to go aft to Haven but it just takes 5 minutes and its our exercise (also going back to the room to get more money for the casino) to burn off those meals snacks and drinks! Its a great cabin for 2 people IMHO

We are taking a cruise on December 30. Although we are going to the Caribbean, I'm guessing it will start out and end up cold, out of New Orleans. So, how do you dress? Do you bring some fall type clothes and sweats to walk on deck...? Thank you

I have the clothes I came in for the first day and disembarkation, a sweater and 1 long sleeve top. Thats all I have thats not hot weather clothes and I sail every winter and never freeze  :classic_biggrin: But I also stay away from the outside deck 1 day each way.

Thought I would chime in for those who like to speculate as to the bidding process and how it is calculated, since I am a bit of an outlier go the norm I would think. I have cruised before but only once, and not with NCL. I booked my "free" cruise with standard stateroom via a game/app casino program, not really through NCLs casino program. My host within that game (again, not NCL) comped me the taxes, port fees, admin fees, the drink package, the gratuities for the drink package, and the travel insurance. She also helped vet me uograde from standard inside to a midship balcony.

Now at this point I booked through an am outside casino program and haven't actually spent a single cent of money on this cruise. A few days after my booking was made I did get an email offering me the chance bid on upgrades to suite and haven level rooms. I bid the absolute minimum on the penthouse suite, the family suite, the haven penthouse suite, and the haven two family villa. Minimum possible bid on all (something like $500 for the suites and $1000 for the Haven were minimums). My bid never budged from the poor range.

I said this Saturday and on Monday was when my bids turned from all pending to expired with one bid showing as processing. A couple hours later I got the confirmation and my room #. I won my bid for the Haven two bedroom family villa.

Despite the fact that I have no devising history with NCL, didn't actually spend any of my own, money on s thing except the bidding. I didn't have anything booked in terms of dining or excursions, and money outside of the whim of bidding. The only items besides the uograde being paid were comped o me through another program.

I myself don't have any conclusions. I just wondered how my own details would tie into the bidding speculation since it largely seems like people feel it is based off of spending and past activity and spending with NCL, etc. Someone without any spending history with NCL, not even spending money to book a room or uograde to balcony. Does big but bids the minimum allowed. And wins the most expensive Haven suite she bid on.

I am by NO means complaining, mind you! i booked the trip as a christmas gift for my saint of a hardworking mother who spends her life working night shift at a hospital and hasnt take a vacation for over a decade. I am doing everything I can to pamper and spoil my mama in every way I can find. Of course the surprise of winning the haven uograde bid means there went all of my money😂 I guess the specialty dining and massage we will have to manage without lol

May I ask what ship? Congrats and enjoy!!

For those who have been Haven guests on The Gem and on larger ships in the Breakaway class, do you feel it is worth staying in The Haven on The Gem? The price is hefty and there's no restaurant (for dinner), no bar (it seems).  Both of these things were quite nice in The Haven on The Breakaway. Also, there's a tiny pool area. Part of the perks was having some of these things. I'm reconsidering after learning some of this. May be a dealbreaker? Opinions would be very helpful.

Haven isnt necessary-we get a non Haven Penthouse which gives you all perks except actual entry in the Haven Area. We just got back from cruise in 10664 and it was great!
