Lots of ideas if you are interested in Do It Yourself (DIY).  If you plan on staying in Cannes then you can explore on foot and also use the "Petit Train de Cannes" which is a little faux train that can let you ride around town seeing various places and neighborhoods.  For those who are mobile, it is possible to walk just about anywhere of interest with the city.

But Cannes is also an excellent "gateway" port that gives folks access to the major French Riviera region.  There is a regional train line (almost like a commuter train) that spans the coast (with a stop at Cannes) that can take you to places like Antibes, Nice and Monte Carlo.  The trains usually run about twice an hour (no reservations).  There are other options not on the train line such as St Paul de Vence (a favorite place of ours) which is also near the Maeght Fondation (a contemporary art museum with some weird stuff by Jean Miro).

And yes, Cannes is a tender port with the tender pier being located on the edge of the city in the Vieux Port (Old Port).

    Hi Hank!

Is the train station at a walkable distance from the tender port?

    thanks

  2. Hi,

my husband and I will be in Cannes with our cruise. We don't want to do an excursion. We are thinking to walk around in Cannes. Should we also go in Nice ? Spend half of day in Nice then the other half of day in Cannes? How much time is the ride in train between the 2 cities?

    Thanks for your help!

There are numerous hotels there, but without knowing how much you want to spend it's difficult to know what to recommend. The Danieli, for instance, is about $800 USD per night right now, but there are certainly cheaper options.

800 $ per night! Too expensive for me

  4. I will be in Aruba for a long day. We usually like to rent a car or a jeep to do a tour of islands we go. I read somewhere some people renting a Side by Side for the day. Any experiences ? Where to rent it ? Thanks for your help!

  5. We rented a moke from Stoutes a few years back and it was no problem. We wanted to do a self-directed island tour and it was great. As I recall they were a little late opening up but it's their island so we waited a little while.

The moke was fun, like the Flintstone car only with an engine and a floor. One recommendation: get a good map. We could navigate in the countryside just fine. The roads are well marked and in very good shape. The streets in Bridgetown are crazy. We could see the ship but had a heck of a time getting to the ship. Don't miss Bathsheba.

To the best of my knowledge Stoutes isn't at the Cruise terminal anymore, they left a couple of years ago.

They have two offices now, one at the airport and one over in St. Philip. Also, from what I understand they won't bring a car to the cruise terminal either.

I don't know who has an office at the cruise terminal, but it is possible that you'll have to go to Bridgetown for a hire.

Hopefully another cruiser will come forward for you with some good news before your holiday in January.

    Good luck!

Oh really? I though I read they were bringing car a cruise terminal! I will have to double check with them. Anyone knows?
