  1. We know when the Adonia is refurbished to become the Pursuit, Azamara will not be putting back the casino. The Adonia does not have one now (we sailed on her twice recently as a Fathom ship). But it did have one years ago when she sailed as the Royal Princess (we took her up the Amazon in '08). Pity, as my wife enjoys dabbling in the casino -- it's entertainment!

There's been some chatter on CruiseCritic that when the Journey and Quest next go in for refurbishment, that Azamara will be taking out the casinos on them, as well. At least the table games, if not everything (incl. slots). Can you comment on this?

[5 times on Azamara & booked on Quest's transatlantic in April]

I was on Fathom as well. (Actually the first cruise....which included a few problems with the engine) She was very tired looking at the time so a major facelift will be necessary. If I understand correctly... as of now...Azamara has only changed the casino on the Journey. I will be on the April crossing as well. See you then.

  2. I was not on your cruise but what you experienced seems very similar to my experience on a Fathom cruise to Cuba. We wanted to be one of the first and paid a premium for it. There were so many travel agents and head office staff on board that paid almost nothing for the cruise yet received preferential treatment. They had complimentary wine pairings, specialty dining, wine and paint etc. The tours were not as advertised and I felt like we had to do a lot of the leg work to experience what we wanted to experience. At those prices, everything should have been perfect or at least close to 90%. It was far from it.

We had great expectations ...but were not given recognition as a full premium fare paying customer. Instead they focused on the media/travel agents and home office staff.

It sounds just like my Fathom cruise. I was one of the only full paying aboard as well. To add insult to injury, we never made it to Santiago de Cuba. The ship broke down out of Miami. We went back in the middle of the night, got repaired, and headed back out. I must admit that the tours I took in Havana through the cruise line were wonderful in both ports. I am hoping that some cruise line will pick up the slack and stop in more ports.

  3. I was an ordinary passenger on this cruise. I have sailed on AZ many times and found this cruise totally geared towards the brass from Miami and the top paying guests. In addition, the group of doctors had no idea what was going on. There was also a group from the Philippines who were very disruptive on deck, in the hallways and on excursions. This will not keep me from sailing again but....I'll stick to the sailings for us mere mortals.

  4. Fathom goes to 3 ports...Havana, Cienfuegos and Santiago de Cuba. They also include full day excursions including lunch in each port.

I am not here to push this cruise line but I want to be fair in my review. My heart belongs to Azamara (I've been sailing with them from the beginning and have 2 future cruises already booked) and I am hoping they will include Cuban ports of call in the near future.

  5. Yes, I did sail on Fathom. That is why I know it's perfect for Azamara (I've been sailing with them since they started). Yes, the reviews for Fathom were mixed but, I believe, it was more about the ship experience than Cuba. The ship is manned by all P&O personnel who have it down pat! It's the Fathom end that is having growing pains. As I said before, they have a new terminal set up right in the center of Havana with money exchange booths right there. Big ships going there, in my opinion, will be a disaster. If you are interested in any other information I would be more than happy to have a personal conversation with you.

  6. Having just returned from Cuba I am begging Azamara to look into sailing there. Small ships dock right in the heart of Havana. The tour operators there do a fabulous job. They have big modern air conditioned buses that meet the groups right outside the terminal exit. It's a perfect fit for Azamara and a sea day from Miami. PLEASE look into it.

  7. After having sailed on Azamara many times I tried Oceania last year. There was nothing wrong with the cruise but it does not compare to the Azamara experience. I sailed the Regatta, same "R" ship as Azamara's. There was no enthusiasm from any of the crew. They did their jobs well without any heart or soul. There cruise director is rarely visible. They introduce the entertainment and then disappear. They are missing that special something that you only find on Azamara!!

  8. I just finished making a complicated reservation with Choice Air. The gentleman, Peter Cayetyna, with whom I spoke was terrific. He was extremely knowledgable. He put together a perfect combination of flights and even saved me a few dollars! I really wish that the staff in Guatemala was as good. Maybe reservations should be moved to the Philippines with Choice Air!!

  9. Out of the blue my TA called to tell me that I had been upgraded from an outside to a balcony on deck 8. My immediate reply was "shouldn't they have asked first?" There was no way that I wanted to be where they placed me. I told my travel agent to find another cabin. The long and short of it is that they had already sold my outside cabin. I found another available cabin on their website and told my agent to make it happen. Azamara...Please do not ASSUME anything! On top of that I spent too much time yesterday trying to find out about my transfer from the airport in Istanbul to the ship. I was put on hold 3 times to find the answer. The call center in Guatamala is an embarrassment to the cruise line!!!! I never got an accurate answer.
