    Hi All!

Have been looking at the reviews and comments for the Star and noticing quite a few mentions of ceiling water leaks and visible mold.  Has this been your experience?  Anything you can offer on your recent Star experience would be much appreciated.  Thank you.

Just got off the Star 2 days ago. I did see a few ceiling leaks which I attributed to condensation from the AC. I did not see any mold anywhere and the ship is in reasonable shape for one going into drydock a in afew weeks. Could use a paint job however:-)

I was on the Star in October, and at that time there was still a Library. It was combined with the computer lounge which was on Deck 5, behind the Piazza. Just head in, and the books are on shelves at the back of the room.

There is a library of sorts. I has a VERY small selection, but we did find a couple of books to keep us occupied - and yes it is in the computer room.

Just got back from this wonderful trip on the Star Princess.

There was EXTENSIVE screening. We had to fill out a form; Have you been to China recently, Y or N ? Do you have a cough, Y or N ? Do you have a temperature, Y or N ? No, no, no??? Okay, get onboard....

I thought when they took our pictures on embarkation with that (new to me) system that they were taking our temps. Nope. However I was assured that no one could circumvent the dreaded Yes / No grilling!

Ummmm, no, Nbist and I disembarked less than 2 weeks ago, and we’re just trying to be helpful.

Just to clarify, I do appreciate the input - thank you!

My reference to the month ago period was based on the fact that your cruise ended 2 weeks ago but began about a month ago. And based on what Nbist wrote....

"We were recently on this cruise. There were a large number of Asian passengers. Where they were from, China, Japan, US,  I have no clue. I also noticed more crew members from China on this cruise, including 1 who told us he had "just arrived for his first contract".

....and my understanding is that the incubation period is about 14 days,  so there would appear to be no outbreak onboard with crew or current pax.

So, as I left for work today I see the suitcases on the bed and ready to be filled today. We leave tomorrow and as Rear Admiral Farragut said, "Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead" 🙂

    Sincere thanks!

If I were going to embark during this current outbreak I would ask the corporate office if passengers (or crew) who have traveled through China or Hong Kong in the past 2 weeks are going to be allowed to board the ship in LA. With that information you would be better able to evaluate the potential risk and make the best decision for you.

Trying to think about this logically,  you're not on the Star right now, so the earliest you could have been on it would be about a month ago, and since there is no reports of sickness that I am aware of means the staff are well.

Now I have to believe that Princess is well aware of the potential damage in terms of dollars and reputation should there be another Diamond incident. So I have to have faith that they will be extra dilligent in screening all persons coming board now.

Oh great! We were just getting settled about going on this ......

I do believe I heard that all people from Asia, or having been to China, Hong Kong, etc the last 15 to 30 days are either being refused boarding, or receive extra health screening. Can anyone confirm this?

If Princess doesn't cancel, I would go.  We were on this same cruise for Thanksgiving.  Some people on board had what I call "the cruise cough."  If you have no worries about getting sick by all means go.  I never plan on getting sick either, but 2 days before getting back into port, I started getting the dreaded cough.  The woman in the cabin next to us from the day she boarded the ship until she debarked, she hacked, coughed, and barfed the whole 14 days.  Did our cabin steward bring her creeping crud over to our cabin?  Despite washing my hands constantly, it wasn't enough.  I was laid up for a month after we got home.  Worse creeping crud I ever had and got it on the ship.

We already planned an upcoming Alaskan cruise in May, like you, we would like to cancel.  We have trip insurance and cancel for any reason.  DH and I decided that this will probably be our last cruise on any ship.  We no longer find it relaxing and fun like we did in the past.  50 cruises for us is enough, we're done.

I know how you feel. We have a trans-Atlantic from Barcelona to Ft. Lauderdale for November booked and I am for the first time ever starting to think about land based holidays. After 50 cruises the industry has changed so much that sometime all the fun has gone about of it.

Just wanted to clarify the statement regarding # of cases tripling overnight.

There were originally 273 PAX identified to be at risk of infection due to their contact or proximity to the original patient. Of these 273 they have finally received all the test results back. The reason the numbers climbed like they did simply reflects when a batch of test came back. There are no known new transmissions of the virus onboard.

Princess acted swiftly and has handled this extremely well in my view. I will happily join the Grand on March 7 and go to Hawaii.

Good to know. Thanks for the clarification.

    I agree!!

I would think the OP is not the only one considering canceling their sailing.  I bet that several balcony rooms will open up, ones that Princess would need to fill in a short period of time.

Maybe you missed my post from a few minutes ago, but I did call and as of yesterday afternoon they were 100% booked. I'm not saying that it won't change however in the next couple of days.

  10. Sorry for the delay in getting back folks. We have rotating teacher strikes going on here and we have one of our grand daughters with us.

After checking to see if there was any possibility of canceling without a major hit, we were told NO. We asked if we could postpone the trip or receive a credit. Again NO.

We asked if there were any outside cabins available. Once again NO. The ship is apparently 100% booked.

Looking at  the stats this morning as to the location of the infected persons, it turns out that 99% are in China, The other 1% are spread around the world. So, we have decided to go on the cruise and enjoy ourselves. Should Princess make any changes such as cancelling the cruise, I would still be fine with that.

I sure feel for those on the Diamond. It has been reported that the number of confirmed cases on the ship tripled overnight from 20 to 61. I am not a medical professional but I really wonder if it is wise to keep the pax on the ship. Surely this can't be helping the situation. I can't imagine what they are going to have to do to ensure that ship is 100% decontaminated before the next pax get on, whenever that is.

    Thanks for the input folks.

  11. After 50 cruises on many lines I find myself for the very first time actually hoping they cancel our cruise due to the potential quarantine issue.

Even though we are probably in the most likely age group (65) to be infected, I have no worries about getting sick. I do however have a great fear of someone else getting sick and the ship being quarantined with us locked in our INSIDE cabin for 2 weeks.

Our cruise leaves Los Angeles for Hawaii in 6 days and I have no cancelation insurance, so it would be a 100% loss for us.

Has anyone else canceled on this cruise or considering it?

Has anyone heard of any potential no-charge cancelling policies from Princess for upcoming cruises other than the ones in Asia already announced?
