I have used my MacBook Pro (2013 model and 2018) on board since 2014 before that I used windows laptops.  I am 99.99% certain that using a Mac will work.  As will using an Ipad or Iphone or Android, etc.  There are computers on board, but I can’t imagine spending for Voom when you are going to use the public computers.  The nice thing with having your own device is you can connect while in your cabin or elsewhere on the ship.

Thanks for the heads up.  Guess RC needs to update that.  Either way, we decided to just unplug.  To hell with work stuff!  I’ll just suffer when I get home!

  2. we purchased the key for our Indy cruise tomorrow. Since we get VOOM access, can I use the computers on the ship instead of lugging around my laptop?  Will I have to pay the $0.75/minute or am I covered since I have the key.  Also as I understand it, it has to have windows OS, which we don't have on our mac.  Basically trying to figure out if I need to warn my partners to keep an eye on my desktop.

I haven’t gotten the flu since i retired from the military as i refuse the flu shot. My point is that there are precautions we can all take which decrease our odds of getting sick. Im sorry if you didnt understand my point. 16 years retired and trying my best to remain healthy, active without listening to “big Pharma”.

Just gonna leave this here, from the cdc.

No to be confrontational, but you are giving bad advice.  Flu shot is a killed vaccine (unless you get the nasal mist form - which is not available every year). So you cannot catch flu from the flu shot, even if you are immunosuppressed.  Therefore, I can confidently say you did not get flu from the flu shot even in 2001.  You coincidentally contracted a viral illness, maybe even it was flu, after you had the flu shot.

During winter cruise season, it is terrible advice to tell people not to get the flu shot.  Some immunity is better than no immunity. A 20% chance of protection is better than 0% chance.  Furthermore, it reduces deaths, hospitalizations, serious complications (IE respiratory failure from flu), and provides benefit to the community due to herd immunity (like in a cruise ship setting).  A few studies have shown a cumulative effect of flu vaccines. That is, the more you have, the less likely you are to have complications from flu later in life, when your risk is greater.  I think an important point however is the herd immunity - I almost see it as an obligation to the greater public health. At my age and health, I am at low risk of complications, but the young and the elderly are at higher risk. If the population is better vaccinated, there are fewer susceptible individuals, and it is harder for the virus to spread (like the measles mumps outbreaks you see in pockets of anti-vaccinators).

However, to your other points, I do agree with.  Its just that your flu shot advice is flat out wrong.  lastly, it takes about 2 weeks after the vaccine before immunity is achieved, so hope everyone got theirs!

Oh, and BLEACH wipes kill norovirus.

  4. Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I use a Kroger version of Cetaphil and I use Cetaphil lotion. Maybe I'll try the real version of the face wash.

I have used benzyl peroxide and it has irritated my skin. I still use it for really bad pimples.

My acne isn't nearly bad enough to warrant accutane. I get maybe 15 pimples a month. I don't know how bad my acne would have to be to convince me to take accutane because I do not want to go on a hormonal birth control plus all of the side effects that accutane has.

    Thanks again!

without seeing you, but just from your description, I doubt you'd need accutane. If benzyl peroxide is too drying, you may have a rough time with prescription creams, as Differen, benzyl, and all the retinoids are drying. You can get different strengths, and some might not affect you as bad as the benzyl peroxide. Also some of the antibiotics like clindamycin ointment, or oral doxycyline may work well for you. Ask your doc.

  5. Try Cetaphil....my daughter has very sensitive skin...and her dermotologist told her to start using that....it's avail. in any drugstore/wal-mart...

Another vote for cetaphil. I'm actually working in a derm office right now as an elective rotation before I graduate med school.

Cetaphil wash (and lotion) is great stuff. However, nothing OTC will work as well as the stuff you get from the dermatologist. YOu can also look into getting something with Benzyl Peroxide. It is a lotion/gel/cream, and is antibacterial. It can be drying, so you use a small amount. I'm not sure if you can get it over the counter.

When you see the doc, you'll probably get a combo of a benzyl peroxide wash, differin/retin-a product, and possibly some topical/oral antibiotics. The different combos and strengths all depend on how bad your acne is. Accutane is the be-all end-all of acne treatment, but it is teratogenic, and so tightly regulated. We try not to give it to young women. You have to have 2 forms of bc, come in for monthly blood draws, but nothing works better!

    Good luck.
