  1. We are planning a family cruise to the Caribbean, for Sping Break. We will traveling with our 4 children ages 20,18,15,12. Is The eurodam going to be a good fit for our family? We have never sailed on Holland before. But we have been on several other cruises and have sailed with RC, NCL, MSC and Carnival. Just wanted to make sure, that this a ship, that my family can enjoy as well. Any thoughts.

  2. Do you think that your perception of lack of a more personal customer service could have been impacted by the size of your group? 25 is a big number. Maybe a couple or smaller group would have a different perception?

I'm devouring every Getaway review to prepare for my transatlantic next year, thank you for sharing your experience, it helps :-)

I don't think it was the group size that impacted my view on customer service, as most times, it was just my husband and I, and sometimes our kids tagged along with us, and a couple of his sisters went with us to dinner one night, as we knew it would be difficult to get 25 people into a Restaraunt at the same time.

Again, the cruise was fine. Just not overly special. And we are NOT high maintenance. I also am the first to state, that people complain about the stupidest things. I'm not complaining, by all means. Just felt there was little effort made, to make you feel welcomed or special.

Here I will give you an example. On our previous cruise, our waiter found out that my husband liked Indian food. So guess what??? EVERY Night after that, he had the chef, who was Indian, make a special Indian Dish (Curry) on top of our other Entree's for the evening. We were traveling with 2 other couples. And each night, the waiter from would have a special drink ready for us at our table. Our waiter would also inquire how our day was, and treated us like his guest. I agree he went FAR beyond his call of duty. On other cruises, the workers would know my kids by name. It's just the simple things.

Did it keep us from having fun...absolutely not.

  3. So we just returned from a cruise earlier this month. We flew in the day before. And I am so glad we did. There was a 5 hour delay, because of heavy rain storms in Florida. We were stuck in Houston at the airport, along with several other people who were to port out that day. They were frantically on the phone with the cruise ships, trying to let them know their situation. They were beyond irritated with the airline attendants. And it was super sad, as we were flying into the airport around 7 pm that night, to see all the cruise ships, just pulling out of port. Not sure if theirs waited for them or not. Lesson learned... I would never fly in the day of.

  4. Entertainment wise..we LOVED Burn the Floor and Illusionarium was fun. I like Legally Blonde, but the men folk in our group (even those who like theater/plays) were like "shoot me now." :) The Tropicana Roon we found the band/music to be WAY TOO LOUD. There was know way to have a conversation. Even with the person next to you. So I would stay clear of that and Opt for dinning at either Savor or Taste.

  5. We sailed the Getaway on April 3. There are no character sightings or anything special like that for kids. They do have awesome slides and rope courses though. But lacked a place for kids to swim. They have a wading area for babies and then a tiny 3 ft pool for kids. The main pool was for adults only, which my kids thought stunk. No adults were really ever in it. Just dangling their feet. Total waste of a good pool.

  6. Never been on a cruise that I didn't love. Just got back from sailing on the Getaway. Booked 9 months ago (25 of us) and had been waiting in antisipation, everyday since. We fell in LOVE with cruising 7 years ago, when we sailed on the Sky and have taken at least 1 cruise, every year since then. We have sailed with all different Cruise lines, including NCL, Royal, Carnival and MSC. Sailed on Mega ships like the Oasis. To smaller ships like the Sky & Magesty. Like I said, enjoyed everyone. Last year we took some family members, with us for their first time cruising. We sailed on the Royal Caribbean Jewel. We LOVED it! They LOVED it and couldn't wait to book their next cruise. Other family members, saw how much fun it was,and wanted to join. So this year we planned a cruise on the Getaway for 25 of us...ranging from ages 62-2.

Don't get me wrong. It was a great time. But NOTHING special. Nothing like the previous year on RCI or previous years on other before that. The Customer care, just wasn't there. Not poor, but nothing outstanding. room steward not friendly, seemed put out, when asked for help. Food Mediocre in all venues. No real pool for the kids to swim in. Just Ehhh...all around. Most the time, we are sad to say good bye. But this time we just kind of walked away thinking, well that was fun. A bit lack luster love, felt for Norwegian. Will probably be awhile, before we come back.

  7. Guess what??? I paid the same amount for my kids to cruise, as you paid for yourself. It's their vacation too. They can use the Hot Tubs if they want to (my kids range from ages 11-20). Not ADULTS ONLY of course. What the heck??? Enjoy your cruise people. You booked a cruise with THOUSANDS of other passengers. Not your own exclusive bungalow.

  8. We are sailing on the Getaway in 12 days!! Yay! We booked last summer, but I have kept an eye on prices ever since. They seemed to hover around $500 for an inside. But that is for April. As you start heading towards the summer months, the price can go up. Another thing to look at is the Getaway has TONS of Balcony's. At times, I have seen them even cheaper than the inside rooms.

  9. So question for you. We are sailing on the Getaway in 13 DAYS!!! so excited :) anyhow...We are a group of 30 assigned with different check in times. So are they pretty strict on those times, or is it mostly guidance. We will also be sailing with my handicapped sister in law. Are we going to be able to check in early, as well to help her get situated(Does she get priority boarding)She is traveling with another companion (her sister) but they will be using our CC info for their spending account.

  10. Hi all... We are heading to Ocho Rios in just a few weeks, and I have yet to decide what to do. We have already visited Blue Hole on our last trip, and ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT. But we want do something different, this time around. So what are your fave things to do in the Ocho Rios area. There will be 15 of us. Ages ranging from 60 to 10.

  11. My fourteen year old daughter refuses to go on a cruise that will take us back to Nassau. I have been there 4 times (been there, done that type of thing). She has been there twice and had felt more than uncomfortable both times. They do get really pushy, trying to get you in their cab, and then once at the beach(we usually head to Cabbage over on paradise island) they are fighting with each other, where they can drop you off. Then they are fighting over, what part of the beach you can go to. Then they are fighting over, who gets to get you your chairs. Then you are constantly bombarded with buying drugs and Marijuana. As an adult, I can just ignore them. But for my kids it is kind of scary.

  12. So I am trying to get my relatives an upgrade. They have booked inside cabins, but now prices have dropped, where for only $200 more (entire trip) they could get a balcony. Had them call the TA. They said the only way to do so, is to cancel their current reservation, but that would cost them dearly, like 75% or something like that, because we are so close to sailing (April 3). So Pro's, how does one get upgraded?
