It's an inconvenience to me because it shaves two days off the time I have for my US road trip, and will award my dog two more days in captivity aboard the ship's kennels, where I will be with him during the day and so unable to disembark and visit the extra stops.  It will save me money, as the two nights accommodation is paid for and the extra OBC will cover another bottle of wine.  But that's not really the point - all sorts of people have all sorts of plans for and around their crossing, and Cunard appears to have dropped the ball somewhere with its 2014 planning.

I am not into 'the blame game' too many people on that band wagon!

Oh well, so sorry you can't sympathize that  a change in schedule either way can be an inconvenience and that you begrudge Cunard's kind gesture to compensate. We don't have a pet and there is enough time to adjust our other plans but that doesn't mean it isn't disruptive. BTW, we are also going to lose a day on our WB so that evens out, just means a Saturday arrival which is a bit of a pain for onward travel.  Glad Cunard understands that a change to a long-booked journey has unwelcome consequences.

You will however be compensated for the missed day, so you will still be getting a 14 night cruise for the cost of 13 nights plus 2 x $50.

While you think it is okay to put words in my mouth please don't, I NEVER said I begrudge the $50, I have spent a lot on my holiday so doesn't bother me, however I do think (as I actually said) I am surprised by the generosity of Cunard.

Just because EB passengers are given an extra day does not mean that they were not inconvenienced! Leaving on a Saturday instead of Sunday is a bit of a travel hassle for some of us and those with pets may have to incur extra costs to board them.

    Seriously?

I think an extra days travel on board QM 2 PLUS boarding for a dog is not going to make me feel I need to get my hankie out!!

The real question that arises is why did Cunard not confirm their docking schedule with the cruise port before selling these cruises? surely the company and the ship that books first gets the space and it looks like would seem that someone else was awake and moved into what Cunard must have thought was theirs without asking. Terrible example of incompetant management.

Mistakes happen! As a regular using this terminal it could be asked why the admin at Brooklyn didn't clarify with Cunard?

Oh and this does have an impact on me as I am travelling to NY on QM 2 from Southampton on 9th June 24 and have received the notification from Cunard.

I have to admit I am surprised at the generosity of Cunard in making the $50 payment to those on the EB cruise, they have been given an extra day so why should they be given an extra $50 OBC?

When you go into manage your reservation there is a way to do but I’d advise not to! Get Celebrity to do it for you as each time I’ve done it manually there is a crazy glitch that reprices the cruise!

But yes they can separate (I travel with my mum) and even if they are initially together the stateroom attendant will separate them the first evening.

    Thanks for that Wendy.

I will tell you all I know. This was a friend of a friend. The husband was vaccinated. The wife and child were not. The wife and child were not exposed to anyone except the husband. The wife and child got Covid. So they tested the husband and lo and behold he tested positive even though he had no symptoms.

I think you ought to research the vaccine a little more. While it does give you protection from the virus it is not 100% BUT it reduces the chances of death or serious symptoms.

I wish people generally knew facts before they posted misinformation.

This is not aimed at you specifically but generally people just don't know the full facts and as they say a little knowledge is a dangerous thing.

If you had 4 people in a room and only 2 had been vaccinated it would obviously obviously be less effective than if all 4 had been vaccinated.

All this is just common sense, basic common sense.

Those who refuse might have a medical reason to not get a vaccination.  The consequences should be that they might get covid-19, not an external punishment.  The consequences should not be no travel.

I am getting pretty frustrated by this argument apart from pregnancy please tell me the medical conditions that prevent the injection?

Even if that is the case that still isn't a reason to falsify documents I am sure there would be exceptions if that was the case.

  8. People have the right to choose, I have always believed that.

Along with that choice there are consequences.

I have had both of my vaccines, AstraZeneca and have done so firstly to protect myself and secondly to stop the spread.

Those who refuse the vaccine obviously don't care if they, even in a small way, spread the virus. That is their choice but they have to face the consequences and that may mean no travel.

If they then try and falsify the fact they haven't had the vaccine should face serious consequences IMHO.

  9. I am sure this question has been asked before and I apologise for that.

My friend (just friend) are hoping to do a trip on the Rocky Mountaineer and then a cruise around Alaska (Covid permitting) in 2022

One of the quotes we have been given includes the price for an Aqua class cabin, on looking into this it only mentions king size beds nothing about twin beds, is this available in Aqua class cabins?

    TIA.

  10. Just an extra - the D deck cabins have baths, the C deck cabins just a shower.

It has got to be done!!

After getting my post op brain around what John was trying to tell me (I am still not 100% ;p )

The cabin itself in a superior deluxe balcony is bigger than the average balcony cabins (they also have a bath)

The balcony is slightly smaller than those on C deck (Ventura) and fully exposed while the C deck ones are half covered and half exposed.

The superior deluxe balconies are slightly bigger than the normal balconies.

So if inside space and a bath are important the superior deluxe cabin.

If outside balcony space and being part in shade are important then go for C deck balconies.

I think my head may explode and I need a lie down - you can tell I am new (well nearly new) at this!!

  11. I understand that, Eglesbrech and that's why I said regular cruisers tick the no upgrades box but first-time cruisers have different expectations. Like you I think P&O should spell it out but not sure how they can do this. The term 'upgrade' suggests something better not just the same cabin along the corridor. I post on FB too and there are so many posts from new cruisers asking what the chances are of an upgrade thinking they're all going to end up in a suite, which as you and I know is highly unlikely!

Or travel agents make mistakes :loudcry::loudcry: luckily eventually all sorted.

  12. I was just joking with a hypothetical question. If we were in this situation I think the best plan is to agree with your friend that every time we saw the cabin steward, repeatedly tell him the other person had the drinks. It would surely drive the steward to despair and I think he may remove the whole stock as a force majeure.

    Lol John

:D I would be worried if they did know, I would be looking around for cameras.

We once stayed in a posh hotel nr Heathrow airport and on check out they tried to charged us for a bottle of wine we didn't have.

Apparently the mini bar had sensors and as we moved the bottle to put our own in it registered we had drunk it. Needless to say my friend (also ex job) and I were not charged #watchoutformidablewomen

    :D:D

  13. Be aware that if you are planning to book this type of cabin with children that the 3rd and 4th beds are a double sofa bed and unsuitable (for example) a 14 year old girl and a 15 year old boy.

Once you are on the ship P&O cannot offer a solution as the "cot beds" are no longer allowed for in cabin after an accident in rough seas last year. So the adults must sleep on the sofa bed while the youths get the "proper" twin beds.

Thanks but it is just the 2 of us wanting the bed in twin configuration.

  14. We were on Ventura earlier this month in a D Deck balcony cabin located half way between the forward and midships staircases and felt it was an ideal location. The cabin was more spacious than the standard balcony cabins with a 3 seater sofa in the 'lounge' area, 2 televisions so you could watch either from the sofa or the bed. Plenty of shelf space as well for all the odds and ends.

The bathroom has shower over bath and makes the bathroom slightly more spacious than when there is only a shower. The wardrobe/dressing area does afford some privacy if required and has a shelved cupboard and 'wardrobe' which is just a hanging area without doors but it is full height so no problem with long dresses. We found there was more than enough shelving in the cupboard for other clothes and sundries.

We liked the slightly bigger size of balcony and didn't find the fact it was overlooked a problem at all. As someone else has said it is nice to look straight down to the sea rather than onto someone's balcony. Overall we loved the cabin and would definitely choose it again.

Sorry if I have prattled on rather a lot.

    Ann

Not prattled on - all very informative.

We are a bit restricted on what cabin to have as it is only 3 months to the cruise, I agree the superior cabin looks fab! I just want some peace and quiet so I can continue to get well.

  15. On my last 35 nighter, this year, I had the fridge stock removed upon boarding by the cabin steward and I restocked with my own preferences for the rest of the cruise. He placed it in "his box" under the bed. Not an issue throughout....... Enjoy.

Sent from my iPad using Forums

    That's what I was hoping.

  16. What I wonder about is if you share a cabin with a friend and have different credit cards - who pays? how does the cruise line know who had what?

    Regards John

I think you and your friend will have to keep a separate account and work it out together as P & O won't know who drinks what.

My friend and I (friends for over 30 years) have a 'kitty card'. Either an extra one of mine or hers and everything is charged to that, over a holiday it usually evens out which one of us spends what and we split it 50/50.

Maybe if one was a drinker and one wasn't the only way is to have a breakdown of the bill and tick it off with your own individual list.

  17. It is almost certainly an upgrade. When you get an upgrade it's to a slightly more expensive cabin so you will be, in P&O's opinion, in a batter location. I see people asking all the time about upgrades and expecting a much better cabin. Upgrades are rarely about going from inside to Balcony or in your case to a suite but more likely, as you have found out, it's just changing the position of your cabin. This is why people who've cruised a lot tick often no upgrades, when they've spent time and care choosing the cabin they want - like you did.

    Exactly!!

  18. Only slightly off topic. On xmas cruises I deliver a shopping bag of chocs to the ladies in the casino which are always very welcome. I can't understand why they don't put on weight but apparently all those chocs they get can be swapped for other stuff. Except one young lady who preferred Pringles and later in the year had changed to Nutella :D

If chocolate was a currency I would be permanently broke!! ;p

  19. I don't like the debate abut tips either and I won't go into the reasons why I tip what I do. However, in answer to the question about what extra tips we give in cash as w go along, we tip room service every time we use them, we often tip our steward for little things they do as we go along and if we eat in a select restaurant such as the beach House or Glass House

Thank you this is the kind of thing I wanted to know.
