  1. Hi…first time cruising on HAL. Just wondering how dressy the formal nights are on the Caribbean sailings for gentlemen. Just booked a 10 day cruise on Rotterdam in January. Also how many formal nights are on a 10 night cruise? Thanks for any info.

  2.

Recently I was deciding between NCL studio and the Allure balcony and I vote for the Allure as well. I haven't tried NCL yet and would like to because of the solo traveler meetups they have but I looked at some Cruise Compasses that someone posted on the Royal Caribbean page and there were 3 solo cruiser get togethers in one day (I think it was lunch, dinner and something else I can't remember). So perhaps Royal Caribbean is helpful in that area too. Allure also seems to have so many shows and activities to choose from in general that I thought I would be able to keep busy enough. Or just sit on my balcony and enjoy. And now that I found out that there are some ships with studio balconies I might be set with Royal Caribbean afterall.

Thanks Tracy! I think I've made up my mind...Allure it is! Too bad I'll miss you by a couple of weeks.

  3. I am surprised that the cost for both is similar even if it is a central park balcony. I would go with Allure. I sailed on Allure and enjoyed the cruise and the ship with all its offerings, it is something to experience. Don't be put off by those who say it is too crowded, it is not.

If you do select Allure, you will have to pre book certain shows such as the aqua theater and the broadway play.

It is for an ocean view balcony!

  4. Thanks everyone....I was looking at the studio since I have never sailed solo before (new widow) and it seems like they help out more with the dining and meeting of other solos. That being said, I would love to have a balcony. Just not sure why the dislike of NCL....never sailed with them before either. In fact besides a short Carnival cruise a couple of years ago, I have not cruised for a very long time. My husband had a hard time getting enough time off of work so we mostly did all inclusive land trips.

  5. Hi everyone....I thought I was set on a solo cruise but now I found another and cannot decide since they both sound so good. Please help me decide. Prices are about the same. Either NCL Escape studio to Bermuda out of NYC... or RRCL Allure out of FLL to Eastern Caribbean on a balcony. I have to fly to either port and airfare is about the same.

  6. We are just across the border from Detroit, Mi. We got a great deal with Spirit non-stop. It is a later flight so we spent the first night in New Orleans. Got another great deal with priceline for the Royal Sonesta on Bourbon St. The cab from there to the port is $8 per person. We like that hotel so much we also spent 2 nights after the cruise there as well. So much fun. :)

  7. Just a few thoughts about our cruise. The reason we chose this cruise was because of our available dates and the fact that we love NOLA. We have not cruised in about 15 years. Hubby loves all-inclusive type vacations so I had to talk him into it. :)

First of all the demographics....we felt kind of old (55/60). I thought there may not be too many children as school is still in but many young ones and families. Also many graduates. Most were very well behaved. We were probably the only Canadians on board as well, lol. I guess if I lived in one of the Southern States I would cruise more often too. BTW I do love people from the south...very nice.

We had FTTF and it worked out well.

Dining...I emailed the maître d ahead of time to ask for a table for 2. Did not get a response email but we did get a table for 2. Our dining team were excellent. Also loved the Alchemy bar but didn't try it till our last day.

Cabin was on the upper...L-shaped. I loved the extended balcony. Hubby is a smoker and didn't like having to walk so far to have a cigarette.

Hope I can talk him into another cruise but I may have to wait till he retires and can take a 7 day or longer one.

If anyone has any questions I'll be happy to answer. I may post some pictures if I can figure out how to.

  8. Thanks...we will be on her soon. Do you know who the CD was. I heard some one from a prior cruise say he was not visible at all...and no sailaway party?? Also did you have to fill out a form on how many times a day your cabin would be serviced? I haven't cruised in ages so I'm not used to all of the changes.

    Thanks again.
