  1. If this is a "romantic getaway" and you are worried about the noise, why not pay the $220 and get a cabin that you will feel more comfortable in?

Unfortunately, when you book a GTY, you roll the dice. You have to be willing to take ANY cabin in the GTY category you booked or higher; ANY of them. And some may just not be in locations that you would like. That's why the GTY prices are so much lower -- it's a crapshoot.

I hope you have a wonderful cruise.

Thanks - we know it's a crap shoot and are considering it a budget deal. The increase of cost for similar room would be 40% more per person than what we paid so not worth it. We are rolling the dice on this one :D

I'll have to see when we are aboard but it seems like a really strange design decision to be laid out that way. As a first time NCL cruiser I didn't know this would be an option but we'll see how it goes.

  2. We sail on sunday on the Sun and are nervous about our guarantee. We paid for the lowest option and are usually fine with whatever we get. However, we received our cabin assignment and we are at the corner of the entrance to the kids club. The back of our room shares a wall with the teen night club. We are childless couple on a romantic getaway. TA said Norwegian would not change us to a similar or lower class room without paying an extra 220 dollars. My problems:

    1. who on earth designed a ship to have the kids club entrance on a floor with cabins and have the club be directly adjacent to them?

    2. why would they not give those cabins to families instead of a couple?

    3. why is there not an option to move to similar or lower class room?

Usually we are just fine with wherever we are but this seems problematic. I'll let you know how it goes.

  3. I have very little experience with this but was dealing with this question yesterday with my TA. She told me the OX is just a guarantee. Meaning they can put you anywhere in the ship with at least an obstructed oceanview category. The OK and other categories you are specifically getting your room, she had 2 room options for me that I could pick from. Picking cost more I guess?

  4. Hubby and I are looking for a more active activity in costa maya than going to the beach. Problem is hubby's criteria - travel distance must be limited to less than 30 min. We've done mayan ruins once in cozumel and would do them again but everything I've seen includes an hour bus ride each way which makes hubby climb the walls. I tried to book the atv tour from costamayacruiseexcursions dot com as it is close to port but alas, it was already full. The ATV tour from norwegian seems to be a 45 min. bus ride and hubby still said no go. Anyone have ideas for us?

  5. you don't have to go far out into the water at all. I'm not a strong swimmer and stayed close to where I could touch when necessary. The pictures posted here are very accurate as to the coral and fish we saw although I found the water a bit more cloudy. We got off the ship late morning and got to Grand Old house at a little before noon. We ate lunch and then spent about 2 hours at smith cove, wish we had longer though

  6. We just went to Smith Cove two weeks ago while on a cruise. DH and I were married there 10 years ago and were taking our families to visit. We had 8 people ranging in ages from 4 to 75. We took a cab to Grand Old House for lunch which is next door to Smith Cove. After lunch we walked to the beach. We snorkeled/swam for a couple hours then walked back to Grand Old House to meet the cab. The cab driver did come back at appointed time but Grand Old House would have called one if he didn't. Smith Cove was perfect for our niece who is 4 because the water is shallow and she could play without fear while some others snorkeled. We brought a sheet to lay all our stuff on and was able to snag a picnic table for DH's dad to sit on since his health isn't the greatest. Our day went perfectly.

ETA: I think the cab was 17 dollars for 6 of us, a little more for the way back since we had 8 on the return journey. Tendering was AWFUL though and we had to wait in line for 1.5 hours to get back on the ship. It's really a terrible process they have for as many cruise ships as are there all the time (5 in port while we were there)
