  1. Can you choose to cancel the automatic gratuities and give directly to staff? Prepaid gratuities don't reward those that go beyond their job description.

I am sure that anybody who wants to give more to their waiters, housekeepers etc can just give money just to them. That will reward those that go beyond their job description.

Yes, you can call this a daily service charge. Whatever you call it, the workers will get paid.

  2. Also try not to touch anything and keep your hands away from your face at all times.

I see people walking along railings and sliding their hands over it the entire way. You need to seriously decontaminate after doing that.

As a handicapped person, what can I do? I NEED something to hold on when trying to go up or down stairs? I use a walker on the straight places, and my DH takes my walker while I try to go up or down stairs. It must be great to be able to walk without help. Please know that walking along railings and sliding it the entire way is the only way that many people can get anywhere.

  3. Hi everyone, just checking in. The weight is crawling off, bit by tiny bit. I hit the 180's, which is a miracle. I was 236 when I got off the Carnival Glory after 12 days of stuffing myself last July. When I started Atkins/low carb high fat I was 208 and that was Easter Sunday! So even though it's coming off muuuuuch slower than it would if I was younger than my 51 years, the trajectory is downward and I'll take it!

My days have slipped into the same routine: two cups of coffee with coconut oil and cream in the morning with either a string cheese or an egg. Some kind of meat at lunch (or another string cheese). Veggies and meat for dinner. Then some Greek yogurt and berries. I've just cut out the almonds and dark chocolate and maybe that will speed up the loss. But I can't complain!

It's so funny- I have no clothes. I'm pulling out clothes I haven't worn in ten years- and they look it. I'll find a top but no pants to go with it. That kind of thing.

To all you newcomers- stick with it! Especially now- it's grilling season! So easy.

Wonderful to hear from a success.

  4. Me too and I live in Clearwater Florida 64

The first 3 days are H---l for me . :o

I am in my third day. This is hard, but I know I must keep going. We are almost neighbors. I live is Longwood, near Apopka. Hang on. Things MUST get better

  5. Welcome! There are plenty of long-timers here who have had great success with Atkins to cheer you on.

Have you ever done Atkins before? Do you have the book? I've found that following Dr. Atkins' advice to the letter has given me the best results, especially when I had to lose after my last two kids were born.

Keep us posted & definitely keep coming back!

My DH is looking at lots of books. Which one are you talking about.

Hard day for me. I miss bread. I hope that the craving goes away soon, but I will try.

  6. First I want to say that my thoughts and prayers go out to this wee boy and his family. I cannot imagine their pain, and sincerely hope that he makes a full recovery.

Now to the topic of RCI having lifeguards at the pools. Please note that I used the PLURAL. We are not talking about one lifeguard, we are talking about needing at least five or more at all times. You cannot have one pool guarded and the next one not. Independance class ships have the sports pool, the main pool, the solarium pool, the H2O zone and the circular pool in the kids area. So that is five lifeguards already. But what about the whirlpools? If you are providing guards for one water area, you need to provide them for all. So now we add two of the huge cantilevered whirlpools that hang over the sides, plus another three by the pool areas.

Can you see the logistical nightmare this would be? And who is going to pay for all these extra personal? These are not going to be crew from their regular sources. If you are providing lifeguards, then they have to be certified proper lifeguards. They are not going to work for low wages, so this is going to be a huge additional cost. Guess who is going to have to pay for all these expenses? Us the passengers. We would see our cruise fare increase for this.

Then there is the issue of what hours are the pools going to be open? How do they close them? Will the guests who now enjoy an early morning swim lose out? Or will it be the guests who love a midnight swim? There is no way to have the pools open and with lifeguards 24/7. So now we add in the cost of having crew rope off each and every water source every time they close or open. Another cost to pass on to the passenger.

Obviously having all the water sources with lifeguards 24/7 is not a practical solution. So we have to rely on parents/grandparents doing the right thing, and watching their children like hawks all the time. That is their job, their duty. There is not one iota of blame to be placed on this poor six year old who lies in the hospital right now. All he could possibly have done was be six, and six year olds are not known for their wise judgement. They depend on the adults in their lives to keep them safe.

One thing that we can all do is watch out for our fellow passengers. If you are in the pool and see a weak swimmer - child or adult - keep an eye for them. I can't tell you how many times I have watched out for a child who did not seem to have an adult with them. It is not that child's fault that no one was either in the pool with them or at least sitting on the side with eyes on them. Of course it is not my responsibility, but we are all in this together in life, so why not lend a pair of 'helping eyes' when you have the chance.

One last thing. IF the company provided lifeguards, how many parents would then use the pool as a babysitter so they can go off and do adult stuff? This could be a huge problem in itself. Imagine the number of children that each lifeguard could be trying to control? And you think that the pools are crowded now?

I will continue to hope and pray that this young boy recovers. I will also hope and pray that everyone who has heard of the is tragedy, will be just a little bit more careful the next time they are responsible for a child near a body of water.

    Well said

  7.

We need your advice, so far we have 2 nights booked Giovanni's, 1 night Chop and 1 night Samba Grill. We want to book up two other evenings at specialty dining...I was considering the 150 Central Park but the last menu I saw I didn't care for most of the items (I can't eat gluten, dairy and I don't eat seafood), but I am hoping that the menu change, does anybody have the most updated menu to 150 Central Park?

Any advice on which restaurants to go to and why, what you didn't like and what you liked most be helpful for us to decide, thank you.

My favorite is 150 Central Park, I am allergic to crabs etc. NO problem. They made me something else. The portions are small, but there are so many of them I couldn't finish. I was there in early this year and the menu was the same as the one on-line.
