  1. Some cruise ships won't let you bring on alcohol. There is a cork surcharge, which I refuse to pay.

I usually cruise on Carnival. I purchased the drink package the one time I sailed on Royal, so no wine was carried on. You don't have to pay a corkage fee if you pour the glass of wine in your room and then carry it to dinner, which is what I do.

  2. either, but I always book with a TA. Maybe that is why? Because I book through a TA, I would have to call them to see if any upsells/upgrades are available, right?

How close does the upsell/upgrade fairy call to your scheduled cruise? Curious.

I got the call less than a week before!

  3. SPLURGE:

Cabin -- We always do a balcony. There's nothing like eating breakfast or having a glass of wine while watching the water.

Excursions -- Hubby is not much of a "laying-on-the-beach" kinda guy, so we try to do something exciting at least once per cruise.

Casino -- Despite living 20 minutes from Atlantic City, we still bring a couple hundred dollars a piece to donate to the casino.

Pictures -- I always end up buying a couple of the pictures on board.

    SCRIMP:

Alcohol -- Hubby doesn't drink. I don't get drunk. We bring on our two bottles of wine (both for me), and I have maybe one or two additional drinks per day.

Soda -- We bring on a 12-pack, mostly for hubs.

Souvenirs -- I'm not one for buying key chains or magnets. We buy something for my stepfather (usually a t shirt, he takes care of our furry children when we're away), my mother, and my 98 year old grandmother. That's it. Nothing for us. Pictures are enough.
