  1. What was the age of majority of passengers on your cruise? We are in our early forties and definitely don't want to be on a Geritol cruise!

Every cruise is different. There are so many people on each ship, that you'll certainly find a lot of folks from just about every age group. Of course, the longer cruises (10 days or more) tend to have older passengers, because retired folks are able to spend more time traveling than those who still must hold down a job.

  2. We will be sailing on the Radiance in May (Alaska!), and we plan to go to Chops one night and Portofino's another. Is there anywhere that they post the week's dining room menus so that we can select the nights that seem the least interesting to us? We know that we need to make reservations as soon as we board the ship, but we'd like to be sure not to miss the prime rib or the lobster.

  3. Sorry, but I DO have cancer, and one of the chemo regimens I was on about a year and a half ago DID cause me to lose my hair. I never let anyone (except DH) see me without a wig on, even though I knew it LOOKED like a wig, not my real hair. Would I have been devastated if that woman had been me? Yes. But would it still have been funny? Yes. I can see it from both angles, and believe me, it helps if you can laugh at yourself. But thanks for the story! I'm probably going to lose my hair with this next regimen the doctors are planning, and I guess I'll have to remember to bring a spare wig when we cruise next summer!

BTW - on our last cruise, we spent a day pre-cruise in San Juan and a few days post-cruise there. The morning we were going to board our ship, we met a lovely couple who were also sailing out that day, but on another ship. The wife had on a sun hat, very stylish and pretty. She was between rounds of chemotherapy and was completely bald. They were planning on enjoying their cruise to the fullest. Maybe she had the right idea! An extra hat would be a lot less expensive than an extra wig!

  4. I think the strangest thing we saw was on our first RCI cruise. DH and I were on the Voyager in 2000 with our kids, 18 and 21 years old at the time, and we were seated at a table that overlooked the two other floors of the dining room. Our tablemates were two elderly women, the 40-ish son of one of them, and his shrewish girlfriend. After a couple of nights spent listening to the women complain that they wished they were sitting two desks down with the GOOD son and watching the girlfriend berate the poor man about everything he said or did, we suggested they talk to the matre-d' about changing tables. The following night, the "good son" and his wife came up to our table to explain how they should not try to change tables at all, the service down there was awful, they'd get stuck at a table in a horrible location, etc., etc. The women spent the rest of the cruise looking down over the railing with binoculars to watch the "good son" and his family and comment on everything they saw happening at their table. Talk about dinner and a show!

  5. Thanks, sillylizzie! My DS works part-time at Barnes and Noble. I'll ask him if he can find a copy for me. I've done the postcard thing for quite a while, but I think having all our cruise experiences in one place might be really nice.

  6. If you'd like I can take & email (or try and post) photos. Let me know if you're still interested.

Would you be able to post the ISBN number on the back of the book? It sounds like a really good journal, and I'd like to see if my local book store has it or can get it. Thanks for sharing your info!

  7. I buy postcards in every port, and each evening, my DH and I sit out on our balcony and record on the postcards our interpretations of the events of the day. (It's fun to see how differently we each view same events!) Once we get home, I punch a hole in the corner of each postcard and then put a ring through all of them. We end up with a cruise journal with wonderful, professional "photographs" that we can look back on whenever we wish. We've done this on our last few cruises, and we even did it on our driving trip up north last summer (well, we didn't sit on a balcony to write!). It's become a tradition, and it's one we really enjoy.
