  1. I board Saturday and will post the here:

Thank you for posting these menus! I am so excited to go back on the Grandeur in March and to see that they still serve the chilled soups at dinner. With all the talk about the new menus I was afraid they stopped those. We were on the Anthem in Dec and there were no chilled soups any night in the regular dining room...

  2. A few years ago my grandson met a boy his age on a cruise (I think they were 11), this boy was from Texas and cruising with his retired grandmother who cruises alot. The boy was already D+ status on his own and grandma said she takes turns between her grandchildren to go on cruises with her, they always stay in Suites and lived close to a cruise port, so grandma cruised most of the summer with the kids.

We have a different scenerio in our family than most of you are describing, DH & I always take this grandson on cruises with us, so at 15 he has been on 13 RCCL cruises (1 a year since he was 3) and is Diamond by his own right. He actually lives with my DD so has a different address from us. My DD has been on about 5 cruises but when GS reached Diamond status, she was given Diamond status too. And her fiance who lives with them received Diamond status after his 1st cruise. So the status matching works in reverse too, I think my DDs points only reflect what she has actually earned though.

  3. I tried it years ago and lost a total of 8 inches during the first session, but they measured me in so many places that it was only an inch or 2 at most from any one spot. It was only water weight which I tend to hold onto during a cruise from taking in a larger amount of salt in my foods than I'm used to. Taking the stuff at home over the next few months didn't give me any additional results.

So yes, it was a waste of money. And the earlier in the cruise you do it the more they hook you in, I met someone on a cruise once who went for 3 of the sessions while on the cruise for like $150 a pop, plus purchased the stuff for at home.

  4. Great work Paul! Now... Twenty-five years ago I went to the Jersey Shore. I went into the ocean with my car keys in my pocket. Any chance you can start working on that one for me?

Navigator out of Rome is now less than three months away!

I know this is off subject, but my mom once lost her glasses in the ocean in Wildwood, they showed up about a week later about 2 blocks down the beach from where she had lost them.

  5. Our 'worst' cruise was when we took a family cruise to Bermuda. DH and I had been there a few times and loved it and finally talked my sister and her family and my sister-in-law into joining us. There were 11 of us on this one.

It started the day before the cruise, DH had gotten something in his little toe that had caused it to get infected and swell up. I had a podiatrist appt that day so he went with me and had the doc look at it. Doc said he had to dig out whatever was in there so he did then bandaged the toe up gave instructions to keep it clean, etc...

Day 2 of the cruise, DH wakes up and can't get his shoe on, his entire foot is swollen and red, he goes to the dr on board and they explain he has cellulitis and will need IV anti-biotics for a few days and the wound will have to be cleaned out again. So, he is now going to the dr twice a day for his IV and 'surgery'.

Day 3 we arrive in Bermuda, DH can't go in the water so we rent mopeds and prepare to do a tour of the island. My DD and her boyfriend are at the end of the 7 mopeds, all of a sudden they pass the rest of us yelling that the moped that just zoomed past us stole their backpack which contained their passports, ID, $300 in cash, and some clothes/towels. So we all headed to the police station to report it. When my BIL (who almost had my sister convinced to let him get a motorcycle) pulls into the parking lot, he has trouble stopping his moped, he turns in between 2 police cruisers and looks like a ping-pong ball bouncing back and forth denting both cars down the whole side. My SIL also decides she's not comfortable driving the moped so lets her 17 yr old daughter drive it and she rides with my DH. I love having my own.

Day 4 DH is allowed to go in the water so we go to the beach and have a very nice beach day, that evening we plan on meeting some friends at one of the local pubs. DH was stationed in Bermuda in the Navy years ago and still keeps in touch with some of the locals he met back then. DH and I are the last to arrive at the pub, we see a whole row of mopeds lying down. When my BIL pulled in to park he took out the whole row. They were all locals and they were very good about it, even bought him a drink. After that my sister took over driving him and let their 18 yr old have the single one. Needless to say, he did not get a motorcycle...

After that everything else was pretty smooth, we got one of the cruise director staff to present my BIL with some gifts we picked up at dinner one night, he was sufficiently embarrassed by all the fuss. DHs toe eventually healed, although our health insurance balked at most of the $2400.00 that we had to pay on the ship. Lesson learned: I always purchase the travel insurance now. My daughter never got her bag or any of her belongings back, but didn't expect to. The police said that unfortunately Bermuda was no longer the safe place that it used to have the reputation of being and you had to be careful and tie your bags into the baskets, not just hook the strap over them.

Nothing that happened has changed our view of cruising, I guess I'm glad all the bad seemed to happen on 1 cruise cause all of our other cruises have been GREAT...and we've been back to Bermuda since then too.

  6. I just got my booked confirmation copy, I had to call RCL and ask them to send it to my TA showing my OBC. I could have let my TA handle that part, she is EXCELLENT!, but I did it over the weekend and just emailed her about what was coming. Because I'm booked thru a TA, RCL wouldn't send it to me directly.

Anyway, the 2 credits I'm seeing are:

ADV2-$200 ONBRDCR - this is for a 9 night cruise from us booking it as a next cruise - some of you have said this should only be $100 for a 9 nighter. We initially put $100 pp deposit on the next cruise so we're getting our whole deposit back as OBC!

C3OC-$125 OBC P-P - this is from cashing in RCL points, it's supposed to be a total of $250. Does anyone know if this code translates to $250? There are 4 of us on this booking so I don't think it's $125 per person.

To the OP, thank you for starting this post!

    Thanks, Janet
