  1. Not sure why Ecstasy isn't one.  IMO, it was definitely in the worse shape (at least cosmetically) of any Fantasy-class ship I've sailed, and I have about 80 nights on those ships.  Even dear, old Fantasy was in better shape when she was in Charleston.  Replaced by Ecstasy, and I thought she was pretty rancid.

As a fan of older, smaller ships, this makes me sad.  I understand that newer builds are probably more efficient to operate, but the re-built Destiny-class ships have an absolutely horrible space ratio, so even if sailing at reduced capacity, they'll feel more crowded than the older ships.

Been saying for a while now that if/when there's a viable vaccine, demand will spike and so will prices, especially with so much inventory being removed.  Partly why I have 8 cruises booked between Jan 2021 and Feb 2022 - prefer to have my deposits in limbo but have reasonable fares locked in.

Supply and demand, folks.  Econ 101.
I am also surprised Ecstasy wasn't on the list. We sailed her in 2014 and she was pretty beat up. Still nice though. She's had lots of work done ... She's in drydock now getting another upgrade...they just keep putting more into that one.

  2. those chutes is for crew members only, regular passengers like us board the lifeboat on the lifeboat deck wherever that is like on the outside promenade deck

I saw they are intended for crew only. However in a real emergency I think they will be used as needed. Also one of the videos I saw showed the animated people using it and one of them was carrying a baby.

Ideally no emergency evacuation plan would be needed.

  3. I think it's an interesting read. When booking we look at destination first and ship last. We have yet to book any cruise because we wanted a specific ship. I will admit that I am more hesitant to sail on the uber-mega-massive ships because of safety concerns. If the emergency escape plan includes using a body shoot for several floors ... no thank you.

I have seen these systems on the huge ships.

I do hope Carnival comes out of this strong. It's a terrible time globally right now and it is sink or swim for many corporations. Adapting will be mandatory for survival. We have enjoyed our trips with Carnival and hope to have many more to come.

  4. I believe you should call and upgrade your cabin ASAP!  The Vista Suites sell out, no chance for an upgrade.  The cabin you are describing has no privacy and a tiny balcony.  We have sailed in Vista Suites many times and they are wonderful.  Wrap around balcony, separate living area and bedroom, dressing area, walk in closet,  and jacuzzi tub in bathroom.  If it is only $500 for a 7 day cruise and you can afford it, you will not be disappointed.  Which Vista Suite deck are you looking at?  Deck 4 is totally covered and  has a wider balcony do to the slope of the railing. Deck 4 is our favorite.  Some decks have a smaller cabin size.
Thank you! We called back today and changed our reservation to the Vista. We are so excited! We will be in 4228. I'm so glad you verified all my internet stalking on the cabins today. The 4th level seriously looked better than the others. I think I watched YouTube videos and viewed floor plans for every one of them.

Now for the super long wait......

  5. So we booked a cruise in August 2022. We've never booked one this far out and I'm a little freaked out 🙂 but anyway ...

We booked one of the Junior Suites on board and I think there are only 2 of that category on this ship. I made the "mistake" of showing my husband the Vista Suite balcony and now we want to upgrade to that cabin category.

Should we just call and ask if we can upgrade now and pay the difference or should we hold out and hope we get an upgrade call from CCL? It's about a $500 plus difference in price from what we booked which is why I didn't even look at it while making the reservations. Would CCL even let us change our cabin assignment at this point? I've never tried to change my cabin after booking and we've never gotten a call to upgrade our cabin. I'm not the best way to handle.

Anyone more experienced have any helpful tips? I really appreciate any feedback! Safe Travels and Happy Sailing!

  6. I'm also curious. I like the staggered approach even without the health crisis. I wish it was a normal procedure all the time. I would think those with a higher loyalty level and those with priority boarding would be scheduled first. That only makes sense. I'm just speculating.

We always book a room the night before. Mostly because I get sick from the flights and then straight onto the ship. 2 airplanes to any port for us. Ugh. It feels more relaxed that way too and that piece of mind is worth the extra cost to us.

  7. Have you been in the Junior Suite before? Lovely rooms. I'd be marking my calendar if I were you. So exciting!
Yeahhhhhhh...my ex husband and I were in a suite once but it was a miserable trip! lol
We had literally just decided we were getting divorced about a month before but we'd already paid for the trip. HAHA!

My current hubby ... the good one ... and I couldn't afford a suite on our honeymoon cruise. Anyway ... I'm really looking forward to sharing the experience with someone who is not a jerk.

My first experience with the suite trip was so bad I don't even know the perks of a suite other than it's bigger.

  8. FYI> Carnival for sure. Do not know about any other cruise lines. They are holding cabins and letting them go available as they fill the cabins they want filled first. Case in point. I was about to book the Mardi Gras for October 2022 and was told the cabin I wanted was not available. My TA said book and we can switch if and when it becomes available. The very next day I told her to book it but see if they now have the cabin we want available. They just released a lot more cabins to book and the one we wanted was one of them. The cabins on either side were not  available. Wanted the same cabin we have for the October 2021 Mardi Cruise. So, get excited.
That does make me feel better. I'm totally ok with sailing on a half full ship. I was just worried it would end up canceled that far out. I think we got a great spot. My husband loved the Aft and we're in one of the Jr Aft suites. Tiny balcony but huge cabin plus we have a stairwell right around the corner for quick access. At least I hope that stairwell is accessible...

  9. Hey Y'all! We took our last cruise in 2014 for our honeymoon. It was my husband's first and it was my 4th cruise. We just booked a cruise for August 2022 ... How soon is too soon to get excited? LOL

The ship hardly had any rooms available to book. I looked at several category types and we finally went for the JR Suite but we didn't have hardly any options to choose from on location. Does that seem normal? Or do they still have ship capacity paired down due to COVID? We like the location we were able to book but I would have thought there would have been a lot more to choose from.

We haven't been following all the cruise news because we didn't expect to book any time soon. I've never booked one 2 years out before! 🤪

    Happy Sailing! Be Well!

  10. With our wedding, cruise and general life chaos I'm not sure who or where I am most days. Fellow list makers unite and help me out, please :)

What info do you print off and take along with you so you can have a hard copy?

Also, anyone have a link to the best packing list thread?

    THANKS!

  11. This may be the wrong thread for this question :) But I'm going to take my chances. We are beer and cider drinkers (we'll drink about anything really) ;)

I've been wanting to ask for a while now and this seems like a good opportunity. Does Carnival have a cider selection?

  12. We know about the great key lime pie ... but what about seafood? Any great places for us currently landlocked to get great seafood in Key West?

    THANKS!
