  1. mitsugirly,

thank YOU very much for your detailed info on blue kay!!

my family and I had a great time with smooth accommodation .. all thanks to your extensive info and guidance, keep up the good work!

just like what you suggested, we took a taxi (instead of the trolly) and only paid $2 per person.

blue kay only charged $5 pp that includes 1 drink and wifi access (rather slow).

lunch menu is all in US$ now. burito $12. they pushed for "fish of the day" dish.. priced by the pound, it's $21/lb ... we skipped that.

and massage is $40/hr at blue kay but $30/hr at the aqua sport ... it's a standalone open massage area with 3 min walk.

very nice choice for day stop at reasonably priced logistic ... THANK TO mitsugirly !! :)

When I arrived back to the palapa, the hubby must have got his belly full.

Now, I DON'T like tomatos. I don't like them so much that I normally won't order things like spaghetti at restaurants, instead I'll have alfredo. When I eat pizza, you can could it with the sauce on it and I'm fine, but I will pull back the cheese and toppings and "scrape" the sauce off. However, I could eat the tomoto and onion salsa all day long if I could. Oh my gosh it's just SO GOOD.

Here's the menus. I do have to tell you that a majority of the staff here either only speak Spanish or a limited amount of English that it's sometimes hard to communicate with them. Nino did not speak any English and when he tried to talk to us when we first got there, I immediately said "no hablo espanol" when he started talking to us. For some reason, he acted like he didn't understand that either and just kept talking in spanish (I know a few choice words and phrases) and could tell he was asking me questions that I couldn't answer. That's when he handed us off to what would become our waiter, who did speak pretty good english...Roberto. He was a terrific host, server...and I would find out later, the head chef as well.

Anyhow, why am I telling you this? Because the menus are in Spanish as well. Thank you taco bell for at least teaching me what some of these things are and how you spell them so that I could pick them out on a spanish menu. (I might add that after so many visits to Mexico over the years, I absolutely refuse to eat at Taco B(h)ell anymore. I want real Mexican!

  3. jenf,

sorry to hear about the misled.

thank you for sharing the experience and save a lot of us from similar issue.

    happy cruising!

We went to Blue Kay last Thursday and I just wanted to share our experience so it doesn't happen to other people...

We decided to take the open-air tram to Blue Kay since they were right there and we didn't want to walk out to get a cab. They charged $3 per person and said they couldn't make change. Well, ha-ha to them - we happened to have $9 :) They also proceeded to tell us you have to have reservations for Blue Kay. I didn't believe them and we figured we'd just go and see. We waited a little bit for the tram to fill and then drove down to where Blue Kay is. Well they drove right past it. They said they can't make stops anymore for people. So they dropped us at one beach location. They said if we didn't have reservations then we should stay there. It was $10 per person plus tax (our 9-year old was free). So now we're nervous about Blue Kay and we just paid the $22. They set us up at a nice table in the shade and pointed out a couple of things on the beach.

Immediately people started coming over to peddle stuff. It was non-stop for the half hour we sat there. The beach area we had access to was really small and the seaweed was everywhere. There was no snorkeling to speak of. So we decided to bail and walk down to Blue Kay. Yep. Should have done that to start with. The water was better, there actually were some fish, and it was $5 per person and that included a drink!

While we were there we told our story to another couple and the man told us the people at the other beach told them Blue Kay was closed! So there is some kind of deal going on between that beach and the tram people. Just watch out for people lying to you. It cost us $22 and about an hour of wasted time. We really enjoyed Blue Kay and would do it again. Oh and the cab back was only $2 per person. So save yourself the hassle and take a cab both ways!

  4. dear fellow cruiser,

apology if this topic has been covered before.

I will be on Liberty OTS departing on 10/9.

please educate me on where to go in costa maya:

I like to find that "postcard" Caribbean clear-blue water, white sand beach in costa maya.

Based on what I read so far, it is either Almaplena or Blue Kay.

    1. Which has better chance for that clear blue water?

    2. which has more shaded area?

    3. how far is blue kay from cruise port?

Thank YOU very much in advance for your help!

  5. Thank you for the qucik feedback Cuiser2!

Our port stops are Roatan, Costa Maya and Cozumel. They all are docked ports. Is there one that you would recommend to stay on ship? especially with 3yo DS.

    Thanks again

    1) Yes

    2) Yes

I suggest you pick Belize as the day to stay on the ship and avoid the looooong tender between the ship and shore.

  6. We will cruising on Liberty OTS on 10/9 with port stops at:

    Roatan, Costa Maya & Cozumel

Since we will cruise with 3yo DS, we may choose to stay on the ship on one of the port days.

What activities are still available on the ship?

    1. are restaurants and pool still open?

    2. is aquanauts (kid program) still open?

thank you much in advace for the info

  7. mitsugirly,

these review are VERY helpful and informative.

thank you sharing it. love the pics!

mitsugirly[/i];50439679]We have been there with 2 ships in port and it never felt crowded. LFK has expanded so much over the last few years and there and several different beaches and areas to hang out that it just never seems crowded. The amount of people they take goes up because they have made more room for them. At the moment I can think of 6 different beaches and areas to hang out by the water. Then factor in those areas around the animals and decks and other areas that you can sit in the water and swim (with no beach) and you have plenty of places to go.

You won't find this as an excursion on any of the ships. (That's something from the past and only Carnival had a contract with them back then, but LFK did not renew the contract and Carnival made their own little island across from this place instead). So...that means that the only way anyone knows about this place is going to be on these boards (or other boards and places like trip advisor), staying on the island, word of mouth and so on.

We think it's absolutely gorgeous there and probably one of the prettiest places we've ever seen. Although I will admit that it doesn't have the same "feel" as it did back before they expanded (but then again, Carnival didn't have a place backed up to the same lagoon back then either).

I have reviews in my signature line if you are interested in seeing the place (there's several). They are VERY picture heavy. It might give you a better idea of what it's like there...even with several ships in port. :)

  8. dear fellow Cruiser,

We are seasoned cruiser and will be cruising with our dear 3 years old son for the first time. so excited for the LOS departing 10/9

    Couple question please:

    1. will the Auquanaut staff remain the same for the duration of the cruise?

    2. what is the approx teacher-children ratio?

    3. what is the max # of kids accepted per day, once that # is reached, will they turn away the kid?

Thank you much in advance for the feedback! happy cruising
