    Squee! The big day is here! Amazing to see our ship from our hotel room when we woke up. The orange of the Magic Carpet is so vivid! I included a screenshot showing some of the other ships in the area. (Don’t worry; I’ll finish charging my phone before we board... ;))

    Off to work out, breakfast, etc...! Just a couple of hours left until we head to the terminal.

    Now here is something "interesting".

    We were on the Harmony OTS (left of EDGE in the photo) with our kids and grandchildren, and got some photos of the Edge departing Fort Lauderdale in advance of our Ship, on December 16th.!

    See you in a few months, and do enjoy reading the blog.....

  2. Doing the Paris to Normandy next year....Going ahead and staying in Honfleur, so we can do D-Day beaches, Mont St. Michel, on our own....we have already done D-Day beaches and such, but our friends have not......What are anyone's suggestions on what to do when the cruise gets to Rouen?? Also glad we will not have 4 hrs in a bus to beaches......

    We are doing the Viking Rinda, France's Finest in October. We plan to use our "free" day in Paris and travel by rail to Arras and taxi/uber to the Canadian War Memorial Site at Vimy Ridge. It does seem workable, but not sure of the train system and scheduling, but will let you know if it works.

    Cheers for now....Rob:D;p:hearteyes:

  3. Truth be told, the house wines can change from cruise to cruise. While there will be a red and a white each night, there will be a handful of different wines offered over the course of the cruise.

    All the previous post are accurate! Bring onboard your packages of beer, wine, spirits without fear of a pour out or confiscation. Quite civilized on Viking. i hadn't realized it also applied to Viking Ocean cruises. We will have to try them. It is getting closer to flying and boarding by the day.

    Cheers.....Rob & Val:):hearteyes::cool:

  4. Thank you all for your suggestions.

    Jeff, believe it or not, you have convinced me that we should stay in Avignon rather than Marseille. Everyone has said that they regret that they can't do both the aqueduct and the wineries but with a car and two full days we can do them both AND Carrieres de Lumineries (Gotta love Google maps!).

    Jazz, we were in Aix this past January with Viking Oceans so we are hoping to explore new territory on this trip.

    Rob, let us know how you make out getting to Vimy Ridge. You have posted elsewhere about your plans and I'm hoping that the subway strikes don't make it difficult for you.

    Rob, I presume that in Normandy, you are doing the Commonwealth tour. If you are, I would like to know just how long is spent at the Bayeux tapestry. Thanks.

    Antonio;

    Yes, we will be on the Commonwealth tour in Normandy.

    I will let you know about the Vimy travel arrangements when we return to Canada. It does seem fairly straightforward and will have to plan our day pretty carefully.

    And, please don't even think about subway/metro strikes as it does impact travel throughout the system.

    Enjoy the summer....and great to be retired!.....Rob:halo:;p:)

  5. On the 1st leg of France's Finest, we go from Paris back to Paris. On Day #7, we will be back in Paris with a planned Viking morning tour. However, we may just take the RER metro and head to the train station at Gare du Nord. From that station there are frequent trains that travel to Arras which is near the Canadian War Memorial at Vimy Ridge. Since we are from Canada it is a site that we don't want to miss.

    Cheers.....Rob & Val:D;p:hearteyes:

  6. We are booked on a Viking France's Finest River cruise to the beaches of Normandy in October, 2018. We have a "free" day in Paris and want to go to the Canadian War Memorial site in Vimy. Our initial plans would be to take a train to Arras then a taxi to Vimy Ridge.

    Can someone who is familiar with Paris' and France's RER train and subway systems provide us with directions from Viking Rinda at LePecq to Vimy (Arras)? We are not exactly sure where the Viking Rinda will dock in Paris, but seem to think it is at or near Le Pecq.

    Therefore, the RER subway from Le Pecq to the Gare du Nord train station, and on to where we can get the train to Arras, would be very much appreciated.

    Thanks so much....Rob & Val:cool::D:p
