  1. We are booked on two cruises in 2021:  Brilliance of the Seas in July (iffy at best), and, the one we are really fondly anticipating, Mardi Gras for New Years, Dec. 2021, both with our Cruise Family.  That is the one we feel will most likely happen.  We are so sad to be missing the New Year celebration this year - we really wanted to celebrate putting 2020 behind us!  What a year.  We have all sailed together for New Years (and others) since 2003.

    Shout out to the Chief. Just retired from USNR as an E6, though did 8 years active prior to this. I wasn't deployable so couldn't compete with the other E6s as effectively. Stupid heart murmur.

    Looking at my Magic 8 Ball, it says your 2021 cruise will go without a hitch.

    Thanks for this!  Looks like your "cruise ship" career is just starting!!  We absolutely love cruising.  We are also currently booked on the Brilliance of the Seas in July, 2021.  Jury is still out on that one.   I don't know about your Freedom Cruise in October, but the one on the Panorama might be a go!!

  3. Our Cruise Famiglia is booked on the New Year Cruise, Dec. 26, 2021, on the Mardi Gras.  We are hopefully watching and waiting.  This will be our 16th New Year cruise with everyone, as well as several mid-year cruises.  We met everyone on our first cruise in 2003, and have cruised together ever since.

  4. Hi, All,

    On our first cruise on the Grand in 2003, I discovered Cruise Critic Roll Calls.  Amazingly, our group of posters was pretty much a "match made in heaven'".  We all discovered so much in common.  At our "Meet and Mingle", we all instantly knew each other, and bonded well.  Most of us have sailed every New Year Cruise together since with few exceptions (although not on the Grand Princess).  Also a few Summer cruises.  You could call it a wonderful, once in a lifetime, event.

    I have tried on subsequent cruises to chat with fellow cruisers on the Roll Call for whatever ship we were sailing, without much success.  Guess we were fortunate on that first cruise!

    Needless to say, we are really looking forward to our New Years Cruise with everyone on the Sky Princess (I think it will be the fifth cruise for that ship in the Caribbean).

  5. We are cruising on the Allure on 8/7/16. Some of the people I am crusing with believe that they can purchase the premium drink package onboard for the same price its being offered online for $47. I told them it would be full price at $59.

    Am I right or wrong?

    If I understand the "fine print" in my Cruise Planner correctly, you are correct. After factoring in the 18% tip in both prices, the amount will approximate the 20% off onboard prices they promise.

    This is our first cruise on one of the "mega ships". Our group is very excited about it.

  6. Hi,

    Just saw this on Cruise Critic. As you can see, we will be sailing on the Allure on August - really looking forward to it. We are giving Royal another try, since lately Princess hasn't been showing us much. Sounds like you tip like we do.

    We are booked for Momma Mia, too. Loved the movie. Sounds like the stage production is great, too.

    This will be our first cruise on a "mega ship". Love adventure, and this ship seems to provide plenty of it.

    Your review was well done and informative.

    Okay- we had previously decided to NOT do a drink package this time, but after seeing the 20% discount pre-cruise special in my cruise planner, I have started crunching the numbers again to see...

    My issue is I am not seeing a true 20% discount when I do the math...so can someone help?

    RCCL website for PREMIUM listed it as of 4/27/2016

    $49.00/day (no tip)--->(+tip $8.82)--->> total $57.82/day

    7 DAY TOTAL= $404.74

    WITH 20% discount on Cruise Planner

    $47.00/day (no tip)--> (+tip $8.46)--->> total $55.46/day

    7 DAY TOTAL= $388.22

    A difference of only $ 16.52 ? Not 20%?

    Am I missing something?

    Hi, CHAMPDDS,

    It appears that the prices you show are, indeed correct. I also purchased the Ultimate pkg today for DW and myself for our Aug 14 cruise on the Allure. I may be wrong, but I did note on the details that it seems to specify the the price of the beverage packages are 20% off the purchase prices of the packages ONBOARD, which may or may not be more. That makes more sense to me. As for us, we are grateful for any savings from RC, and watch them closely for marketing tactics that favor them. Hope this helps, and HAPPY CRUISING!!

  8. our plan is to fly down to Fort lauderdale on Nov 26 for our Allure cruise on the 27th and fly back on December 4th.

    Anybody have any tips to find decent airfare. We are definitely looking for a nonstop flight.

    TIA

    Bill

    Hi, Bill. We sail on the Allure on Aug. 14. This is our first cruise on a "mega ship". Looks like lots of adventure. August can't come soon enough!

    There is an app called "Hopper" where you can put in your flight info, and Hopper will let you know of any price decreases/increases. There is also a site http://www.kayak.com that I use to get leads on possible good flight values, then I always book either direct with the airline, or with American Express Travel.

    Hope this helps.
