  1. We have stayed in cabins that our neighbors smoked cigars the entire cruise and guest services didn't care! Not even a little bit . Even after we continued to complain the entire cruise they did it .

As far as vaping weed , I do it legally and you would never know I did it or am doing it 😉. Zero smell and minimal smoke. I wouldn't take it or smoke it onboard though because I'm legal in my home state but it's still federally banned for now so not worth the risk for me

Don't you both have to get the drink package if one gets it?  That's why we never purchase it on Carnival - my husband might be able to make it worth it but I can't.

Everyone 21 and older in the room must buy it

But will not be limited to 15 drinks if you pay full price for them...but let see....just how much did that 'FREE' 15 drink limit card in the casino actually cost you?   LOL

I love how now gambler's love to put us down 😉.  Most of us know we likely won't walk away winners and it's our entertainment just like people like to sit at the piano bar we love the casino games. With that being said ....

My thoughts on the drinks on us card and the drink package is I'd rather have the $500 or $600 whatever it is now since it went up to gamble with and have a nice head start on our gambling. Sometimes we win and that lasts awhile and we get free drinks. Sure not as convenient as going to any bar or by the pool but when my wife wants a wine it's available. And usually the casino takes care of us as well. Our cruise on the horizon in a few days was $1350 with port fees and taxes. We get $1100 casino cash. Can't beat a $250 cruise 😉

The Day of the Dead celebrations in Mexico are mostly private/family oriented.

On Cozumel, it is known by it's Mayan name, Hanal Pixan.

You'll most likely find several small altars, remembrances, and exhibits set up around the Plaza and at the Cozumel Museum.

In the evenings of Nov 1 and 2 there may be a festival in the plaza, but it's generally held from 6-9PM.

Thank you very much for the great information. I asked my uncle Google lol and couldn't find much on the subject. I'm sure we'll wander around town and look around

People have such strong feelings on this. I can see why it comes up so often. I just like having everything taken care of that I can before the trip so that there is less to pay for afterwards.  Just to show you how people differ, I have never tipped the matre'd. Many cruises I do not even see him.  If I have great service in the dining room, or room, I tip extra at the end of the trip.

The matre'd is now a salaried position so no need to tip unless they do something special for you. But years ago they were much more present and walked around and interacted with passengers more because they relied on the last night envelope 😉. As far as tipping you will find many of us passionate about the subject. Some of us work or worked for tips at some point in our lives and some have not so will never understand the struggle 😂

  6. I would not get the drink package if I were you. We've been on many casino cruises with DOU in the casino and many many times we go various times day and night and they will get us a drink playing or not. I'm going to be honest I'm a bartender and take care of the servers pretty well so we are never thirsty. Often I've went down for wine before dinner and took it with us. Save your cheers money for winning some jackpots 😉

  7. NCL costs alot for a "free"cruise. Plus if you win early on NCL, they hold winnings against you. We were lucky enough to win big early on one cruise, and after 26 comped CAS when we called to book our next cruise, we were told by 3 different people (2 supervisors) that " because we won, we were playing with their money, and can pay for our own cruise" only 20%off. We played a lot, and got enough points to make elevated level with points. We then took a screenshot of a certificate from CAS and sent it to URCOMPED. We have sailed 3times on MSC for free, 1x on RC for just taxes, and just booked MSC for New Year's eve, again free. Try URCOMPED, you cant beat their deals. WE LOVE FREE

    Safe sailing

We got a lot of free offers from urcomped and especially on MSC the host told me free is really free no charges at all ,they even pay the port charges/ taxes for you. I may use them our next cruise and not even use this certificate.

  8. what is booking window for the "free NCL" cruise? the wife rec'd one from Hard Rock Biloxi but it's an 8 hour drive for us to go get the certificate...just trying to decide if it's worth the drive...we've already got trips planned for available time-off thru Spring 2020.
We just got one from Golden Nugget AC Saturday and we have exactly 2 months to book and one year to sail .I bet each casino is different

  9. Why do people call them secret decks? If they were secret, no one would know about them. I have never seen any chairs or loungers in these areas, but I have only been on 22 cruises on Carnival so that doesn’t amount to much time wise considering there are now 26 ships sailing 365 days a year.
They call them that because 99 percent of the cruisers don't know they are there. Not everyone reads cruise critic

  10. Yes. but unfortunately, hopefully fortunate, on a 7 day cruise, it WILL get spent, oh wait, what if we win big? Do I really need to consider that HAAHA
Even if it's not spent just go to the casino download the amount you have to spend in a penny machine spin it once and download it to your sign and sail card. Then walk to the cashier and cash out your moolah

  11. Can anyone tell me how much you need to spend to get the free drink card in the casino? It says earn 1500 points and get free drinks, I spent over $300 and only earned 800 points, Staff in the casino on the Carnival Pride claimed they were not sure ??
The most important thing to remember is it's coin in coin out. It's not a dollar figure spent or won.

The key to getting points is finding a machine that pays your bet back often or let's you play and parking your butt and playing as long as you can getting points. I'll try to explain what I mean the best I can

Say we put $100 in a slot and play until it's $15 and get a bonus for $80. Now we're down $5 but have been playing and getting those points all that time. Now we start over with that same $100 and play it to $50 and get a bonus for $30 . Now we're $80 in and keep playing back down to $20 and hit again for $60 .Now we're at $80 almost even again and keep Playing. You'll understand what I mean easier when you sit on a good game and can just play and play on the same money [emoji3]

Very often we got drinks on us on the First day on one slot machine this way

  12. I just got off a 9 day NCL Baltic cruise, where the casino was closed a lot of the time. Played much less than I have on any cruise. Got off the cruise Wednesday 9/5 and just got a postcard in the mail for a free cruise on 12 different dates through Dec. 17. Unfortunately, can't make any of them!

I now try to avoid the Premier/plus cruises for that reason. I find the casino too jammed for my taste - even if they do alot of giveaways. And many of the premier prices are not great deals! (except for the cashback in the casino) I have now been booking the "dealer's choice" cruises - discount and casino cash back, and casino not as crowded!

We find also on the casino cruises that we are little fish in that big gambler sea . We're gamblers both alot of time and money on cruises and land for that matter but we seem to get less attention from the hosts then regular cruises we are on because so many people gamble like a rock star on those cruises. I remember on one we were on the second day a lady had 100000 points [emoji33]. I don't know how that's physically possible , I thought maybe a back to back that the points carried over but I saw it with my own eyes

  13. I was finally able to print all my documents for my Sept 15 Premier Plus. I will post when I return. I hope it is not as crowded as the regular Premier cruise, where every slot machine is taken.
Unfortunately the casino is crazy on all the casino cruises! Everyone trying to get their points to get another free one [emoji6]

What we do is play at off times when everyone is off the ship when it's open or sleeping.

You'd be surprised how empty it is at 8am or 1am

    Good luck

  14. Bumping this to the top because I'm very glad I read it before our Horizon cruise.

In particular, the things I liked most about the Horizon were:

    • the free lunches with quality food you don't get on Lido at Cucina (linguini with fresh clams in white sauce!), Pig and Anchor (pulled pork butt!), and Ji's Ji's (ask them not to spray the wok with Pam and your food will taste better).
    • skyride
    • privatish "secret" areas at the front of the ship on a few decks, in particular the one right in front of the Spa
    • theaters
    • water slides

The things I didn't like were:

    • casino dealers were caught by yours truly no less than 30 times not paying correctly on HeadsUpHold'em and ALL 30+ times were UNDERPAYMENTS. Making mistakes is human, but when it's only underpayments and no accidental overpayments, I am suspicious. Once I even had to correct the pit boss who wanted to pay $325 on a $375 win.
    • staff/cruiser ratio is noticeably poor and lots of people were complaining the cruise wasn't as fun as other class ships.
    • For the most part, Lido deck food and MDR food is the same old Carnival crap.

Those secret decks are great we book inside 4J cabins forward and get that nice deck as our balcony right outside our door

  15. We have a group of about 20 on this ship at the end of the month and we are so excited! Thank you for this great review. I haven't really heard much about the casino which is where our group will be a lot so I'm bummed it's so small. Do you remember what games they might have?
If you Google horizon casino there are some good videos that show which machines are in there on YouTube

  16. Thanks for taking the time to put your thoughts about the cruise. There are areas of agreement with your assessments and some disagreements (I thought all the shows were quite good, on the other hand, I'm not a cruiseship comedy show guy so never go to those).

My take on Carnival Cruises.(Quick background; 57 Yr Old Male, avid cruiser with 74 cruises - 15 Carnival;16 NCL; 3 Princess;16 Celebrity; 23 RCL ;1 MSC) EVERYONE on a Carnival cruise seems to want to have lots and lots of fun. Your comment on how packed the main pool deck is seems to be how all Carnival Caribbean cruises are, even on small ships. My take is those people WANT TO BE where all the crowds, noise and craziness occur. Me? I went to the Serenity area and on MY cruise, which was the one right before yours, I was able to always get a lounge chair and enjoy the sun in peace and quiet. During the Electric White Night Deck Party it was PACKED to the gills with people enjoying the line dancing. And you know what? I almost NEVER hear ANYONE complain on a Carnival cruise. Of course that's an exaggeration, but in general everyone you meet seems to be having a great time on a Carnival cruise. Now as contrast you go on a CELEBRITY Cruise, oh my lord! Complain, complain complain! Especially the older passengers that were used to how Celebrity did things 15 years ago, talk about a miserable bunch! And you will NEVER see the audience participation on a pool Deck party on a CELEBRITY Cruise as you do on a Carnival!

So although it may sound like I'm bashing Celebrity remember I have 16 Cruises with them and actually they are my favorite cruiseline! I see in your signature line you'll be on the Edge and I'm jealous! Would love to be on that ship but just a bit too expensive for me right now.

I see you're doing Carnival Players Club cruises, same here. Since June '16 we've (husband & I) done 11 Carnival Players Club Cruises so I'm pretty familiar with what the current Carnival product is AND more importantly, what it ISN'T. I'm VERY curious to see how you will like your future Celebrity Edge cruise and if the anticipated premium modern expereince is more to your liking for a cruise vacation. I find that I enjoy each of the mainstream cruiselines for different reasons. They each have their own positives and negatives (A Carnival stateroom will NEVER,EVER look like a Celebrity stateroom!).

Have you noticed FINALLY Carnival has kicked it's Casino program up a notch ? My wife and myself both work in a casino and gamble very often here in Atlantic City. For years Carnival gave barely anything and for maybe the last few years have gotten so much better. Our next cruise on Horizon I'm getting $1000 cash which basically paid for our cabin. I remember one cruise years ago I lost $12k and didn't even get a discount letter the last night lol
