  1. We had a large group on the Norwegian Sun going to Santiago a couple of years ago. The first night we looked in at the meeting and saw about 5 male couples in one part of the bar chatting. I said, "Hi, we're not sisters... is this the right place?" It seemed to break the ice and we had a great time with everyone for the rest of the trip (16 days)

Before that, we had cruised on Norwegian in the Baltic and the Mediterranean and there was no one at the FOD meetings. It could be the difference in European vs. American clients.. I don't know. We're doing Vancouver to Toyko this fall. We'll see.

What I've noticed is that the fod/LGBT gathering are at some insane time like 10 or 11pm!

Even on vacation, I'm in for the night!

  2. Hi,

I am a well travel guy. I have never thought about cruise until I am working in this industry now. Being fairly new, I wonder if anyone of you could kindly advise me which cruise where I can find mature single older guys (55+) who likes... younger men. Do they normally travel in a single cabin? Since I dont have much annual leave or opportunity, I like to make the right one. With your help, I believe it could happen.

Atlantis / RSVP are typically full ship charters - I've enjoyed the gay group tours by Pied Piper - they have something scheduled every 2-3 weeks all over the world. They typically align with Celebrity for the port intensive sailings, Cunard for transatlantic and they do a river cruise - can't remember who they use for that.

I've been treated fairly by them, their hosts are awesome, and the other travelers tend to be older ( late 30s and up to infinity )

  3. If you are looking for romance on your first cruise, your best chance would be one of the all-gay charters from RSVP or Atlantis. All ages and many different desires are found there. Paying double for a single cabin would give you more freedom, but sharing can work too.

There are also Gay Group sailings that offer cabin share services. That's the luck of the draw as to compatibility w unknown roommate. However it helps to keeps costs down.

  4. I did my first solo cruise @50 year old.

Had a blast. Quickly discovered companies that specialize in gay groups and have enjoyed the close friendship I've developed out of those annual experiences.

I now have a partner and he is hooked on cruising as well.

  6. Thanks for your quick reply, we will try to check out the FB page, its great that you are doing that.

Like so many of you out there, each year I've met SO many awesome folks - guys, gals, (str8s) too.

any of you are welcome to join the group - regardless of if you are "Pied Piper" alumni or not. I've developed friendships w/ people onboard that actually lurked in the back ground in the FB group for a couple of years before actually booking and sailing. Also, there are folks that are just totally cool awesome people that book outside PP yet join our group year after year.

I've been called the defacto "julie" cause the last couple of years, i've tried to organize folks at a particular hotel or w/in a given area for hotels. Also the night before the cruise, i've coordinated a restaurant to gather as well as setting up a pre-night bar night like at Georgies in FLL.

I don't work for PP, just a fun guy that like to plan things and provide folks to maximize their vacation fun :)

  9. Hey Folks.

Ray and Jim here. Booked sailing for this November 2015. We are Pied Piper alumni, they do things right on this sailing that keeps me returning. Plus the guys that we've met over the years on this Post T-giving sailing are terrific. I am so excited that I garnered an AquaClass on the stern (deck 11). The Balconies on those cabins are HUGE.

It will be awesome to get back on the Millennium Class ships. I like the smaller size and the heated indoor pool!

Blu is awesome for the dining, such a treat to enjoy that anytime experience in a true restaurant experience.

    ****************

with all the lack of safety controls for costa and this ship. how culpable is the corporation (aka. carnival ) for such cost cutting that basic safety equipment is in dis-repair or out of date?

    *****************

THE black box on the crashed Italian cruise ship the Costa Concordia was faulty, investigators have been quoted as saying in a new report.

The Italian ship, which crashed in January killing 32 people, was sailing with its sealed doors open, unapproved maps and faulty instruments, a newspaper reported yesterday, citing investigators.

The black box was also reportedly out of action at the time of the impact, meaning investigators have to rely on a computer that was switched off at 11.36pm and may never be able to piece together the exact events of that night.

"The Vdr (Voyage Data Recorder) has broken down for the umpteenth time... The situation is becoming unbearable," Costa Crociere's technical director Pierfrancesco Ferro is quoted as telling a repair firm in an email.

Costa Crociere, Europe's biggest cruise operator, defended itself against the charges telling Corriere della Sera: "The black box signalled only an error code which absolutely did not mean that the Vdr apparatus was not working."

"There is no law or international convention that means that in a situation like this the ship could not sail."

Some of the technical apparatus on board the Costa Concordia had been broken since January 9 - four days before the tragedy on the Italian island of Giglio, the Corriere della Sera said, citing leaked documents from the inquiry.

The report quoted a response from ship owner Costa Crociere saying that it was not aware the sealed doors were open, that the maps were the captain's responsibility and that the glitches did not stop the ship from sailing.

A court hearing is due on July 21 at which the full results of technical analysis will be revealed. Captain Francesco Schettino and eight others including three executives from Costa Crociere are under investigation.

The giant ship hit rocks off Giglio on the night of January 13 with 4229 people from dozens of countries on board. Cpt. Schettino is accused of delaying the evacuation and then abandoning ship before everyone had been rescued.

Emails cited by Corriere della Sera showed the ship had been due in for repairs on its technical instruments after it reached port on January 14.

An officer on board questioned by investigators also reportedly said sealed doors were open at the time of the impact as "this was a practice used during the navigation to ease the flow of people who were at work."

It also said that ensuring the ship was equipped with all the maps required for its route was Cpt. Schettino's responsibility after a cartographer questioned by investigators said that digital maps on board were not authorised.

"The ship should have never sailed so close to the coast," the company said.

  11. I have a profile on the meet me onboard site. Dont really like it, not much traffic there.

Yeah. I'm on that site as well. Solo traveler here. Would live to find and active forum for a meet and greet. From what I've experienced. Cruise critic is the most active.
