Yes, it is possible to side step the liquor collection crew if they are distracted but they may also collect you if you get pass them.  There isn't an exception to bringing on liquor from San Juan.  You are supposed to turn it in

I did not see any tables set up anywhere between security and the gangway.  I supposedly was supposed to show my wine to someone after security but there wasn't anyone to show it to.

hard to fathom, did you actually see liquor bottles, or a friend saw someone. They are way to strict, admittedly SJU is not the strictest we've sailed. BTW the liquor in the terminal is NOT inexpensive, like other duty free ports.

My friend saw the lady enter the security line with 3 paper bags containing 2 bottles of alcohol in each one.  She said she heard the lady tell security at the X-ray machine that she just bought them in the terminal and she walked onboard with them after going through security.

If you couldn't carry it on the ship why would they be selling it in the terminal?  This was the first time I've seen alcohol and packs of soda being sold inside the terminal.

  3. We were in the Sept 1 sailing of the Fascination.  We purchased sodas and 2 bottles of wine before we got to the port.  When we arrived at the terminal there were several places in the terminal to buy liquor and sodas.  My friend saw a lady carry 6 bottles of liquor in 3 paper bags that she purchased in the terminal through security and onto the ship without any problem.  Has anyone else experienced this?  I'm assuming it was duty free but wish we had known in advance so we could have bought a bottle to take to our room.

  4. We just came back from SJU earlier this month.  We never had to wait more than 10 minutes for an Uber.  I can't speak for the Pan American pier but over at Pier 4 (Carnival) the Uber drivers had to pick you up across the street from the terminal.

  5. We just stayed there one night each pre/post cruise.  It was fine.  Elevators are small (8 person capacity) - we were barely able to get 2 people, 2 large and 2 small suitcases in there.  Rooms were a little smaller than we are used to but they were clean and the beds were comfortable.  I would stay there again.

Warning - hotel collects a 35% per night "resort fee" in addition to the local 11.5% taxes.

  6. Just read this....also my friend on board says they will be boarding at 7 PM.

The Carnival Fantasy is expected to arrive at 4:00PM today and disembark her passengers. For cruisers departing on the shortened cruise returning on 12 Oct, please stay tuned to communications from Carnival regarding your embarkation time. We ask that guests not arrive until their embarkation time.

  7. I've sailed "Paradise" many times out of Tampa, and always eat at first seating. We ALWAYS pass under the bridge while at dinner, so if you have early, and want to be on deck for the passage under the bridge, I'd recommend the buffet the first evening. (Oh by the way, it is, indeed, a sight that you won't soon forget.)

    "SKY"

I was kinda cool how everyone cheers when we clear it! It is amazing how close we are. I would be curious to know how much clearance we had because it appears to have just been inches!

  8. So I take it going under the bridge is definately a Kodak moment or perfect time to have the video camera rolling?

Wow! I was googling how long it takes a cruise ship to reach the bridge after leaving Port Tampa and found this post of mine from 13 years ago!

This is weird because I just returned from a cruise out of Port Tampa 3 weeks ago! I made sure I was up on deck when we sailed under the bridge! It was great!

  9. We just got off the Paradise 9/7. It was always a long wait to get a soda at a bar even if they weren't busy. In the MDR it wasn't a problem. After the first time, our waiter automatically brought them each night. If I do cruise CCL again, I'll bring my own 12 pack. Too bad Carnival doesn't have the Coke Freestyle machines like Royal - they're great!

  10. I have heard that as long as it's just plastic with no metal facing, that it's OK. Our granddaughter has a flat iron that she will take, and it's huge - the "blades" are about 3" wide an 6" long. It really could be used as an iron. I hope it makes it through the luggage check - she'll be mortified if she can't straighten her hair for evening activities.

I took my flat iron on my cruise last month. Luggage arrived at a reasonable time (before 2 PM) and was not hidden in any way - buried in clothes but......

  11. Honestly...IDK if there was ever roast beef in the Park Cafe.

FYI - we were on this same cruise. My daughter and I went to the Park Cafe one afternoon for a snack. They had a little roast beef left (they ended bringing out more) so I had to get a roast beef sandwich after I have read dozens of reviews of how delicious they were. BTW - those reviews were right! OMG that sandwich was soooo good. The chocolate chip cookies were good too.

I was disappointed that the Park Cafe wasn't open for lunch when we boarded but the Windjammer wasn't too badly packed when we went.

  12. We are heading out for PC in the morning for Enchantment on Fri. We don't expect good weather. But we are with friends and we will have a good weekend no matter what Hopefully the storm will stay south and surprise us all. But if not, it is what it is and we will have a fantastic time anyway. We brought lots of card games to pass the tiime

I hope you have calm seas and a great time!
