  1. Thanks for all the birthday wishes...and for remembering me....!!!

Yesterday...before my family came with yummy cakes and neat gifts....I put little lights in my lego's....it was just like setting bombs...took an hour...but they got a real kick out of it.....

I had never put a lego together until receiving the Bonsai Tree for Christmas....and as my family said....it was a slippery slope....and I am now running out of room....!!! 😂😂

So my friends, I have had quite the day and it is very late to post. I went out to my father’s to take him shopping this morning and found him dead in the bathtub. He passed away some time yesterday (thur) according to the coroner. It is quite the process when someone dies at home, at least in Ontario. I called 911 of course, they pronounced, then the police showed up, then the coroner who gets to decide if there needs to be an autopsy, (not, he was almost 93), then the funeral home to remove the body. Late afternoon my sister and I went to the funeral home to sign paperwork. But, father, bless his heart, had prearranged everything. We will have a private committal service on Wednesday morning. So, asking for your prayers to get thru all this and them the estate stuff.

i will put our family on the care list. I should be fine posting the lists over the next few days because I prep them at night.

    I am so sorry.........

Interesting and now I am curious.....😉

Jo Johnston on her World Cruise blog...said she has booked a 50-day Mediterranean round-trip cruise out of Fort Lauderdale...for the fall of 2024...

Said it hasn't officially opened up yet...but they were taking advanced reservations on the ship...

My friends took a 49 day Mediterranean round-trip several years ago....and it was a great cruise....!!

Anyone here heard about this new cruise.....????

  4. Today is my birthday....and I get to celebrate it with my family again this year....!!

In 2019.....one of my son's brought this cake....besides looking great and being totally yummy....it was a big joke....😅

We have several Roth's bakeries here....but for years.....I would always drive miles across town to the best one... "the Good Roth's".....my son said they understood the part about having a Hawaii theme...but couldn't quite believe what else he wanted on that cake...LOL...😂

Hope everyone is well...and you are all enjoying the weekend....!!!!

Just took a look at cruisemapper.com and see the Koningsdam getting into position at drydock in Portland Oregon right now.  It's quite a distance from the ocean.

Wow...surprise...I'm tempted to drive up and take a peek....I think I left something in the Grand Dutch Cafe......but maybe I'll wait until it isn't raining a gale....:)

  6. Let's Laugh Day is perfect...!!

At 11:11 pm last night....my cell phone did some kind of crazy update thing....and I heard 14 rapid "dings" when some missing text messages finally arrived....

The last one was from one of my sons saying he was on his way over.....my mother-radar worry-button and adrenaline suddenly spiked....until I saw his smiley face emoji.....and realized he had actually sent that text earlier yesterday morning......😅

Of course by then I was TOTALLY awake....but just read a couple of hours and eventually fell back to sleep....😅

  7. Gotta love Genealogy Day....!!

I've been addicted to genealogy for over 50 years...actually it's getting closer now to 60 years...

I post all of my research on Ancestry...so that it has a public forum and can be seen by anyone who might be searching...

Four of the genealogy trees are our family....and 25 trees are a mix of friends who have asked for help.....and complete stranger's who have hit a brick wall...

I love helping and finding their problems...I love the "dig"....my DH always said I should have been an FBI investigator...:)

And I've loved all the research trips here in the US....and especially those in London...!!

Two days ago I was reading a bit of fluff and escaped into a Regency book...it was fiction....when suddenly a name came up in an actual fact the author had thrown in..........dropped the book, grabbed my laptop....and off I went.......!!

Turned out to be a great hint...and I'm still working on it....:)

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend....!!!

My husband passed away last week after bypass surgery. He was home one week and gone. I had booked a cruise for 8 weeks after the surgery and was wise enough to by the cancel for any reason insurance. I know the kind hearted people on CC will offer sympathy and prayers, so thank you in advance.

We had traveled together on more than 30 cruises and this is my favorite type of vacation and know that I will want to continue. I have a number of questions for those who have needed to make the switch from sailing as a couple to sailing as a solo.

I understand that most of the time you will be charged for two people in the cabin, even if there is only one. There are occasionally sales which only charge solo, but sounds like those are far and few...

How long did you wait to take your first solo cruise. Did you go alone or take a family member or friend with you? Would you go sooner or wait longer?

If you want to purchase the HIA, do you pay once since there is only one passenger or do you pay double. Same with Club Orange.

We have not been loyal to one cruise line, but have cruised the most on HAL. I'm only 65, but no party animal. Would you stay with HAL or try something else?

Are there things you would recommend for a solo to do? Book more shore excursions versus doing your own thing, etc.

Do know that I would probably go to the meet and greets. Husband wasn't a joiner, so we didn't participate.

For a little context. Have been sailing primarily in balcony cabins. Enjoy just sitting on my own balcony with a book and cocktail. Don't feel the need to be entertained at all times. Primarily looking to get out of the frigid north to someplace warm. Love to travel and can not see myself at a resort someplace by myself. On a ship there is lots to do and people around.

Thanks for posting this thread....it's a concerning issue and I hope the HAL forum monitor let's this thread remain on this board...where it's easily seen and not moved to another board...

I haven't taken a solo cruise since my husband passed away a year ago...but I flew to Waikiki and stayed two months solo last fall...with the only daily "chore" of bobbing in the pool and watching the sunset....!!

I think the advice of taking a quieter, less-busy cruise at first is great...an easier transition to get pass any anxiety or potential problems....

    Thanks again for posting....:)

P.S. Books have been with me in Good times as well as bad. I can escape into a book and “ find myself “ in a new and exotic, or ancient location.  My books were a great help when we were all locked down and unable to travel .

I also escape in books....I don't watch television...in fact...I gave away all our televisions to family...:)

I have Netflix, Prime and OPB on my laptop and kindle....and my family often call and suggest a new movie or series to watch....they also tell me which ones have a "high-body count" to avoid...!!

I put them on my favorites list....and then.....start another book....😅

  10. These pictures probably look pretty puny compared to all the snow so many of you are dealing with.....but this is a big deal....

My granddaughter, her husband and their dog...this morning at the coast in Newport, Oregon.....where it rarely, ever, snows....😅

And...because it will drop to 21 tonight...I had to cancel my MRI tomorrow and reschedule for the 9th...oh well....it is pretty out there....😉

  11. I am also in the "3:00 AM" club...!!

It started a year ago when my DH was in the hospital....and I'm still waking at 3:00 if I'm lucky..........sometimes it's 1:00..........and on very rare nights I make it clear to 4:00....

I worried about it when I couldn't seem to get back in sync....but now I just roll with it and enjoy the early...very early....peace, quiet and the eventual sun coming up...

And...even tho I'm sitting on the west coast....I am usually one of the first to read the Daily.... 😅
