  1. Would my husband be allowed to check in separately?

We have 2 rooms, he is the the main name on his reservation. He is in a room with my 2 sons, one is 19, the other a minor. Would we all be allowed to check in earlier, and him later on, or would my sons not be able to board prior to him?

He will drop us off at the port with the luggage, and then return the rental car. It will probably be an hour before he returns. In the past we waited, but it was very congested. Looking for other options, but I don't know if they will allow us to check in separately.

There were guys in the cast?  Interesting.  The last time we were on board Wonder was November.  We are on board again and will see the show tonight.  It has always been 100% female cast before that.

How was the show? I read that they changed it up a bit.

Yes! There was at least 1 guy in the show, when they were bouncing on the line. Here is a picture:

Icon of the Seas. 6 LEGIT waterslides. Oasis class PERFECTED. there are 2 fast slides 4 medium paced, nothing slow at all. Frightening Bolt and Pressure Drop are FAST. Aside from the tallest waterslide at Coco Cay, the slides are just as good on Icon. Once the lines got too long at Coco Cay I got back on Icon, no lines and slides just as good.

Another reason to try Icon! After the disappointing slides on the other ships, I am still wary. I did love most of the slides on Cococay, but they were awful on my back. The tall one especially... did you wear a t shirt?

Adventure seems to be the fastest on RCL (but Carnival has several that are faster). Liberty slides are slow. Harmony has one slide that is pretty fast and the other is dog slow. That being said, the clothes you wear makes a bigger difference than just about anything. Using the right clothes litterally doubles or triples the speed. Wearing a rash-guard shirt pretty much means you are going to go slow or get stuck on most slides. Switch to a cotton t-shirt and shorts and it is twice as fast. No shirt is a little faster but then get rub marks on your back. With the right clothes, you can make it around and down the toilet bowl on Harmony. Even after 30+ cruises, I am still experimenting to see what clothes are the fastest 😉

I guess I really lucked out sailing on Adventure! I did not find the Harmony slides fast at all, and Wonder was even worse. I have yet to se anyone make it around the toilet bowl and not get stuck, so kudos to you!!

  5. Tell me about the fast waterslides on Royal Caribbean. What ships are they on??

I was so disappointed with the waterslides on all the Oasis class ships, and again with the body-slides on Liberty last week. They were so slow, and everyone kept on getting stuck. It didn't matter - thin people, heavy people, men, women, kids, long bathing suits, bikinis... It was so slow.

On Wonder, it got so hot and the smell of chlorine was suffocating, I was worried that I was going to pass out as I was barely moving.  Similar on other Oasis class. The toilet bowl / champagne glass one was better, but then everyone would inevitably get stuck and have to shimmy to get down.

The only fast slides I have been on were :

1 - On Adventure. These 2 body slides rocked! Super fast and fun. What other ship has slides like this? I had high hopes for Liberty, but they were similar to Oasis class.

2 - Liberty Tidal Wave was fantastic. So fun.

So you enjoyed the Wonder aqua show more than Oasis? I haven't seen the Wonder one yet, but I just know I see a majority of people say the one on Oasis is by far  the best one, so now I'm curious!

The aqua show on Wonder was a mostly female cast (I think the only guys were last minute replacements), and it was so refreshing seeing women playing powerful roles. The music and choreography were outstanding. I saw the one on Oasis a few times, and it was also spectacular, more like a typical aqua show. I also loved the twirling guy on Harmony. Is he still there??

Part of the reason I may also have liked the aqua show on Wonder more than other ships was because the entertainment on Wonder was so awful otherwise (besides the ice show). We sailed her only a few months after inaugural, and the only shows were Voices, a terrible comedian, and a magician we had seen the week prior.

Just goes to show how objective this topic can be.

Spectra’s Cabaret has been the absolute highlight of my cruise on the Anthem this week! I absolutely love the creativity of it!! I saw it 2 full times and ran up after dinner tonight to catch all but 10 minutes of it!

OK, now I definitely need to find it on YouTube!

  8. Just back from Liberty. Up In the Air was mind-blowing. I think it may be the best production show I have ever seen on any Royal Caribbean ship.

Up until now, my favorite shows were the water shows on Oasis class, with the best one (IMO) being the one on Wonder. Up In the Air even surpassed those, far superior to any main-theater production show on any of the other ships I have sailed for the past 25 years.

Which are your favorites, and why? And to those who have seen Up In The Air, what show (from which ship) do you feel was better?

I just saw this as a benefit of my "status."  But I always preorder the Wifi before sailing since it is so much cheaper.  So is there any value to having a "free day" at all?  Because if I wait till booking on board, and book 6n out of 7, even with the 7th being free, it would prob cost more.

Would love to hear how everyone is using this benefit.

    Thanks, Katherine

You can use your free day on a different device or for a travel companion, as you can only be logged into 1 device at a time.

  10. My 2 cents:

We did this itinerary last year and boarded in Rome. The whole cruise just felt off and disjointed. Like someone else mentioned, only around 1/3 or less of people boarded along with us.

There was no first day excitement, and the ship was empty as everyone was off in port in Rome. Our cruise planner was all screwed up, and all notifications the steward left in our room were addressed to the previous guests until Barcelona day. He said that is what always happens. We felt like we were dropped into the middle of others' cruise. On Barcelona day, that was an excursion day for us, but debarkation for the majority of the ship. We had to wait in the entire debarkation line to exit for our excursion, no separate line. Waited forever for a taxi. We had timed tickets for Sagrada Familia, and allowed a lot of extra time as I was worried this would happen. Others missed their entry time.

Sunday night was the Welcome night and welcome festivities, halfway through our cruise. .None of this was a big deal, just very disjointed. If everything is equal, I would recommend sailing from Barcelona.

They certainly had something similar to sushi at the Jade area just before the actual WJ starts I noticed this past October on Liberty....and we ate in the WJ every night.

Disclaimer....I hate sushi and passed by any/all of this...quickly so I'm not an expert.

OK, great to know! I will look out for it, then.

  12. I read that Liberty of the Seas offers free nightly sushi in the "Jade" section of the Windjammer because there is no Izumi onboard. I read elsewhere that they do longer offer this.

To anyone who has been on Liberty over the last year, is there nightly sushi at Jade / Windjammer, and what is typically offered? Even better if you have pictures 😀 Thanks.

We’re currently on Odyssey TA and also have everything service and I’ve seen our room attendant in the hall on some nights until 9.
Have you asked guest services to see if it’s just your attendant or it’s the whole ship?

I didn't want to make a big deal about and draw focus to him. We are Diamond Plus, and they may have asked him to work during his off time, which is NOT what we wanted. Rather, as was the case on every other cruise we have been on for the past 25 years, I would have preferred the standard evening hours extend to when passengers who opt for late seating are at dinner.

  14. On Serenade this past summer, we opted for evening cabin service. In all our years of cruising, the cabin steward would come while we were at dinner, and we mainly choose late seating. The cabin steward told us that he was off duty from 7:30 onwards, so if we wanted evening cabin service, it had to be prior to then. Since our dinner was at 8:00, we weren't planning on being out of the room prior to 7:30. We ended up changing to morning cabin service

Curious about other ships. Does evening cabin service end by 7:30 fleet wide?

  15. Anyone who sailed recently, were there still prizes for winners of the trivia contests?

I KNOW the prizes were lame, but I really did like the bag-in-a-bag and the pen / highlighter. In any case, on Serenade this past August, they eliminated all trivia prizes. The staff did not think this was the case on other ships, rather this was the decision of the CD. Curious about other ships.
