  1. I just got off this morning and last night there was a frantic search starting about 1:30am for a passenger. They started paging him over the intercom asking him to dial 777 to check in. At 1st the announcements could just be heard in the hallways, but after about an hour, the announcements were actually blasted right into the cabin itself. This went on until about 4:30 am. Ship security was obviously searching the ship. This morning the rumors were flying in all directions, everything from security cameras saw him jumping overboard to he was found passed out in someone else's cabin. In the morning there were police onboard and debarkation was delayed about an hour. Praying this young man is ok, does anyone have an update?

  2. I have my cruise bag always packed, and thought I had it all, but after my 12/17 Ruby cruise I have added a new item. Powered Gatorade. Yep, despite being a germaphobe and incredibly cautious, I was hit hard with the dreaded Norovirus along with hundreds of my fellow passengers. Spent 3 days of my 5 day cruise in the cabin. You can't even buy Gatorade on board. Dehydration is a serious issue.

  3. I just got off the Ruby Princess and was in C753, a corner aft view balcony. We loved it, knew we would. It is extremely quiet and private. I never once heard anyone access the stairwell that could be used in an emergency. I do have a picture, but I don't think that is what you wanted. BTW, the regular balconies on Caribe were a bit larger than out aft corner.

  4. Sorry you got sick. That takes a big chunk out of your 5 day. :(

Thanks, It sure did....I thought I was doing everything right. And to think, I was just trying not to catch a cold or the flu. My husband is going through chemo and my mom's health is precarious at 86, I didn't want to share any nasty germs for the holidays. I finally feel human again and ate some real food tonight and I got sick on Monday. I hope they get a handle on this, I don't want anyone else's cruise effected.

  5. I just got off the Ruby Princess and I can tell you that despite being a "germaphobe" and taking every precaution I somehow contracted the dreaded norovirus and I don't remember ever being so sick. I wiped everything down including light switches and TV remote with Clorox wipes when entering my cabin for the 1st time. I always pay special attention to the bathroom and wipe down everything, especially the shelves, vanity and faucet. As always, I brought antibacterial pump hand soap for both of the bathrooms. I washed my hands thoroughly and often, especially right before eating. Used public restrooms sparingly. Avoided hands to mouth, eyes and nose. I am a frequent cruiser, have never been sick, but this time, I got my butt kicked. I was very sick and did not leave my cabin for 2 1/2 days of my 5 day cruise. Fortunately, I was the only 1 in our group of 4 that got sick. I experienced severe dehydration and weakness like I've never had before. It was helpful that I had pre-ordered 2 24 packs of water and needed that to help with dehydration. I wish I knew how/where I picked it up so I could warn you, but I have wracked my brain and don't have a clue. I have added a new item to my cruise packing list and that is powdered Gatorade, I sure wish I would have had some of that to replace lost electrolytes. Whatever number you may have heard regarding sick passengers, I bet it is double. Don't ever want to experience that again.....

Needless to say, probably my least favorite of all my cruises.

  6. I have found that the best person to ask about a platinum gift exchange is your room steward. They seem to have access to the gift closet (or their boss does) and are motivated by the possibility of an extra tip (and please do tip if they go to the effort to get you the gift you have your heart set on). Guest services couldn't care less and have no motivation to get you what you want. I was very happy when they found me another set of packing cubes after that gift had been off the radar for a few months.

  7. We are on a 5 day to Cabo in December. I am trying to book a 5 hour deep sea fishing trip the 2nd today that departs at 6:30 am. Will be be able to get off the ship by tender early enough to meet the fishing boat? This was not offered as an excursion through Princess or we would have booked that.

I can't seem to find the info anywhere.

And yes I do know we have to be back on board before 1pm and have discussed that in depth with the charter company.

Thanks in advance for any info.

  8. I've cruise both lines and each has it's own merits. As far as sheer beauty of the ship...hands down the Ruby Princess. Many, many sailings with teens who are now all 20 somethings and I think they would all choose Carnival. They are not party animals, but just seem to have a better time on Carnival. I'm taking 2, 21 year old boys on Princess next month and we picked Princess because we all love Cabo. If Carnival still had a 5 day to Cabo, we likely would be sailing Carnival again.

I personally think the food is better on Carnival, but that's just me. I was disappointed in MDR offerings on my last Princess cruise.

I am looking forward to the beauty and elegance of the Ruby Princess as Carnival decor is "interesting" to say the least. If you or your young adults have any specific questions, I would be happy to answer upon our return.

I was booked on the Miracle last Jan. and had a terrible car accident the night before departure, and literally "missed the boat", so she is still on my cruise bucket list. At the holidays the 5 day Cabo got us back in time to spend Christmas with the rest of the family.

There is no doubt we will all have a fabulous time and you will too, not matter your choice.

  9. There was a time when I went a little bit overboard at the art auctions. The result is that I am now the proud owner of 4 tubes full of pieces I don't remember, as I have never framed them and hung them. I haven't even looked at them years. After a while, my philosophy changed and now if I liked a piece enough to buy it, I have Park West frame it. Their frames are quite nice and they come ready to hang. One large piece did arrive with a damaged frame, and it was replaced quickly and without issue.

  10. We also really enjoyed the Mango Deck. Jet ski rentals are right there. The water taxis can be quite an adventure and can be dangerous if the waves are big. This is more of an issue trying to get back on than being dropped (jumping) off. You will get wet either way so make sure your cell phone and other valuables are in a waterproof case. In December we might look into getting there via land taxi vs water taxi.

  11. In May I took my son and 2 nephews on the Inspiration as they had all turned 21 in the past months. I had broken my tibia and patella in a bad fall and was either in a wheel chair or on crutches. I stayed onboard and sent them on a deep sea fishing trip. If the weather had been nicer I would have been parked on the Serenity deck, but instead I just relaxed and checked out some of the trivia games. I wasn't going to cancel the cruise, so I made the best of it. I will admit, had it been somewhere other than Ensenada, I would have made more of an effort to enjoy the port.
