  1. Has the O/P received an answer? I am cruising in April 2024 and there is no info about the Beach Club for our sailing either. I am aware there are many public areas, my husband and I enjoy the beach club and we will be with a friend who has never been and wants to try it. Does anyone know why it is not available on these bookings? (Our travel agent doesn't know either)

Congratulations! To you and everyone that was selected.  I'm so jealous.

I will definitely be following this thread🤩

As you are concerned about the test maybe get one this week, call your test run to find out the process and help ease your anxiety.  getting one really is easy to do.

That's not a bad idea - I might consider that. Thanks!

33tekfan--Congrats on getting to take part in the Oasis simulation cruise. Even as a test, you'll have a great time.

Don't worry much about the covid test, I think many places(Our CVS does this) have you twirl the swab in your nostril a few times on each side, then drop in in a tube, snap on the cap, seal it in a baggie and hand over the sealed bag. I've done it twice recently due to exposure and it wasn't uncomfortable at all.

Have you sailed Oasis before? If not you'll love it.

Thanks for the info! My husband has had 2, neither one he did himself but my son has had multiple due to his work and school and some he did himself and some were administered for him. I've just read too many Facebook posts where people exaggerate how far they go in 🤣. I'm going to suck it up and be brave though, this is worth it!
We have sailed Oasis, twice actually and once on Allure. The Oasis class is my favorite, followed closely by the Freedom class. Wasn't a big fan of Anthem, but I wouldn't necessarily say no to cruising on her again, just not my favorite.

I am not on Facebook so I will hang here!  We are registered and awaiting stateroom assignment also.  It is surreal as I just asked my husband about two weeks ago if he would go if we got picked.

Never in a million years did we expect that email🥳

    Marietta and Charlie

Funny story... I didn't even know my husband had entered the drawing. He was like, "Um... we got picked for a simulation cruise and we leave in two weeks." 🤣

  5. I searched for this topic but didn't see a thread devoted specifically to this sailing so I apologize if there is one and I missed it.

Who else is on this simulation? It's my husband and me, we'll be driving from Maine. Nothing is showing up on the app for us yet but we are anxiously awaiting our room assignment!

(As a weird side note, I am most nervous about the COVID test required beforehand as I have not once yet been tested through the whole pandemic!)

  6. Hi All,

Daniel G. is going to be our Genie in a few weeks on Allure. Any experiences anyone would like to share? We are not high maintenance so we don't expect any problems but we've never traveled in Star Class before so we'd like an idea of what to expect.

    Thanks in advance!

  7. I am trying to help my daughter navigate through travel insurance. She and her fiance (husband when they travel as this will be their honeymoon) were asked by their travel agent if they want insurance. They are both 22 and healthy, so coverage would only be if something were to happen on the trip that required medical assistance or an airlift. Their travel agent offers two plans through Allianz : the low end and the high end policies. There is a "middle" policy which Allianz touts on their website as their most popular plan, but the travel agent is not offering them that option. That is the policy that would seem to work best for them as far as coverage vs. cost. Our questions are:

    1. What is a reasonable amount of coverage for a medical evacuation? I know this is subjective, but in your opinions or experience, how much could that typically cost?

    2. What are the benefits (if any) to buying the policy through the agent, rather than purchasing it on their own?

    Any help is appreciated!

  8. Thank you. I'll keep looking.

I found out we were on a chartered cruise when I looked for our cruise group date on Facebook and saw that a charter group had started a page! Maybe try looking there? We emailed our TA immediately, she called RCI, and they had no info. Sure enough, several weeks later, we got the email that we were bumped.

  9. We hit the Champagne & Martini Bar for a Bombay Sapphire martini and Cosmopolitan. I’ve been a big fan of the Champagne bars from the first one I went to on the Monarch of the Seas back when she was the biggest thing afloat (she has not been decommissioned, but instead sent down to the minors with Pullmantur). Sadly, the one on Allure is slotted to be refit as an R Bar. Sigh.

What is an R Bar? I have not heard of this yet.

  10. This isn't a question about whether or not you tip and whether it is via cash or prepaid or auto gratuity added to your account daily. It IS a question about people's opinions of whether or not service has diminished since the placement of auto gratuities.

For me and my family, we felt, sadly, that service was not up to the standard we have come to expect from RCI. On our last cruise, we felt the service was just ok. It wasn't awful, but it certainly wasn't the great service we've experienced in the past. We have not sailed on the same ship twice yet, so I am looking forward to our next cruise when we return to a ship we've already sailed on. That might give me more insight...maybe it's not the auto-grats, maybe it's just the particular ship we last sailed on. Who knows? I'm just curious to know if anyone else feels that service has been affected.

  11. Technically, unless you saw the list with your own eyes, you can only confirm what someone told you. How do you know what the waiter was looking at? Did he/she show it to you?

Just a question... For what purpose would the waiter be "checking his list" in the MDR anyway ? If I opted out of automatic gratuities with the intent to pay in person and I felt that my waiter checked his list and adjusted his service down because he assumed I was stiffing him then that would be what I call a self fulfilling prophecy. Actually, it would make much more sense for the waiter to choose that person to treat better in order to still get a tip. The prepaid people are pretty much a guarantee.

This is a discussion that will obviously never be resolved. There will always be at least 2 camps and both firmly believe what they believe. I don't really care what anyone does about tip. I will do what I choose based on my own feelings. As I have said before, we have the freedom to choose and I have no right to judge. But assumptions and misinformation bother me and I like to know the truth so that I can make an honest and informed decision. So when I question comments made on this board, it is not to be confrontational, but just to try to get to the truth.

    Amen.

  12. On our recent Oasis this varied..seemed like during busy times they did and other's they didn't.

JMHO....but the WJ on the Oasis was my least favorite out of all the RCI ships I've sailed on..I usually prefer the WJ but not on this ship...too much like a feeding frenzy...and was pestered constantly by staff to take my plate away..even when it was apparent that I wasn't done...and made the mistake of both DH and myself getting up at the same time to get something else and our table was quickly cleared before we could get back..even with still full drinks and my sweater at the table :mad:

I agree. To be fair, the WJ is my least favorite place on any of the ships I've been on, but on Oasis I felt it was the worst. I did not experience anyone being seated, it was rather chaotic. Too chaotic for my liking.

  13. Was soooo excited to get our cruise ticket booklet and luggage tags today for Alaska cruise sailing June 13, 2014. That was until I read that RCCL has changed their smoking policy. Ugh! Frustrating since I specifically checked their policy prior to booking our 3 balcony cabins. Now I don't smoke but my DH does so I made sure he could smoke on balcony prior to booking. That is main reason I did not book the celebrity because they didn't allow smoking on balcony. We are not club, casino or bar people, we were looking forward to enjoying private time on our balcony (in my Jammie's) admiring the Alaska scenery with a cocktail and a smoke for the hubby. We should have been notified much earlier by travel agent and RCCl of this major change so that we could have made other arrangements. All both could say is oh well policies change.. Really!! Now I get it for all the non smokers but there has to be a happy medium. The cruise lines should really look into having non smoking and smoking balcony areas. The smoker's cruise enjoyment is no less important than a non smoker's cruise enjoyment. Funny how they are still allowing smoking in casinos.. Feeling very frustrated at this point!

If you worked with a travel agent, and she/he knew of your preferences, then they should have let you know. This isn't new though (unless I missed something recently)...the rules were changed in September 2013, and they took effect on January 1,2014.

  14. I fell in love with the Oasis Frozen Lemonade offered at the bars onboard. Six quarts of the Island Oasis lemonade is being delivered to my house tomorrow.😃 Does anyone know the recipe for this drink? I believe Ketel vodka was used, but not sure of proportions. Plan on using my Ninja for the shaved ice. Any help?

I think those are the only two ingredients - vodka and Island Oasis Lemonade. Maybe just test it out with different proportions and see which you like best :D

  15. I've done that route several times. I prefer to stay on the starboard side because when you're in the ports you face land and can see what's going on etc. The port side will leave you facing out to see while you're docked. It really depends on what you prefer.

Agreed! They *usually* dock Starboard. We like to watch for runners from our balcony...lol!

  16. Too many responses to quote you all but thanks to each of you for your replies. It will be our first time sailing with DDs and although they are well behaved (in public at least! LOL!) I will find an other quiet spot to read next to them when they will want to spend some time with their mama!

They have travelled many times before but different kind of voyage, so on this first cruise it is important for my DH and I to teach them that rules should be respected when living on board with so many travellers.

    Thanks again! :)

    You rock. :D
