  1. Thank-you, pbsteve, not only for setting up this poll, but also for providing the type of information on e-cigs that I was prepared to search for on my own. I am a smoker, and have been for many years. When we booked our upcoming cruise on the Breeze (for May 2015) this past May, it was with the knowledge (at that time) that I would be able to smoke on my balcony. And now, with the over-whelming pressure from non-smokers, yet another business has caved in to the demands of one group over another. So now, I'm faced with making a decision. Do I ignore this new ban and smoke on my balcony anyhow, at the risk of possibly getting caught and having to pay an absolutely arbitrary and ridiculous fine? Do I try nicotine gum? Do I try switching to e-cigs? ( Not that it matters here, but I hate the word "vaping". If I make the switch, I may try to come up with something that I like better). Do I cancel the cruise? Well, I'm not much of a gambler (casinos are boring to me), so the first option is out. I've tried nicotine gum before and didn't really care for it. We've been planning this cruise for about two years and are really looking forward to it, so I really don't want to cancel it. So that leaves me with going to e-cigs. We've booked a cove balcony, which is on Deck 2. To (legally) smoke a cigarette, I'd have to go up nine decks to deck 11 just so I could smoke a cigarette, and cuss out every non-smoker along the way. Not my idea of a "fun" cruise. I know that e-cigs are included in the ban, which I don't understand. However, I'm thinking that, even though they're included in the ban, puffing on an e-cig on my balcony may be less noticeable than a real cigarette. I've already called Carnival's Guest Relations number, but the lady I spoke with wasn't much help. She did give me the mailing address for Carnival Guest Care. It probably won't do much good, but I'm going to write a letter to try and get more info as to why e-cigs are included in the ban. In the meantime, I've got about ten months until our cruise. Next step for me is to read customer reviews on the various e-cigs currently on the market, and try a couple of (or more) disposables to see if I can find one I like. After this cruise, I may consider giving Norwegian a try, unless they ban smoking on balconies too.

We have not smoked since Jan 19th. We were preparing for our March cruise, after RC cut the balcony smoking. We have been doing the "v-word" ever since. Vape shops are popping up here in our town like crazy. Do not miss the cigs at all. Check out you tube for a lot of info. Indoor Smokers on you tube-that guy is pretty funny. But he is also a Washington resident....

  2. Does anyone know why they cancelled the cruises?

I am on the glory April 18 and would like to know if mine will get cancelled before I go and book flights.

All I know is that they are going to do some short cruises during that time. Not much of an explanation. Sorry! They really did not give us one.

Lucky you! I wish I went on the breeze. I sailed the Glory twice last year and on the second time I sailed her I cut my big toe really bad in the theater. It was awful. I wont be sailing on the glory anytime soon again lol

Funny how things work out, I guess we were just meant to go on the Breeze. Enjoy your upcoming Southern, ours was so amazing. Also enjoy your first Royal cruise. We are planning on having a great time on our first Carnival cruise. :D

  3. From Kansas as well. Yep, have to fly to every port. But then it opens up the options. My favorite one so far. (we are new too) was this past spring break. From San Juan, as others have said. A B2B with...St Thomas, St Croix, Antigua, Martinique, St Lucia, Tortola, St Maarten, St Kitts, Dominica, & Barbados. It was amazing. We started off with The Allure as our first ship. 2nd was another southern (with Aruba & Curacao) with a huge aft balcony. So I think we are doing it all backwards. :p Ha. There is always something new to try with each one, so we are going to keep cruising and try out as much as we can. Our next new thing is a Carnival ship with slides, inside room, and a western route.

The ports would depend on what you like to do. Some are better for land based excursions...St Lucia & Dominica. Some are better for the water excursions, Barbados & Tortola. (our experiences) Go for what appeals to you and enjoy being a cruise addict!!

  4. I want to be sure I understand what Carn offered you when you changed to the 8 day Conquest on mar 21. I am dealing with my TA And want to get it right.

I believe you are saying Carn allowed you to pay the same amount you paid for the Glory trip for the first 7 days on Conquest. This would be the cruise fare only. Then they divided the cruise fare on the Conquest trip by 8 to get the last day fare on the Conquest and added that. Then of course there are the new Conquest fees, taxes etc to add too. I presume you had to keep the same cabin category too when you changed. Am I correct?

We were on the Glory b/b march 28 trip too, and may do the 6 day trip on the 29 continuing on the Conquest instead. This will allow us to leave on our booked airfare day. Same deal available I presume? Thank you so much....

Wow! That is a headache as well. What they did for us (but we are doing the Breeze) They took the fare for the 7 day, divided it by 7 and multiplied it by 8. So our daily fee for the Glory is our daily fee for the Breeze. Then you have the taxes and fees, etc. Really wishing you the best of luck. Talk to someone in resolutions. (think that is the name) Hope everyone in your group still wants to go. Good luck with the rooms you want as well. We requested our same rooms. When they dumped us on the Splendor..our 4 rooms-2 weeks were all over...from an inside to..spa inside with the kids on 2 floors below. I cant imagine what room assignments some of those cruisers got?

    Best wishes to all!!

  5. We were with you on the Glory, March 21 too. We were able to switch to Conquest, needed the same week and didn't want to do Western Splendor (just did that cruise this past March) and no 2.0...need my Guy's burger fix. Maybe your DH and I had the same person on the phone, she was great and got the price match for the first seven days and only add the per day (divided) for our same cabin on the 8 day sailing.

Hope it all works out for everyone else!!

That is good news as well. Yes it was quite a kick in the  for a moment but looks like we will all have a great time still, just not what we thought. Funny how things work out.

  6. Thanks everyone! Yes it was frustrating. But it did work out. DH was able to speak to someone who helped us. At first the price match was not going to help. Switched from a 7 day to a 6 day. :(. But she spent more time and got approval to price match the 8 day. (dividing cost/day) This was the best call we have experienced with Carnival so far. Redemption here! So now we are doing the B2B on the Breeze. 3rd time is a charm right. ;). We also were able to score lido insides for both weeks. Will miss 2 ports I really looked forward to, but will pick up one I was sad to miss from the last change. And we have a great ship! Guess we were just meant to be on this ship. :D

  7. Venting..First time trying Carnival and this is the SECOND time they have cancelled our cruise. The first time we had Conquest and they STUCK us on Splendor,(no 2.0) We changed to the Glory. B2B, got the rooms we liked, excel of excursions we like, airfare purchased, FTTF purchased etc... Now our second week is cancelled. Is this the way it normally goes? Yes it is a long way off, but really? How many times do we need to adjust our vacation in the next year? 2 cancellations in 2 months?? Really Carnival??

  8. Thanks for all the info. Hoping we do not have to stand in a line at the beginning of our B2B, but if we do at least it should be short. Maybe we will get lucky and get the new cards before. Shall see, and hey, its a full week ahead to relax. :D. We have only done one B2B, San Juan/RC and there was about 60 others doing the same. What would be a 'normal' for Miami and Carnival? Both are spring break.
