  1. Just completed our boarding passes on line for Adventure of the Seas. First change I noticed was the request for a mug shot similar to your passport photo. The photo that we attached will be partof our SeaPass card so I guess that means no photos upon check in. Youuse this boarding pass that we just printed to check in. Although I didread all the instructions about check in to see what has changed & it appearswe do have a few changes. I’m not sure if those just apply to the newerships or if, when this one was in dry dock, they upgraded that part of thesystem. I think it might be for the newer ships because there was thenote about your SeaPass card being used to activate power in your stateroom. Mostly whatI am referring to here is the room key. It’s more like a hotel keyconcept now where you just swipe it across the plate instead of insertingit. Something else that I saw, which we didn’t really care for, is that“your SeaPass card will be placed outside your cabin in a sealed envelope withyour name on it”. So (a) you don’t get it until you get to your cabininstead of when you check in & (b) that doesn’t sound very secure justhaving them outside your door. Anyone could take it. Ihope that is just on the newer ships. Any recent travelers that can answer my question about this?

  2. We just returned from a cruise mid March of this year. Husband plays the craps table, I play slots. He always gets a free cruise & I get $$$ to be applied towards a cruise. We each get a certificate with a list of cruises you can apply it towards. We already have three cruises booked so no need for a "free cruise" BUT if you read the fine print $1000 can be applied towards a cruise already booked with them. So, translated for us, that took $1400 off our March 2019 cruise. We were able to do that last year as well. Our travel agent took care of it for us by calling Casino Royale.

  3. Just curious.....husband has been diagnosed with sleep apnea & now has a CPAP machine. Considering the set up of the cabins, one outlet at the desk, it will be necessary to bring an extension cord as well as distilled water. I called R/C & talked to a very nice rep who flagged our reservation & said the ship would provide us with both the extension cord & a gallon of distilled water. Anyone have experience with this? I guess I'm just looking for reassurance that will happen. Almost seemed too good to be true.

  4. Just looked at the Galveston web cam. Looks like the port is fogged in again. When we first logged in you could just barely see the ship in port. A few minutes later not at all. Almost looked like it was listing to the right. Was it scheduled to leave port today? Looks like they might have an overnight in port if they have already boarded. Anyone on board the Vision this afternoon? We leave from Galveston next week-end so we've been watching the web cam. Glad we have planned to go in a day early & stay over until Monday.

  5. I guess my question is what is Plan B? Yesterday Liberty of the Seas was delayed by fog coming into port. They moved boarding up to 5:30 that afternoon with a scheduled departure of 8:30. So.....how do they handle the dinner hour? Is it an automatic "My Time" dining since there is no way you can make your scheduled seating? Under normal circumstances, the kitchen staff would be there preparing your dinner while you are boarding. That would make me think that the dining room would be open but I don't know how they would handle the seating. Muster drill has to take place too before you leave port. Also wondered about those who were leaving the ship so late that day as they did not get into port until afternoon. Were they offered a light lunch? Maybe I should stick with what I was always told about traveling.....never leave home without food in your backpack! We'll be taking part in the great adventure in a couple weeks & expect fog delays. Staying over until Monday just to have a relaxing departure in case there is fog again.

  6. You're getting into "hurricane season" at that time of year. We did a New England coast cruise in 2015 at this same time. Coming back into port in Boston we were sailing into a big tropical storm working its way up the coast line. Last night at sea was a little rough but it didn't bother us. Another time we did a quick four day to Nassau in mid October & it was beautiful weather all four days. So you never know. Think of it as an adventure!

  7. Galveston is well known for its fog delays, especially now & into March. Watch the posts on the board. A few weeks ago a ship did not get into port until 1:30 in the afternoon due to fog. Because of this & also because we fly into Houston we always stay over a day & leave out of Houston on Monday. If, like they say, weather permitting, & all goes well, yes, you could start your departure as early as seven. We only did that once, our first cruise out of Galveston, & the self departure was a nightmare. It wound through dining rooms, the casino, out onto the deck & back into the ship. Hallways were jammed with people & luggage. If you were lucky enough to catch an elevator you almost could not get out of them because of the congestion. Took quite a while to get off the ship & I was starting to worry about our flight. And it was cold & damp on the deck! We made our flight but decided it was not worth the stress to try that again!

  8. Formal night.......sports jacket & tie or open shirt or a suit with tie. You'll see a little of everything. Some guys show up in a tux or rent one from the ship. They don't turn you away at the door if you are not dressed "formally". Jeans will look a little out of place that night. They have relaxed the dress code more but like I said, it's not enforced.

  9. We ran into the same thing. This cruise leaves earlier than most so to reduce the stress level we are going in a day early, staying at the Hampton Inn by the airport. They have a shuttle to & from the airport. On the day of departure we will go back to baggage claim at the airport & snag a ride with the Royal Caribbean shuttle bus. We have done this before & it's worked great. Also flying Southwest into Newark. Booked a much later flight for the return, around 3:35 so no stress there.

  10. We were on this cruise just last week. Astoria is a smaller seaside village. Reminded me of Bar Harbor. I would suggest you go to the Maritime Museum there. There is a shuttle you can take from the port, $6 per person, good for the day. They put a sticker on your jacket. Great nautical displays along with a couple others I really enjoyed seeing. One being a small boat with a hole in the side. It was a boat that was washed ashore in Astoria from the tsunami in Japan. Also be sure to see Michael Mather's photo display, "On the Inside Looking Out". Several collages of pictures taken around Astoria literally from the inside looking out onto Astoria, homes, businesses, cars, etc. Wonderful collection. We had lunch at the Buoy Beer Company on the waterfront. Another stop I would recommend. Good food, good service. They have a small Plexiglas window in the floor where you can look down & see the sea lions. We went to the Butchart Gardens in Victoria. Highly recommended. Even in the fall it was very colorful & enjoyable to walk through.

  11. Looking for suggestions for transportation from Seattle airport to pier for two people. We would have four bags so not sure a cab would be such a good idea. Perhaps a shuttle service? Sailing with Royal Caribbean so booking with them is also a consideration except our return flight falls into their category of "too early" to assure that we would make our flight. So, something besides the cruise line.

  12. I was surprised too to find this. There was also several printed pages like it was part of a presentation or otherwise work related. Obviously you cannot expect the cruise line to release any passenger info. Might try Facebook when I get home. Not everyone knows about Cruise Critic. It was apparent that someone had spent a great deal of time on this project. I was just lucky to find the receipt with his name & the date. Not giving up yet! Thanks for all your comments & suggestions! I may check into the roll call tomorrow.

  13. Looking for passenger, Collin White, Liberty, 02-22-16. We are on board now & in your cabin from the previous cruise. We found three tablets in the desk drawer that you must have left behind by mistake along with a receipt from Sorrento's for that date. Not sure if the tablets have work related notes that you need back? Looks like computer code? I'll be happy to take them with me & see that they get returned to you when we get home.

  14. The Compass I saw with the link that was given indicates that the time you can go is determined by your muster station number. That's a new concept! Not sure how this will work but we are about to find out in a couple weeks. They also have a "stand by" option where any open seats are available just before the show starts. Sounds like it pays not to be late if you have tickets!

  15. Your question about the 5:30 time for early dining hasn't really been answered. That is the correct time. They allow approximately two hours for each seating. Next seating is at 8:00. That gives them about thirty minutes to clear & re-set tables. We've always preferred the early dining time. It gets you out just in time to see the shows. Plus, if you don't stay up until the wee small hours of the morning, you won't be going to bed on a full stomach.
