  1. She couldn’t answer my question about resolution of the pictures saved on the flash drive being high enough to print 8x10s but that won’t be a huge deal breaker. Seems like as long as you would normally purchase at least 4-5 pictures on a cruise it would be a good deal.

The file size of the digitals in our HAL package varies from 500kb to 6Mb. They included the original photo’s (the large files). They also edit the files onboard (touchup and add template). Make sure that you also get the originals because the edited files are way smaller (and perhaps less optimal for 8”x10”).

  2. Do you know if this something you an only purchase after boarding? I checked my upcoming cruise in October and no digital prepurchase packages show up.

    Thanks, Tammie

On Koningsdam it was a pilot (trying out different package-types). A similar pilot runs on Eurodam. That may be the reason that you cannot see it before youn are on the ship. Since they won’t sell out, that should not be a problem.

  3. She responded to my note and said I can give out the email -- northcapesightseeing@gmail.com. Those who already paid with KO Sand will be fine, she is taking over the reservations.

Just received an email from the booking agency (Finnmark, the company behind nordkapp.no). Ko Sand is bankrupt. If you cancel the prepaid excursion now, you will receive 100% refund from Finnmark. After april 17th the prepaid money might be part of the liquidation process of Ko Sand and you risk losing the money. You can rebook with other companies on their website. Monika’s tour is not yet bookable on the Finnmark website. Monika is working on that.

  4. Consider staying in Mestre. No bridges there and only 5-10 mins by train or bus to Venice. We loved the Plaza hotel opposite Mestre train station. Otherwise you will be stuck with the Santa Chiara hotel at Piazzale Roma.

  5. Did you stay in the annexe or the main hotel? The annexe is very much cheaper and obviously lower quality. The reviews for the annexe seem to be poor whereas those for the main hotel are good.

We stayed in the hotel, not the annex. I especially did not like the bed bugs (and the ships doctor bill for treatment afterwards), but the beds were uncomfortable as well. Since then we never stayed in Venice again but preferred Mestre (Plaza, just opposite the station). Just 5 minutes by train from Venice. Also better for visiting Padova, Verona, etc. I must say this was before they expanded the hotel building so could be better now.

  6. The hotel seems nice and in a good location for us so hopefully I'll hear back or someone knows of another email address.

We stayed there a couple of years ago. The only upside is the location (close to bus and train). Not a very nice hotel at all. Consider the Best Western around the corner if you want to be close to train or bus.

  7. Anyhow... Anyone have a good Company they recommend from Livorno to cinque terre?

We used Joe Banana Limo (joebananalimos.net) for our tour to Cinque Terre and were very impressed with their service.

  8. I read that Eurodam is for older crowds and was wondering if there are gonna be any kids on our summer cruise ( 12 night ) ?!?!

    Thanks !

In the mid summer you should expect 200-400 kids (under 18) on the ship. Perhaps a little less beginning of july or end of august

  9. Have you used Rome Cabs for independent tours and/or transfers? We are going in a 1 1/2 days early and would love to do a private tour and transfers, but want to make sure it is with a good company.

    Yes. Loved them each time.

  10. Has anyone been to Padova (Padua), Italy. It is only about 30 minutes from Venice. Any input will be appreciated. :)

Great city. Visit the Giotto chapel, the university and the town square. Only 30 mins from Venice. Verona however is even better but takes over one hour on the high speed train

  11. Yes we stayed there twice when we were in Rome pre or post cruise. Fine hotel, great breakfast but quite far from the sights. You need the hotel shuttle bus, the public bus or taxi (all on or close to the premises) to get to the historic center.

  12. I have asked and got replies about the trains from Venice to Rome already but here is my question. A friend doing a cruise next year said that there is a high speed train from Venice to Rome that only takes about an hour. When I said the info I got from asking here on the Italian Port thread was that it took about 3 1/2 hours he said there was a faster one. My questions is of course.....Is there a train from Venice to Rome that only takes about an hour?

Thanks for all your help, yet again lol!!!!

Probably a rocket... Venice to Florence is 2 hours. On to Rome is another 1,5 hours. That is on the fastest trains that do 160 mph.

  13. On a monday that might work. The lines at st Peters are very long. If you buy tickets to the vatican museum your get in at a designated time and you can visit st Peters afterwards.

On a tuesday st Peters sometimes closes at 1 PM due to the Papal audience on wednesday
