  1. There was a veteran's meeting on the Grandeur in late May. There were vets as old as WWII. That night they called out all vets to sing the national anthem on the steps at the Centrum. I was proud to be one of the vets who was thanked for my service to my country.

  2. We were on the Getaway in June/July also & the time didn't change at all. Don't know how it'll be when the time changes here in November. They don't change time there to Daylight Saving Time like they do here in NC. So I think it'll be an hour ahead of local time here. But once it changes on the ship, it should be the same until it changes back. Hope it makes sense to you. (I've had a stroke & sometimes it makes sense to me & not to other people. Sorry!)

  3. I was stationed in Puerto Rico in the Navy in the early '70's. They would say it would rain almost every day, and it would rain for maybe 10 minutes. Then the sun would come out & it would be hotter than ever. Don't sweat rain there, it'll stop soon anyway. Rarely will you get a nasty, rainy day there.

  4. My DW & I got the $200 one, with the robes included on our last cruise. I got it because my DW wore out the robes from our first cruise (in 2000) & I thought it would be nice to get her new ones.

The robes were in the cabin when we got there, along with the champagne & vanilla cupcakes. There were also a booklet with coupons for the free picture & frame & some of the other items. The champagne was very good. We gave the cupcakes to the room steward.

The breakfast in bed includes a mimosa or bloody mary & had choices of things like Spanish omelet or scrambled eggs with cavier. Actually quite nice.

The picture we got free was a formal light pix, the free frame was very nice.

The pre dinner appetizers were decent & the good night snacks were good Chocolate Covered Strawberrys & other sweets.

I keep thinking I'm missing something in this deal, but the package with the robes is a great deal & I think the champagne is a step up from the $100 package. My DW reminded me of the other thing, flowers were in the room. She says we've gotten better flowers on the ship, but she doesn't know I've spent more on them than I told her I did.

We were both happy with what we got & when she wears out the robes, we'll do it again. BTW, the cabin steward brought us robes to use on the ship so we didn't have to open the take home ones.

  5. Thanks for the laughs, I had a long week at work (even though Monday was a holiday) & I needed a laugh.

I haven't met too many rude people on cruises & if I encounter any, I, more often than not, ignore them.

My mother is 87 years old & is one of the sweetest people to ever walk this earth. But, she's prone to getting various types of infections. When she does, she gets rude and nasty. When we visit her & she's nasty, we know she has an infection & a hospital stay is in order. One time, she was in a nursing home for rehab after a hospital stay. My niece (her granddaughter) came to tell her she was pregnant & my mother wouldn't open her eyes. Well, the niece told her the news & my mother just said "What's that to me?" I couldn't apologize enough to my poor niece. Later that day, they sent her back to the hospital. Another infection. Her mother (my grandma) was called Granny Grumps, I guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. My poor kids when I get older!

  6. US Dollars are universally accepted in the Caribbean.

Much to the dismay of many "Dress Code Police" posters here on CC, a shirt & tie & a nice pair of pants (not shorts!) & your BF will be fine. I, personally don't care what anyone wears. I don't usually look, especially at guys:D. I do wear a suit or a tux, but that's me.

  7. We were on the Caribbean Princess last year. We had Anytime dining which worked out fine every night except on my wife's birthday! That night when we got there, they said it would be an hour & a half to two hour wait! My wife was very upset & going thru menopause, it was not a good time for me either. Somehow, this was my fault! Anyway, I took her back to our room & went back to the dining room & literally begged the Maitre d' for a table. I tried to tip (bribe) him, he wouldn't take my money, but found us a table for two. I called my wife & we were seated with one of the best wait staff we have ever had. They even gave us a free "shot of the day". They saved by butt big time.

  8. You definitely want to use Newark. Even if the others looked closer, the traffic from the NYC would kill you. The Newark airport is at exit 14 of the NJ Turnpike, Bayonne is at exit 14C on the Newark Bay Extension of the NJTP(also known as the eastern spur). I don't know the mileage, but it can't be much more than 10 miles. BTW I'm from Central Jersey, but I work in North Jersey & travel that area a lot.
