  1. There are several sets of walls and defences going from the first century BC and up to the 17th Century. Several wells for their water supply.
  2. Now off on a walk around he old town followed by a visit to the Nin salt works and the Royal vineyard. The entrance gate to the old town. And the old moat which opens into the sea.
  3. Leaving Sibernek via the narrow channel in the dark. Sunday morning finds us steaming into Zadar. Now docked. A long walkway on the pier. .
  4. We have been able to check in just before midday on our last 2 cruise in the last 6 months.
  5. We will always book another excursion when our initial choice is waitlisted. That said we have rarely had a waitlisted excursion when the waitlisted one hasn’t cleared. Simple excursions such as walking around an old town often have extra trips added. For example on my tour in Trieste initially there were 3 times to pick from. On the day there were 10 different times. However when you know you are not going to take a tour please let them know. I have sat on too many buses waiting for booked passengers to arrive when they were aware they were not going.
  6. For wines we went for the complimentary offers. Absolutely pointless Rojaan having the wine pairing. She was in luck as the white was Tiki. This was the red for the night. For starter Rojaan had the lobster salad. Nore lobster than the Atlantide version the only difference. I wanted to have dishes not on other menus so had the snails then the souffle entree. A lemon sorbet was then served. For mains we both had the fillet. Rojaan well done whilst mine was rare, maybe bleu. For desserts Rojaan had the crepe and I the souffle. Then petit sixes even though we don't drink coffee in the evening. Was it worth it? Well the food is better than the othere restaurants but not enough to warrant the extra cost. On the Moon and Dawn it is now too large and no real special atmosphere.
  7. That night it was our one night in La Dame. The decorations and set up. So start with a champagne. Monopole complimentary or upgrade to Krug at $US45 a glass. A little try also to get you to go for the wine pairing. The set menu can only be done with the pairing. They then bring an amusee bouche. crabmeat and watermelon. This is often on the Atlantide menu but there the crab meat is on top of the watermelon.
  8. Nearly back to the ship. A bit late so up to the grill for Camembert bites and a Reuben. Coronation day so a different way to claim pool lounges. Now some views from the Moon. The bridge we saw from Skradin. And the narrow channel out of the port. Another neighbour. Finally the Saturday afternoon yacht races.
  9. The last of Skradin. Now back on the bus. We were meant to have some free time here but we were running late so off we went. One of the boats heading for the National Park. Bird nests. There were hundreds.
  10. The boats you see here go up the river to the National Park. Looking down river a large bridge that you could see from the Silver Moon at her dock. Now a walk around the village. Croatian electrical wiring.
  11. The last of the National Park. Lots of stone walls that now don't seem to serve any purpose. Now going to the village of Skraden. Obviously a top weekend outing for locals.
  12. Lirio we certainly didn't see anyone swimming. It is a National Park and fishing isn't allowed but I don't know about swimming. No time if you are on a cruise tour but You certainly can swim further down the river though. Now in a picnic area with several food and drink outlets.
  13. Rachel I also got to wander around with out any one yelling at me even if sometimes I was well away from the rest of the group!
  14. Now what is left of the first power station Near here I bought some dried figs from a sprightly 87 year old woman. A bit grumpy as I only bought the smallest container. But back to the water.
  15. Next was a display of Croatian crafts. Mainly weaving. The last of the irises. From now lots of pictures of water.
  16. The main design of the Croatian power stations was carried out by this man who is now remembered in the USA and around the world. His name Nikola Tesla. The object slightly to the left was an old Croatian version of a mouse trap.
  17. ] ould produce 3 phase power. Germany was first in 1891 Hydroelectric power has been produced here for over a Century. The commonly accepted first power stations for commercial were in the early 1980s including Ottawa and Niagara Falls. The first power station here opened 2 days after the Niagara falls and by 1895 their station could produce 3 phase power. amongst the first in the world but Croatia's acheivements are usually not mentioned in any history of hydroelectric power.
