  1. We are sailing on the Discovery on the Adriatic Explorer Itinerary and this is the first time we have done a TUI cruise as we have previously been with Royal Caribbean around the Caribbean so any advice you can give us on your return would be great as we sail on 12 July this year.

I would be interested to know if they did any package deals for eating in the speciality restaurants.  I saw that Kora La was £19.95 per person and Surf and Turf £24.95 per person (not sure about other speciality restaurants).

  2. We have booked Adriatic Explorer July 2019, staying for a week in Corfu first before sailing. Never been on Marella before - a much smaller ship than we are used to but looking forward to the experience. Booked junior suite 8084 and looking forward to the large balcony at the back of the ship.

One question - is there no roll call for Marella cruises?

    Thanks

  3. We have just booked to go on the Adriatic Explorer on 12 July 2019 on the Discovery with one week prior to that in Corfu staying at the Mayor Verde Grande Resort. This will be our 20th anniversary so we are leaving the children behind!!! We have been on 3 cruises in the past all in the Caribbean and on Royal Caribbean so this will be a bit of a change for us but we are super excited. Looking forward to Kotor, Montenegro and Dubrovnik. Any tips or suggestions gratefully appreciated!!

  4. Thank you for all of your info. We are planning our first Marella cruise ever next summer for our 20th anniversary having only previously cruised with Royal Caribbean in the Caribbean so not sure what to expect. Planning on the Adriatic Explorer.

Do you remember what the additional cost was for the premium upgrade package as although I mostly drink wine I do like a wee cocktail from time to time and my husband likes spirits.

    Thanks in adavance.

No replies and just back so if anyone is interested I will try to answer my own questions,

    1) Costs seem to be in the region of £17/£20 p head however a 3 restaurant package is available at a fair discount. We found the company and ambiance of the Main Dining Room (Orion) and the food quality so good we did not use the speciality restaurants at all!

    2) We did not upgrade to the higher AI deal and found the wines perfectly palatable. We did not try the rose and found the white better than the red but that is only a matter of taste. The house wine did change after a few days so the quality might vary but we found all that were presented to us ok. The prosecco as part of the package was also rather good.

    3) It was clear which drinks were part of the deal and which had a supplement. If you paid a supplement you did in fact have to sign for it. We signed for nothing staying within the deal so had a zero bill (bar wise) at the end of the cruise.

    4) All of the bars provided a decent Latte, Cappuchino etc. as part of the AI so much so that we did not feel the need to frequent the premium Coffee Port venue.

    5) The one formal night was a mixture of Dinner Suits/Nice Dresses and Lounge Suits/ Still Nice Dresses and a few less formal but nothing ridiculously under dressed. We would recommend dressing up if the party wants to.

Finally we really really enjoyed Dream in all respects and will return. Our experience bore no relation to some of the doom mongers recent posts.

  5. Never been on a Thomson or Marella ship (always Royal Caribbean and always in the Caribbean) but planning on an Eastern Med cruise to Adriatic Explorer on the Marella Discovery with my husband for our 20th anniversary with a one week stay in Corfu. I know they have an all inclusive package but I was wondering if anyone knew what the extra cost was for the Premium package for one week. Also any idea on the additional cost of speciality restaurants on this ship? Thanks in advance.

  6. I have two cruises booked, one for November and one for December. Both have MTD but I have not been able to select times using online booking. Both say that I should wait until getting onboard.

I called RCCL and they had no explanation, nor could they make the reservations.

    Anyone know what's going on?

We had a terrible time trying to book on line. After several attempts I eventually called up and told them the problem that I was having and the person then took my details about timings for each night. It took about 25 minutes to do this. When I looked online later in the week none of my bookings seemed to be there but there was a statement at the top which said that some bookings might not appear so I thought nothing of it. We happened to call Royal Caribbean about something else so I thought I would check that our MTD bookings were ok. None of them had been made! And when I tried to book the same times which I had previously wanted most of them were not available which was really disappointing because we had planned our day and other activities at night around our meals. Plus the fact that the time that I wanted on my dad's 66th birthday on 16 October was not available also upset us because we had wanted to have a drink on the balcony first. Emailed about this and initially they said that nothing could be done but eventually we managed to get all of the times which we originally wanted. However, I will wait until we are actually on board to see if this is actually true. Don't know who works on their website but you would think that a company as big as RCCL would have a much better website. :(

  7. We are sailing on the Allure to the Eastern Caribbean and will be in St Thomas on 15 October 2014. We don't really want to do any water based activities as we already have something organised when we are in St Maarten so would just like a really good organised tour of the island. Firstly, is it worth it - is there enough to see? And secondly, can you recommend a tour? All comments greatly appreciated.

  8. We hit the Champagne & Martini Bar for a Bombay Sapphire martini and Cosmopolitan. I’ve been a big fan of the Champagne bars from the first one I went to on the Monarch of the Seas back when she was the biggest thing afloat (she has not been decommissioned, but instead sent down to the minors with Pullmantur). Sadly, the one on Allure is slotted to be refit as an R Bar. Sigh.

What is a R Bar and do you know when this is happening because we are sailing in October and I really enjoyed the champagne bar on the freedom last time we were on her?
