The passengers will need to hurry or ask for help in Chicago. You need to leave the main terminal and take a train to the international Terminal and go through security again. This can be very time consuming. They should ask the flight attendant on their first flight for help.

I don't know if American leaves from one of the main terminals, if they don't and you have to transfer to the International Terminal, which involves a train ride and going through security again. You will need a lot more time. It can take that long just to get to the terminal from the others. I would insist on more time on the ground in Chicago.

When you are each using your own credit card to pre book items, you will need to call and someone will take care of the billing from each person, once you are on board and have your own accounts it won't be a problem.
