  1. We received two cancellations for Volendam today, one for the 74 day South America/Antartica in January 2021 and the other for Hawaii, Tahiti, Marquesa Islands for February 2022 on the Volendam.  The February 2022 voyage was changed to the Zuiderdam.Sounds like Volendam is being sold.

What was your first cruise ship? What cruise line, the year and the itinerary? (if you remember;) ) Did it get you hooked?

Ours was Royal Caribbean Cruise Line's m/s Viking Serenade, a converted car ferry, back in NOV 1991, a 3-day L.A. - Catalina Island - Esenada, Mexico - L.A. cruise. Never forget our first impressions - we were hooked from that day on!

Our first cruise was on America Hawaii Cruise Lines on the Constitution in July of 1990 to the Hawaiian Islands. We thought it was great, but others thought it was not as glamorous as others. For us it was perfect for our first cruise as we wait for our 42 next year.

  3. We have had several 27+ day cruises and one of our favorites was Oceania’s cruise from Cape Town traveling up the east coast of South Africa, Tanzania, Kenya, Madagascar, Mozambique, Seychelles, Sri Lanka, Malaysi! Thailand and departing in Singapore. It was fabulous, especially the safaris.

  4. We did this cruise in the reverse direction. It was wonderful. We took the land excursion from Azamara to the Taj and it met our every expectation. You will see so many awesome sights on this cruise...to crossing the street to get to the railway...an amazing feat. Loved going to the spice market and the market of wares for sale that are or have been used in Bollywood movie sets...so many unexpected views. Being on a first class section (which to our standards wasn’t first class) of the train during rush hour with people hanging on outside the train. Everything about this trip was wonderful to seeing cultures so different than ours:halo: washing clothes in the river to delivering lunches to businesses and not getting the order wrong.

  5. We have cruised Azamara throughout Asia, Antarctica, Norway, Dubai to Singapore-and have never encountered seas to cause sea sickness. Both Azamara’s ships were steady and handled the seas very well. They have wonderful captains who care about their passengers. We have traveled on Cunard’s Queen Elizabeth and this large ship encountered rough seas and tipped sideways. So big ships are not necessarily better.

  6. Hello everyone, my wife and I are booking the Nov. 20, 2018 sailing to Cuba. This will be our first cruise on Azamara, our preferred line is Celebrity. What are the demographics of a cruise like this sailing from Miami? I know on Celebrity you have all age groups from kids to seniors, but 40's - 60's seem to be the most common. FWIW we are 44/45 years old, will we be out of place?

For the evening attire, are khaki type pants and a polo acceptable, or would dress slacks and a button-down be more appropriate?

I'm looking forward to trying a new line, and a small(er) luxury ship. I love Celebrity but think this will be a great experience. Oh, and one more question: how is the motion onboard compared to a large ship like the Celebrity Equinox where you fell almost no movement whatsoever?

We have traveled on both Journey and Quest and the age can be pretty much the same as you experienced on Celebrity (40-60+). It’s not often to have children on the ship; but if you do, we have found them to be very polite and well behaved.

One of the best things I find on Azamara is the dress code is very casual. Wear what you feel suits you...it is your vacation after all and that is what Azamara is all about. Khaki pants and polo shirts are great outfits for Azamara.

We have done about 6 Azamara Cruises with no issues on motion sickness and one of them was to Antarctica and another up to Norway.

    Hope this helps.

  7. We traveled on QE 2 from Southampton to Capetown to Sydney (30 days) in 2016. My husband did not think the food on Cunard was as good as Azamara. If you eat in the dining room, a jacket and tie is pretty much expected for all nights. I liked afternoon tea on Azamara much more than Cunard. Cunard is more formal. They are also very much into ballroom dancing. The ship is much too formal for us on what we call a vacation.
