  1. I know that upon boarding Regent does a Covid test on all passengers. Any passenger that tests positive will be denied boarding. I understand that and agree with the policy. My question is if a passenger should test positive and be denied boarding when and how would their luggage (which I assumed has already been checked in at curbside) be returned. In our case a friend will be taking us to the port a little over 100 miles away and picking us up at the end of the cruise.

I’ve been thinking about whether we should have come on this cruise…

A week out I was on the fence, but we decided to proceed. With the info I I had at that time I would make the same call.  At this point I would probably reschedule to at least the spring, given a choice.

Obviously there is us getting COVID, and needing to quarantine. While Regent has been reasonable and helpful, it still isn’t much of a vacation. Assuming the odds of that are still fairly low, I look at things like all the entertainment being cancelled on the Splendor’s prior voyage, and now Explorer. And then there are the missed ports. Masks aren’t a huge deal for us, but it is one other thing that detracts.

On the positive side, none of the ships are sailing full, and that part is wonderful and makes it feel almost like a private sailing.

    Obviously a very individual decision…

I haven't heard that entertainment had been canceled on the Splendor. Do you know what cruise that was?

The Compass Rose is an excellent restaurant (far superior to other cruise lines main dining rooms in our opinion). Also each night they do have an entree from one of the specialty restaurants on their menu.

Measures due to covid- no self serve at buffets, masks to be worn at all times except in cabin, in gym , and when eating or drinking. Masks on excursions but we can walk around town on our own. There is a hand washing station at La Veranda but just liquid disinfectant at other venues. No block party and no share tables, although groups may sit together. Internet is slow- ok for browsing but they have an internet package for $10/ day that allows streaming ( can’t stream movies or podcasts with std free internet. Thanksgiving dinner was done very nicely. See photos. Just under 600 people on board, 490 last segment. Lots of itinerary changes at the last minute so be flexible.

Are you able to sit at the bars? I know at one time you were not allowed. I have heard from a passenger on the Explorer and the can sit at the bars.

Captain Diego Michelozzi is leaving in Nice.  His current Contract is complete.  Captain Serena is replacing him.  I suspect she might be on board since crew are required to quarantine before assuming their duties.  Passports are being distributed to all passengers, irregardless of whether they are disembarking in Barcelona or Miami.

So happy to have Captain Serena on board!!! 💗💞💕😻😻
    K &J

That is good news for us as we are booked in February and hoped to see Captain Serena again. We were on the maiden voyage from Barcelona to Miami (right before everything shut down) and she was captain at that time. Do you know how long she will be on the ship??

Some stats from the Seven Seas Society cocktail party, which I know you will be waiting for 🤣

    410 on board (we think)

    165 repeat guests

    76 silver

    35 gold

    18 platinum

    8 titanium

Another lovely evening with cocktails in the Meridian Lounge (we are working our way through the long list!) and then dinner in Chartreuse followed by David Nevin's one man show which was excellent.

Our main observation is that a seven day cruise is way too short!!  (but then we all knew that, didn't we?)

I have heard somewhere that they are not allowing people to sit at the bar on the bar stools. Is this correct?

Everyone is commenting that they don't like masks.

Is that really necessary? 😂  Surely that's implied? Otherwise, pre-pandemic, you'd have seen everyone wearing masks all the time. Yet nobody I know was wearing masks regularly before the pandemic was a thing haha.

Nobody likes wearing masks (although I'm aware exceptions exist). Wearing a mask on a cruise sounds like a hassle to me - wearing a mask on an excursion bus doesn't sound fun to me. But without being morbid, you have to weigh up how much time you have to fully enjoy cruising versus waiting for mask requirements to be removed. Our bodies are decaying over time and there may come a point where you're not able to cruise to the same extent you are today.

For example, there are a fair few 70-somethings and a few 80-somethings on here. Without being overly cruel, is it really worth waiting a year or more just to not wear a mask? I guess my rambling point is that the older you are, the less likely I'd recommend putting off going on cruises.

    My sentiments exactly.

I am getting my Regent Consultant to book this cruise before it's too late.

I just want to cross the Atlantic by sea, since I'll fly across to get to the port.

I've flown across the Pacific to Hawaii, but yet to sail back or towards.

We were on the maiden voyage on the Splendor from Barcelona to Miami and loved every minute of it! We are booked again in February and in the same suite!

  9. We have celebrated birthdays and our anniversary several times. Let them know (maybe through your TA) the day you want to celebrate. We usually ask for a bottle of champagne on ice to be deliverd to our cabin while we are at dinner. Most times we have picked a night that we had reservations for a specialty restaurant. (Also let the restaurant know) We hwve had some very nice surprises for our celebration how ever one time they completely forgot. They did it all over again on another night.

Each cruise line has their own choice for box filler. Our last service dog liked grass. We are trying to get our new one used to different fillers. Most of the time the cruise line will try to get what you prefer.

As far as the box on the balcony, we are usually begging to have it placed there.

    Cindy

Yes in the past we have been asked what we would like sod, mulch Astro turf etc. We were originally told that they would provide a "litter " type of filler. We had a bad experience years ago with a different dog and "litter". It appears that we can request Astro turf or sod and are waiting for a confirmation. I don't mind placing a deposit on the cruise however if we cancel there would be a $300 penalty. I really want some assurance before I'm at risk for even the $300.

  11. I see your buddy is a Black Lab so is Daisie. So your box was big enough for the dog and there was also plenty of room on your balcony? We were on a cruise many years ago and they had two fairly small steel pans attached to each other. I would describe them as two large jelly roll pans. They were filled with pellets which may be dog litter?? The pans with the pellets were slippery and the first time Vicki got inthem she slipped and fell. She did not want to go back.

  12. WOW I didnt realize this subject has been around so long.

My wife and I are  planning a cruise with our son and his new guide dog on Regent Splendor. My wife and I sailed on the Splendor on its Maiden Voyage and loved it and wanted to share the "Splendor" experience with our son. However I heard from our TA that Regent supplies a "litter box" with dog litter?? and a small piece of carpet for the dogs feet. The "litter box" would be kept on our balcony. We don't find this too desirable.

We have been on approximately eight cruises on various cruise lines with his prior guide dogs and have never had this type of relief area. In the past the cruise lines would set up a relief area on an obsolete deck (such as a rope deck) where passangers are not allowed. One time Holland America set up a relief area in a remote area of a public deck. They went all out. There were two potted palms and sod. They had those red velvet ropes with pictures of fire hydrents and a sign saying "Service Animal" relief area. Mary Jo felt like royalty. Typically the cruise line would ask what type of relief area we would like sod, Astro Turff, mulch etc.

I would like to hear if other guide dog users have sailed on Regent and their experiences. Also has any one used litter boxes on their balconies, how their dogs fared with a litter box, how cean up and sanitation was handled.

Cruise-a-holic - if you haven't seen this thread (link below), please have a look over there for all the info you will ever need about taking a guide dog/service dog on a cruise.   I don't know if anyone on there has cruised specifically with Regent but they are a very friendly bunch and will help you if they can.  It is a long thread, started by the much-missed, recently passed "Wizard of Roz", and her then service dog Brenda, back in 2007, so no-one will be offended if you ask questions to save scrolling through it all.  Many of the posters have travelled widely with their service dogs.

Thank you appreciate that. We have had a guide dog on several different cruise lines but hope to talk to others regarding their experiences with guide dogs on Regent.

According to the Regent Terms and Conditions the presence of dogs onboard is strictly limited to guide dogs or “service animals”. You would need to advise Regent of the dog’s presence at the time of booking, otherwise they reserve the right to withhold embarkation to you and the dog. You will also be liable for any damage caused by the dog, including a cleaning charge. I understand from a previous thread that they provide a litter tray for in-cabin use. Needless to say that the dog has to remain in the cabin unless escorting the guest. These rules only apply if the cruise embarks or disembarks from a US or UK port, otherwise you cannot bring the dog on board at all. Dogs are unlikely to be accepted in many countries for excursions but I don’t know the precise rules. You also have to provide for all the dog’s food and medication

Thank you for you input. We are pretty familiar with federal laws regarding service animals ( in our case it is a guide dog for our blind son) we have been on multiple cruises on different cruise lines with his dogs. But he has never sailed with us on Regent. We are a little concerned with information sent to our TA regarding a  relief area. My wife and I have been on Regent multiple times and wanted to take our son. So I was hoping to get input from past Regent passengers that have had service dogs along.

So I have been pondering over this. The way I see things is if I have a cruise booked in May of 2021 and there is not a vaccine available before May we will not be cruising but if the cruise is a go we can cancel 15 days prior to the sail date and receive a FFC or apply the funds to a cruise that we have booked for Dec of 2021. There are no restrictions on the reassurance program regarding canceling. So I am thinking that my final payment for the May cruise is at the end of Dec. I will make the final payment and hope we will get a vaccine and if not just take a FCC. I am not going to take out any Travel Insurance unless I am sure we will be cruising . Are others doing this. Hope I am making sense. If I take out the travel insurance which is going to be a large amount and I cancel and take the FCC I will loose that money and unless I am cruising I won't need it.

I'm pondering the same thing. We are booked in February. Feel the same way you do about the vaccine. My question is I don't need the cancellation insurance but would like to have  medical/evacuation insurance. I know that trip cancellation along with medical has to be purchased at the time of full payment. I'm wondering if I want only medical can that be purchased at a closer time to sail date?

Not sure as we use a car service.  However I think you can drop off your bags at the ship, then go park your car and return to the ship.  I've seen others do this.  On your return one of you can wait with the luggage while the other goes and gets the car.

Yes that is exactly how you it.

We are sailing on Regent SSMariner Sydney to Singapore 01March2020. When the ship docks in Brisbane I will meet my Sister and husband who live there. I would love to show them what onboard is like. Is it possible to arrange visitor passes, and who should I approach onboard to arrange this?

We were able to have a guest visit us on the Explorer 2 years ago. Contact the cruise line. They were very nice and had no problem. Our friend was issued a "visitor" I'd. We took him to lunch in the French Restaurant and paid a minimal charge. By the way it was at a tendered port.

Just got this email from Regent:

    "Dear Valued Guest,

We look forward to welcoming you aboard your 14-night Splendor At Sea sailing on February 6, 2020 – the inaugural voyage of Seven Seas Splendor.

We are adjusting Seven Seas Splendor’s Atlantic Crossing itinerary to call on San Juan, Puerto Rico in place of a call to Bermuda. Seven Seas Splendor will visit the United States for the first time and calling on San Juan will facilitate a smoother disembarkation process for all guests on February 20 in Miami.

With this change, we are excited to announce that you will also enjoy additional entertainment that will join us from San Juan to Miami."

    ** ** ** **

We will be in San Juan 2/17 from 6am to Midnight.  Lost the overnight in Bermuda, thus, another sea day on the itinerary.

IMO I think they're trying to get everyone off ASAP on 2/20 so they can get their inspections done and prepare for the christening.

    My thoughts exactly!
