  1. We made the mistake of booking with a "big box" travel agency that is nearly impossible to get on the phone - and once we do get them, they can't answer with confidence anything but the most basic questions.  Hoping someone can offer insight here?
We sail on 4/9 and have a cabin for 4.  We wanted to change this to 2 cabins with 2 people each, but we were told we couldn't do that without exorbitant change fees (we knew the fare itself would go up, but we didn't realize they'd charge so much to change, since we'd be paying them more money overall).
I keep reading about people doing upgrades on the day of boarding.  Has anyone "added a cabin" on the day of boarding?  It would be the same guests (so all would have been checked-in/cleared properly), but we'd just be adding an additional cabin to have two people in each, instead of everyone in single cabin.

  2. Our family is taking a 21 day Mediterranean cruise this summer, and we can't decide how to think about cabins (we'll need two - parents + three teens).  On a long cruise like this, we'd normally prioritize having great cabins with great balconies, since there'd be so much time spent on the ship.  However, we're doing this cruise to see the ports, and most port days look pretty long.  It sort of feels like the cabin will be for crashing at night more than anything else.  There are only 5 or so "sea days" the whole cruise.

Who has done a longer Med cruise like this (bonus if with your older kids!)?  Did you find that cabin selection was less important on this itinerary? Any thoughts appreciated.  We're making ourselves crazy making arguments several different directions!

  3. Here's one that I bet hasn't been asked before! 😀  I suspect we'll need to ask Princess, but I figured there's a chance that someone has already encountered this issue?

We are taking a 21 day Med cruise next summer, and my competitive fencer son basically wants to fence his way across Europe (it's some of the best fencing in the world, and there are fencing clubs in many of the port cities we will visit).  He's a left-hander and uses a less popular type of grip, making borrowing equipment a bit harder than it might normally be.

We have looked at the "prohibited items" list, and fencing equipment is not specifically addressed, nor do his "weapons" fall neatly into one of the categories listed.  (It's a fun list to read, though, just to imagine the situations that must have led to some of the bullet points on the list! 🤣)

We are assuming he will NOT be allowed to bring his equipment, but there is an exception for diving equipment (knives, specifically); they can be checked in/out for excursions.  We're wondering if the same might be possible for his fencing gear?

Has anyone ever heard of this situation (or a similar one)?  If so, do you remember who you contacted at Princess to discuss it?  He'd really prefer to use his own equipment if at all possible.

  4. My family was going to book a 21 day Med cruise for next summer.  It's on the Regal Princess, and the ship basically goes in a circle most of the summer, with cruisers choosing to book for 7, 14 or 21 days.  Once you've been on the ship for 21 days, you'd have done the whole loop of ports.

Because of a work "opportunity," my husband will now join us after the first week, meaning he'll essentially do the 14 day version of the cruise while the rest of us will do the 21 day version (we'll get on in Barcelona, and he'll join us and board in Rome).

Has anyone done something like this before?  Ideally, we'd like to add him as a 3rd guest in one of the staterooms starting when the "14 day" version of the cruise begins.  I assume we could also book him a stateroom on the 14 day version (easiest answer, but most expensive) or book him for the 21 day itinerary but have him join on day 7 (not sure if this is allowed?).

Any help/thoughts/other ideas would be great!
