  1. October we'll be taking yet another cruise to Bermuda. At this point I have no desire to cruise anywhere else!

Bermudians are lovely, polite people. Nobody chased me down to braid my hair...... It's clean and safe.

    Alaska was too cold.

    Hated, hated, hated Bahamas.

  2. I'm a just in case packer as far as extra items but I seriously need to cut back on the clothes I bring. Last year I brought a different outfit for everyday both daytime and evening. I ended up wearing the same 2 pair of skorts almost every day and only about 4 of the shirts. I don't need to wear a different dress to dinner every night either. I can probably cut the amount of clothing I bring in half. I did have a whole extra bag just for my shoes. That one will be hard to cut down on.

  3. We've been on two cruises to Bermuda in October. Year before last we were on one of the ships out of Baltimore during hurricane Sandy. The captain tried to outrun it but it was too rough so he came back and parked us in the Chesapeake Bay. We still had an awesome time, they gave us onboard credits for our trouble and we were not in harms way. We didn't make it to Bermuda that time but we had 7 nights in a "luxury all inclusive hotel". I can't complain and have a fun story to tell.

We made it to Bermuda last October and had a ball with no bad weather. Going again this October too. I think if you want to get to Bermuda you just have to take the chance that bad weather will happen.

It's beautiful there and worth the slim chance of a hurricane to us.

  4. We have only cruised Norwegian, RCCL and Carnival so our experience is limited. That said, I'd rate them in exactly that order.

I'd like to try Celebrity sometime too.

Our experience with Carnival was unpleasant. The cruise was to the Bahamas out of Baltimore. However, this was in the summer so there were way too many kids on board. It was the Pride which has a party reputation and we are not partiers. Our room steward was pleasant and did a good job and we absolutely loved our wait staff in the MDR and the food was good. The "dress code" was extremely lax in the buffet area and I saw way more skin than I ever need to see again all over the ship. It was also hard to find a clean table in the buffet area. There just weren't enough staff to keep up with the mess. We came off that cruise with the mantra of "Just because you can get it on, doesn't mean it fits".

Norwegian was 11 years ago and I understand it has changed but our experience was amazing. We went to Alaska out of Seattle and enjoyed everything about this cruise.

Our last 2 cruises were RCCL and one was even during hurricane Sandy, but we still had a really good time. Until DH retires we sail out of NJ and Baltimore as they're within driving distance. RCCL's passengers are a little more conservative behavior wise. Everyone's having a good time, but not stumbling drunk and loud (for the most part).

  5. Room service for sure. It was my fourth cruise before I tried it. DH likes to get up early, walk the decks and sit down and socialize for breakfast. Me? Not so much....

I like to take my time waking up and drink my coffee on the balcony while getting ready for the day. By the time he comes back, I'm ready to go, awake and in a good mood. Wish I'd figured that one out sooner. I'm not fit for company first thing in the morning!

  6. I have to agree with the support garments. I went into Victorias Secret and paid fifty bucks for a new bra, but the "girls" stay right up where they used to be. Even strapless. Also, you can't beat spanx. Those things are amazing for smoothing everything out. Even Walmart carries cheaper versions of these things.

  7. As a "fluffy" woman I can recommend Dress Barn if you have one. They have a beautiful selection in plus sizes, especially this time of year (holiday time).

I've gone from a size 24 in January to a 16/18 now. I'm having a ball shopping now that I have more of a selection. I got a dress from Amazon in a fifties "pinup" style. I absolutely love it. It's very flattering for a fuller figure. The seller is Aprils Ltd.

I also had my daughters old prom dress altered and hemmed to cocktail length. Other than that just a basic black skirt and pallazzo pants with different fancy tops.

I do understand not liking your arms exposed though. My last cruise I was quite a bit larger and did wear sleeveless dresses. I just wore lightweight jackets and sheer tops to hide my arms. They're still not exactly slim and I have some loose skin but I'm going sleeveless anyway.

Good luck in your dress quest and have a ball on your cruise!
